What negative and positive actions did the Puritans take?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Dramatic irony is when the _______________ (or the reader) seems to know more about an event, a situation or conversation than the characters. It creates tremendous ______________ with the text.

Answers

Answer: Audience; Suspense

Explanation: Readers are also considered the audience of a story, because they're the ones witnessing/reading the story and what's transpiring. Dramatic Irony is suspenseful because we know what happened or what's going to happen and it builds tension when waiting for what's going to happen to happen or waiting for the narrator to realize what we already know.

The answer is audience for the first one and suspense for the second one.

Casey at the Bat: A Ballad of the Republic Sung in the Year 1888 by Ernest Lawrence Thayer Poetry, 1888

Introduction

Ernest Thayer (1863–1940) was an American poet who published the poem “Casey at the Bat” in The San Francisco Examiner under the pseudonym “Phin.” The poem’s anonymity and association with DeWolf Hopper, who recited it 10,000 times on the vaudeville stage, led to many false claims about its authorship, and only reluctantly did Thayer eventually step forward to claim the poem as his own. By then, it had become firmly imprinted on the American imagination as the quintessential baseball poem, full of hope, drama, bravado, defeat, and humor. Though some readers may be unfamiliar with at bats and innings, everyone can relate to the final sentiment: “there is no joy in Mudville—mighty Casey has struck out.”

Using context clues, what is the definition of quintessential?

a Not important
b The most important
c Unrelated to a certain subject
d Representing the perfect example of something

Answers

As the poem was recited 10,000 times, the definition of quintessential is D

Superhero 101: A Dog's Day

Trace was still thinking about the conversation with his grandmother when he stopped so abruptly that Liam literally collided with him. “Hey, what gives?” Liam asked. “You were this close to wearing my ice cream in your hair. Why’d you stop?”

Tia and Blade had continued walking, but now they were headed back toward their friends to find out why they had stopped. Blade immediately noticed Trace’s countenance and followed his gaze. She was the most intuitive and observant of the group. Suddenly, she gasped.

“What is wrong with you two?” Liam, who was more interested in saving his ice cream than saving the world, asked before they had a chance to explain.

Trace spoke in hushed tones, “Look, over there. It’s Casper. He’s supposed to be in prison. What is he doing at the pet store?”

Liam and Tia looked toward the pet store as the four friends dodged into an alleyway, trying not to look too conspicuous. Casper was obviously in disguise himself with his dyed brown hair and beard. The last thing the group needed was for Casper to realize that he had been spotted by his nemesis. The last time he and Trace had met, Trace and his friends had thwarted Casper's plot to create a deadly toxin designed to help him take over the world. That was three months ago, and now it looked like he had somehow escaped from prison and was up to something equally menacing and ominous.

Casper was leaving the pet store and getting into a car, so the friends hurried to their car. They followed him to an abandoned pet-food manufacturing plant at the edge of town. Once Casper ducked inside, the four friends did the same but were soon confronted by an angry pack of dogs. Trace motioned for his friends to come close to him as he created a shield around them. He remembered the time when Tia had used her superpower to make the group invisible. They had been running from Casper and his henchmen. “Tia, make us invisible!” Trace shouted.

However, the friends’ scent wasn’t invisible, and the dogs could not be deterred. The dogs followed the friends as they made their way to where Casper appeared to be manufacturing something that smelled awful.
Read the sentence from "Superhero 101: A Dog's Day."

"What is wrong with you two?" Liam, who was more interested in saving his ice cream than saving the world, asked before they had a chance to explain.

How does this sentence characterize Liam?

It shows that Liam's superpowers have not kicked in yet.

It shows that Liam is the funny, quirky one of the group.

It shows that Liam is not a superhero but is just friends with the superheroes.

It shows that Liam is not as sensitive as the others in the group.

Answers

Answer: The answer is "It shows that Liam is not as sensitive as the others in the group."

Explanation:

The person below me or above me is wrong. On the test it is marked wrong

The sentence that characterizes Liam:

D). It shows that Liam is not as sensitive as the others in the group.

"Superhero 101: A Dog's Day"

The last sentence most successfully conveys the traits possessed by Liam because he lacks thoughtfulness and consciousness.

The details demonstrate that the other members belonging to his group had a sense of sensitivity while Liam lacked that level of sympathy and tactfulness.

Thus, option D is the correct answer.

Hi, this is a story about time travelling ive started, feel free to edit.

Explanation:

Tick. Tick. Tick.

The breath catches in my throat. Oh no.

The sound of ticking fills my eardrums. It sounds like a clock, whirring away in my brain. I can almost imagine it, gold in colour, its cogs different shapes and each one spinning at a unique speed. Each tick sends a jolt of panic down my spine.

No, no it's not real. It's fine. I'm just imagining it. It's not real.

"Naomi, can you hear that?"

"Hear what?" I say, holding my breath. I forgot she was there.

"That ticking." No. Oh no.

"What ticking?"

"That ticking noise, it's getting louder." Lara's staring at me. She always does that. She stares at your eyes, into your soul, and tries to work out how you really feel. I blink and look away making the swing creak slightly.

Before I could answer, a distant rumble draws our attention into the sky.

"What on earth-" Her voice trails away.

A large black mass appears, swirling in a violent greeting.

"What's happening?" I say though I know exactly what's going on. It's happening. It's happening again. No, not again.

