In the space provided below, describe the surface meaning of "The Road Not Taken" in your own words.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler. Long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

--Robert Frost, 1916

Answers

Answer:

The surface meaning of "The Road Not Taken" starts with a person facing a choice to select one way. He chooses and makes a difference at the end and wishes to return to the point where he chose to check out where the other path led.

Explanation:

Robert Frost in this poem talks about the path of life. At a juncture, he had to choose between two paths. One path looked like people had travelled on it and the other looked abandoned or not used often so he had described it as grassy and with no leaves trodden black. Here, the two paths stand for two choices in life's path. He chose the road less travelled. This means that he made an unconventional choice which led to a different direction than what most people did. This choice expressed individuality and leadership. By choosing the road that was not taken he made a huge difference. The wood represented life and the divergent paths were the curves thrown in the journey where he had to take an important decision about his life.

Banksy Art Self-Destructs After Selling for $1.4M

By Rowena Salazar

In a paragraph of at least five sentences, answer the question: Was Bansky's action one of vandalism or art? Include at least one specific reference to each excerpt in your response.

Answers

Banksys' plan to sell anything as "art" is pure genius, as Banksy is a firm believer in not placing a price on art. Therefore his act was out of art, not vandalism because he was trying to get his point across the board. Although he didn't make his point clear due to the art selling for even more after self-destructing. Banksy makes street art and putting a price on his art to destroy it was the most modernly artistic thing an artist could do nowadays. Everyone is pricing their art for millions, while Banksy is making his free for the people to appreciate.

Bansky's action one of vandalism or art is :

Banksy firmly believes that art has no price, so Banksy's plan to sell everything as "art" is simply great. Therefore, his act was not an art, not a vandalism. Because he tried to assert his point of view on a wide front. Although he didn't make his point clear because of his post-self-destruction art sale. Banksy is doing street art, and destroying his art at the cost of destroying it was the most modern thing an artist can do these days. Everyone costs millions for their art  while Banksy releases their art to thank people.

Directions: Think back to last March, when you were in 7th grade and the lockdown began. Then came the summer and the fall, when you began 8th grade online. Since that time, reflect on how you feel, what you’ve learned, and what you are looking forward to in the future. Then, write a 1-2 page reflection on those things. Use these questions to guide your writing: - How did you feel when the lockdown began? - How did you feel starting 8th grade virtually? What were your hopes for the year? - What did you learn over the course of virtual school in 8th grade? - What feelings have you had over the course of the school year? - What have been some highs and lows of being in school virtually and of the pandemic? - What are some things you have learned about yourself this past year?

Explanation:

In 2019, if somebody told me that next year the world would be shut down and nobody could get within six feet of each other, I would have brought that person to a mental facility. The coronavirus is the most unimaginable, crazy period of time I (and probably the rest of the world) have ever lived through.

I’ve missed out on many things such as vacations, events, birthday parties, and fun activities. Towards the end of the sixth grade, there were all these fun activities and field trips planned since we were graduating elementary school. Only a week before all those activities were to start, the schools shut down and all we got was a driveby graduation at our school which I did actually enjoy but let's face it, that little event did not make up for the loads of things our grade was so very excited to do. My family was also supposed to go to Martha’s Vineyard with my aunt, cousin, and her fiance which we had started doing every summer, but we had to cancel it. The summer was nice though, as I went downtown a lot with my friends, went on my boat a lot, practiced sports, and swam in my  pool. I think we can all agree that the summer probably would have been better without a global pandemic to worry about.

Although it’s been hard, the coronavirus has had some upsides to it. I’ve been recently focusing on improving myself/health and if the pandemic hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t have as much time daily and throughout the year to make these improvements for myself. For example, I’ve been going to the local CrossFit gym every day after school and I even participated in a nutrition challenge and won! It built up my self confidence a lot and I'm as fit and as healthy as I've ever been thanks to the extra time I've had to better myself. A lot of people have been saying things about the coronavirus making them have depression, anxiety, and social anxiety and I suppose I gained a bit of that (who hasn’t?) but it’s been really nice to get to focus on myself for a whole year and try new things I've always wanted to do but haven’t had time for. The pandemic has changed me, in some ways for the better because I take things less for granted now and really care about my health, state of mind, and wellbeing much more.
