Think about yourself and elaborate on how you see the formula: Cultural Capital + Social Capital = Economic Capital making an impact in your future life (as a university student or as a professional). Make sure you make references & connections to the different elements that make up each factor of the formula. Consider the fact that you will have to look back to your previous years, as well as your present, to weigh their impact on your future.

Answer 1

Answer:

productive benefits

Explanation:

Social and cultural relationships have productive benefits in society. Research defines social capital as a form of economic (e.g., money and property) and cultural (e.g., norms, fellowship, trust) assets central to a social network (Putnam 2000). The social networks people create and maintain with each other enable society to function. However, the work of Pierre Bourdieu (1972) found social capital produces and reproduces inequality when examining how people gain powerful positions through direct and indirect social connections. Social capital or a social network can help or hinder someone personally and socially. For example, strong and supportive social connections can facilitate job opportunities and promotion that are beneficial to the individual and social network. Weak and unsupportive social ties can jeopardize employment or advancement that are harmful to the individual and social group as well. People make cultural objects meaningful (Griswold 2013). Interactions and reasoning develop cultural perspectives and understanding. The “social mind” of groups process incoming signals influencing culture within the social structure including the social attributes and status of members in a society (Zerubavel 1999). Language and symbols express a person’s position in society and the expectations associated with their status. For example, the clothes people wear or car they drive represents style, fashion, and wealth. Owning designer clothing or a high performance sports car depicts a person’s access to financial resources and worth. The use of formal language and titles also represent social status such as salutations including your majesty, your highness, president, director, chief executive officer, and doctor.

People may occupy multiple statuses in a society. At birth, people are ascribed social status in alignment to their physical and mental features, gender, and race. In some cases, societies differentiate status according to physical or mental disability as well as if a child is female or male, or a racial minority. According to Dr. Jody Heymann, Dean of the World Policy Analysis Center at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, "Persons with disabilities are one of the last groups whose equal rights have been recognized" around the world

Read the Martin Luther King, Jr. passage set, and then respond to the following writing prompt:

Martin Luther King, Jr. was a well-known civil rights activist who greatly impacted American society through his boycotts, sit-ins, and marches. Think about which type of protest had the greatest impact. Then, write a four to five paragraph essay giving your opinion on which type of protest had the greatest impact on the civil rights movement. Use evidence from the three sources to support your opinion.

Which method of protest (boycotts, sit-ins, or marches) had the greatest impact on the civil rights movement? Why?

Source 1: An American Leader: Martin Luther King, Jr.

Bus Boycott

On December 1, 1955, 42-year-old Rosa Parks took a bus home from her workplace in Montgomery, Alabama. She sat in the first row of the "colored" section. When the bus filled up, the driver demanded that Parks give her seat to one of the white men who was standing. Parks refused and was arrested. That same night, Martin Luther King, Jr. met with other local civil rights leaders and planned a citywide bus boycott. King was elected to lead the boycott. He was seen as an upstanding citizen who could make a real difference.

The bus boycott lasted for 382 days. Most of Montgomery's African American community walked, rode bicycles, or carpooled to avoid taking the bus. They often faced harassment and violence from angry fellow citizens. King's home was fire-bombed during the boycott, but he did not give up. He launched a legal campaign against racial segregation laws. On June 4, 1956, the laws were overturned. African Americans would now be allowed to sit where they liked, like all other Americans. The Montgomery Bus Boycott propelled Martin Luther King to the forefront of the national civil rights movement.

Peaceful Protests

In 1957, Martin Luther King, Jr. founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference so that he could continue to help organize and conduct more nonviolent protests for civil rights. He traveled around the country speaking about race relations and joined in many peaceful protests. He was arrested a number of times during these years. King was arrested once for joining students at a sit-in protest at a department store that refused to serve lunch to African Americans. In the spring of 1963, King was arrested again during a demonstration in Birmingham, Alabama. King had been peacefully protesting alongside many families.

March to Make a Difference

In August of 1963, King helped to organize the March on Washington. There, he spoke to over 200,000 people from the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial. His delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech where he declared his hope that all Americans would one day be seen as equals. King's speech helped to bring about change to America's laws. In 1964, King was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for his fight against racial inequality.

Leaving a Legacy

Martin Luther King, Jr. continued to work for social justice through the 1960s. He visited many cities to speak about how ordinary people could bring about important social change through peaceful protesting. Sadly, after one such speech, King was assassinated while standing on a balcony outside of his hotel room. This terrible event occurred on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee.

King's life had a vast impact on civil rights in the United States. He is still known as one of the most important leaders in American history. His life and work are honored in many ways, including a national holiday, and many schools and public buildings are named after him. In fact, more than 900 cities have a street named after Martin Luther King, Jr. His inspiring legacy continues.

Boycotts

Boycotts had more of an impact because they caused companies and businesses to lose customers. Thus, causing them to have less money to sustain their business.  For example, the Montgomery bus boycotts. People of color and allies quit funding businesses because of segregation laws.

If you are finding your clients through some of the established freelance markets like Upwork, you will notice that more designers have an hourly rate quote. Some designers charge as little as fifteen dollars an hour and others charge hundreds. The average is around USD forty-five dollars an hour for graphic designers.

A common approach to figuring out an hourly rate is to divide the salary you want by the number of hours worked each year: 40 hours/week × 52 weeks/year = 2,080 hours. $100,000 desired salary ÷ 2,080 hours = roughly $50 per hour.

Which historical world event connects most closely with the themes of William Golding’s Lord of the Flies?
A. the first manned moon landing
B. the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918
C. the formation of NATO
D. the first use of atomic bombs in warfare

Answers

Answer:

D: the first use of atomic bombs in warfare

Explanation:

I took the test and got it right

The historical world event that connects most closely with the themes of William Golding's "Lord of the Flies" is C. the formation of NATO.

NATO means the "North Atlantic Treaty Organization," and was created in 1949 by the following countries: United States, Canada, and several Western European nations.

NATO was principally formed to provide security governance in Europe.

Europe, like the children in the "Lord of the Flies," needed a strong force to maintain rules, authority, and government.

According to William Golding's "Lord of the Flies," human beings, endowed with animal instincts and freedom, cannot operate without conflicts in the absence of enforced discipline, rules, and regulations.

Thus, the themes of Lord of the Flies, written in 1954, most closely connect with the formation of NATO in 1949 and not the first atomic bomb usage, which took place in Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945.