The mass is expanding, growing a thousand shades darker in black every second.

"The ticking's coming from that cloud-" Lara murmurs, her hands shaking.

It's not a cloud. Doesn't she know anything?

I look down at my legs. Something's odd. Not the way they look, though the black tights and school shoes aren't exactly flattering. I'm slowly losing the feeling in both of them. I reach out and touch my right calf-and the deja vu suddenly hits me-it’s happening. It's happening again. I can’t move- oh no- it's happening-

"We better go home."

"We can't, Lara."

"What?"

"We can't."

She tosses her hair and glares at me. "Well, why not?"

I don't answer. Instead, I watch her struggle to get off the swing.

"I can't move! Help me, Naomi! I can't feel my legs-" She shrieks.

"I told you."

"Naomi, what's going on?"

I look up. The sky is black now.

"Are you ready?" I say, though my voice wobbles.

"For what? What are you-"

There's a far-off sound of a clock bell ringing. Then the darkness swallows us up and swoops us away.

(not finished!)

I hope this helped :)

The book is new moon. The event is when Edward decides to leave Bella so that she can live a normal life. When Edward leaves Bella gets depressed, she says that she has a gaping hole in her chest and that it makes her feel like she is crumbling into pieces. She lives in her head, trying to distract herself as much as possible so she has no time to think about her lost love. She has lost her will to live and she doesn’t believe that she even deserved the love that Edward once gave her.I believe the author includes this because for most people it seems that they are the only ones who seem to have no will to live. It touches on the topic and shows how in the end it got better but it took a long time.

Can someone tell me a moral of Have respect for yourself and others? (150-200) words Thank you.

Answers

To have respect for yourself and others is perhaps one of the easiest or hardest things someone can do. When you do something horrible or awful you can feel hatred and contempt for yourself. What we need to do is forgive ourselves and make sure to not go down a dark path of self inflicted pain and dislike. To have respect for others is something we must all do. Whether or not you agree or disagree with someone, you mustn’t discredit them because of those views. If we open our minds to seeing what others feel and respect those opinions, then we can better ourselves as individuals. Morally speaking, not having respect for anyone is wrong. Everybody deserves it and your future conversations and relationships with those people determines how much respect you will continue to give them.
There was once a poor farmer who lived a long time ago. He had 2 sons. The oldest son helped on the fields while the youngest sat and did nothing. The youngest son always laughed at the oldest for doing trying so hard.
One day, the farmer sent both of his sons to deliver a package. The two sons started walking towards the forest. Since the oldest son was carrying the package, he started to fall behind. After a few minutes, the youngest son came across a old woman on the ground. She was covered in mud and dirt. "Can you please help me? I am lost and I cannot find my way home" She explained.
"Haha!" Why would I ever help you!" said the youngest son laughing.
He went continued walking in the forest.
A few minutes later, the oldest son came across the old woman
The woman said again "Can you please help me?! I am lost and I cannot find my way home"
The oldest son looked around and helped the woman up. He spent over an hour helping the woman find her way home. After they finally arrived, the oldest son realized the woman lived in a huge castle.
"Thank you so much for helping me!" Said the old woman.
"She then went inside and brought the oldest son a handful of gold and priceless jewels"
"You were the only person who actually helped me" explained the old woman.
"Thank you for that"

I know this because when he catches a pig and tries to kill it, the author of the novel uses words that describe being forced to do it for food "he couldn't because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into living flesh." He also struggles to kill a living creature because he's never done anything like it before. Jack still feels bad for the pig and does not want to kill it, when he uses these words in the book "living flesh." Jack started to develop a crazed and aggressive side. In the book when Jack's hunting job begins to consume his mind, he has a "compulsion to track down and kill something that was swallowing him up."(page 51) The word 'compulsion' shows that Jack has no control over his mind and is compulsive; it is almost controlling him. It's possible that Jack became fixated because he felt like a failure and less himself for failing to kill the pig, and now he wants to prove he's not useless or weak by killing one. This drives Jack crazy because it's difficult to see someone killing something or be so joyful and liking it unless they were insane. Jack does manage to kill the pig, but it only makes him angrier and more controlling in the book. After killing the pig, he leads a group of boys in a dance around the pigs head, saying "Kill the pig, cut her throat, spill the blood."(69) When Jack starts forming a group on the island, his behavior changes once more. When the boys are debating who will go up the mountain to find the beast, Jack says he will and shouts at Ralph, "Are you coming?" Him saying this is making Ralph look like the smaller person and is trying to start drama in the group. Ralph ends up too afraid to go up the mountain, and Jack will be able to show the boys why he should be their brave new leader. This is a very smart move by Jack because we see Jack attempt to take control of the group from Ralph.Jack eventually gets what he wants and rises to the top of the ladder where he is the new leader. He then starts to manipulate and brainwash everyone in the group causing the death of Piggy then the hunting of Ralph Then eventually they get rescued by a British Soldier. The Author of the novel is William Golding he wrote this novel because he was a teacher and had taught younger boys so he knows a lot how they tend to act immature with some background knowledge of the war he wrote the novel lord of the files which shows all sort of emotions and how they change people in this novel Jack was a normal kid then he got stuck on the island and started having emotions which slowly changed the way he acted and then fully took him over, this book I would give a 9/10 because its a lot to commit too. 3.
