CHAPTER XIV of The Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain At Pisa we climbed up to the top of the strangest structure the world has any knowledge of—the Leaning Tower. As everyone knows, it is in the neighborhood of one hundred and eighty feet high—and I beg to observe that one hundred and eighty feet reach to about the height of four ordinary three-story buildings piled one on top of the other, and is a very considerable altitude for a tower of uniform thickness to aspire to, even when it stands upright—yet this one leans more than thirteen feet out of the perpendicular. It is seven hundred years old, but neither history or tradition say whether it was built as it is, purposely, or whether one of its sides has settled. There is no record that it ever stood straight up. It is built of marble. It is an airy and a beautiful structure, and each of its eight stories is encircled by fluted columns, some of marble and some of granite, with Corinthian capitals that were handsome when they were new. It is a bell tower, and in its top hangs a chime of ancient bells. The winding staircase within is dark, but one always knows which side of the tower he is on because of his naturally gravitating from one side to the other of the staircase with the rise or dip of the tower. Some of the stone steps are foot-worn only on one end; others only on the other end; others only in the middle. To look down into the tower from the top is like looking down into a tilted well. A rope that hangs from the center of the top touches the wall before it reaches the bottom. Standing on the summit, one does not feel altogether comfortable when he looks down from the high side; but to crawl on your breast to the verge on the lower side and try to stretch your neck out far enough to see the base of the tower, makes your flesh creep, and convinces you for a single moment in spite of all your philosophy, that the building is falling. . . . The Duomo, close at hand, is one of the finest cathedrals in Europe. It is eight hundred years old. Its grandeur has outlived the high commercial prosperity and the political importance that made it a necessity, or rather a possibility. Surrounded by poverty, decay and ruin, it conveys to us a more tangible impression of the former greatness of Pisa than books could give us. The Baptistery, which is a few years older than the Leaning Tower, is a stately rotunda, of huge dimensions, and was a costly structure. In it hangs the lamp whose measured swing suggested to Galileo the pendulum. It looked an insignificant thing to have conferred upon the world of science and mechanics such a mighty extension of their dominions as it has. Pondering, in its suggestive presence, I seemed to see a crazy universe of swinging disks, the toiling children of this sedate parent. He appeared to have an intelligent expression about him of knowing that he was not a lamp at all; that he was a Pendulum; a pendulum disguised, for prodigious and inscrutable purposes of his own deep devising . . . This Baptistery is endowed with the most pleasing echo of all the echoes we have read of. The guide sounded two sonorous notes, about half an octave apart; the echo answered with the most enchanting, the most melodious, the richest blending of sweet sounds that one can imagine. It was like a long-drawn chord of a church organ, infinitely softened by distance. I may be extravagant in this matter, but if this be the case my ear is to blame—not my pen. I am describing a memory—and one that will remain long with me. Select all the correct answers. What are two purposes for reading this passage? to learn about history or architecture to learn about traveling to Italy to learn about memoirs to learn about Mark Twain to learn about politics in Italy
The correct answers are B. To learn about traveling to Italy and D. TO learn about Mark Twain
Explanation:
In the excerpt, Mark Twain describes his experiences while visiting Italy; this includes a detailed description of the places he visited such as the Leaning Tower and the Duomo (cathedral), as well as his impression of the places. For example, in "makes your flesh creep, and convinces you for a single moment in spite of all your philosophy" Twain describes his thoughts and emotions when he tried to see the base of the leaning tower.
According to this, the two purposes that fit the content of this text are to learn about traveling to Italy because the text focuses on describing important touristic places in this country; and to learn about Mark Twain because the text is a memoir of Mark Twain, and therefore shows readers the life, emotions, and experiences of this writer.

Answer:
Story on the title "never go anywhere without telling anyone about it".
Explanation:
Never go anywhere without telling anyone about it.Till I remember, it was evening time. I and my few friends were enjoying and wandering, away from our homes by the slope of hillside into that barren land. It was the month of April. Nobody had expected that what we experienced the next- A black mountain of clouds started gathering and in no time, it started raining cats and dogs. We had not expected that to happen, that too, in an instant.
Running as fast as our legs will carry us, we began frantically looking for any safe shelter to keep out of the downpour. But considering we had ventured to the barren side of the hill, it wasn't a complete surprise to not find any sheltering spot. We had to scamper down to the biggest tree with its branches spreading out. Though it wasn't exactly a safe spot, it nevertheless kept us safe to a certain extent. But as it doesn't seem like the rains have any intention of stopping, we decided it's better to get drenched and go home as it is getting dark too. If we decide to stay longer, we would be in even greater trouble.
Feeling cold, drenched, weak, and scared, we walked back, not even able to run for we were all so tired. It took us almost an hour to get back to the village, and everyone was so shocked to see us. When we reached our homes, our parents were so relieved. They had been so worried and were even about to organize a search party to get to us if we hadn't turned up in the next hour. And the matter was serious, for we hadn't told anyone when we went out so they were all thinking we had been to one of our friend's place.
The teaching that we got that day will always remain with us for one specific reason. Our parents had no knowledge we had ventured to the very place where there had been so many deaths in the past year. We had also known and heard of the murders but we didn't know it was in that very same barren lands. The land had been a curse for so long that no one even dared to venture out. Added to that, we didn't inform anyone when we went out. So, it was a huge wake-up call for us children to always inform our parents whenever we had to go anywhere.
From that day onwards, we learned a valuable lesson to not venture so far out, away from the village, and also to always let others know where we are going or if we are going out. It is always better to let others know about our whereabouts than regretting it later after things get worse.

Answer: C is most likely the best answer.
B is plausible.
Explanation: The implication that the senator hates children because she wants to cut funding is a way to discredit her.
Without context, it is possible that the "straw man" could also apply. There may be a reason for the senator's intent to cut funding-- not that she hates children. Perhaps inefficiency in the way funding has been managed, or a reduced need for funding because some of the original goals of the funding have been accomplished. The actual reasons for the senator's position are not disclosed in the statement given.
