The Crucible

4. Do you believe that people who commit serious crimes (murder, assault) can change? Do you think they should be forgiven by society? Which characters should and should not be forgiven?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer: I have always believed in second chances. I also believe in consequence, those who commit such crimes deserve to know they did wrong. They do deserve punishment, but with time things may change. Time heals as some say and some may find a kind heart to forgive. The main protagonist John proctor should be forgiven by his wife Elizabeth, he may have committed adultery, but he came clean when asked. He loves his wife, and forbade himself to ever touch Abigail again. As for Abigail, i feel her actions were fear born. The fear she had corrupted her choices, and she inflicted that fear upon the girls of the village, Mary warren was also controlled by fear. Making her give in to the lies being spread, and then accusing Proctor of witchery, in turn ending his life.

Read the passage and then answer the questions

Victor was angry Somebody had stolen $500 in cash from him, and When he found who it was, he was going to make the thief pay. He looked around for suspects and saw all smiling at him. It had to be
him Victor threw himself at Gil, ready to punch his lights out

Which of the endings to the scene would be most ironic?

A. Victor wins the fight and takes back his $500. 'Don't do that
again,' he says,

B. The cash was in Victor's pocket the whole time, but he loves it
while he is fighting Gil

C. The friendship between Gil and Victor never recovers after their
terrible fight

D. In the ensuing fight, Gil unexpectedly pleas for mercy, Victor feels
awful

Answers

Answer:

B. The cash was in Victor's pocket the whole time, but he loves it  while he is fighting Gil.

Explanation:

Irony is a rhetorical device that refers to when things did not go as expected. In an ironic situation, what is expected and what happens is the exact opposite of each other.

In the given scenario, Victor's belief that Gil took his money led to the altercation. But basing his suspicions without any proof, Victor may have made a huge mistake. Moreover, one ending that will be the most ironic is if Victor found the money in his own pocket while he'd blamed and even fought with Gil.

Thus, the correct answer is option B.

Based on Steve's actions in the first part of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street, readers may have predicted that Steve would continue being the town's leader during the power outage. How should readers revise this prediction after Don asks Steve about his radio? Readers should now predict that Les Goodman will attack Steve. Readers should now predict that Steve is one of the aliens. Readers should now predict that Steve will no longer be in charge. Readers should now predict that Steve will escape to Floral Street.

Answers

Answer:

Readers should revise this prediction after Don asks Steve about his radio in the following manner:

Readers should now predict that Steve will no longer be in charge.

Explanation:

Written by Rod Serling, "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" was an episode of the first season of the famous series "The Twilight Zone".

At this point, neighbors are already starting to suspect one another. They believe someone to be actually an alien after strange things begin to happen in the street. The voice of reason and natural leader so far has been Steve. However, once a radio he built is mentioned, things will most likely change. No one has ever seen the said radio, which makes neighbors suspect Steve has been communicating with aliens. From this point on, readers can change their initial prediction, realizing that Steve will no longer be in charge, especially after answering to the neighbors' inquiries with sarcasm.

9. According to "Zoo" and "The Blind Men and the Elephant," what role does perspective or point of view play in understanding a situation? Write an extended response that analyzes how this idea is developed through characters, setting, and plot in both the story and the poem. Cite evidence from both texts to support your response. Be sure to observe the conventions of standard English.

Answers

Answer:

“Zoo” tells the story of Teacher Hugo’s Interplanetary Zoo coming to the City of Chicago. Each year, the zoo brings intriguing animals from outsider lands for the individuals on soil to see. The individuals energetically pay the charge to see the creatures from a far off arrive and wonder at their modern and intriguing highlights. When the teacher brings the amazing horse-spider of Kaan, the individuals run to the display and clamor to share what they’ve seen with family and friends. The content states, “And the swarms gradually filled by, stunned and interested by these interesting animals that looked like steeds, but ran up the dividers of their cages like creepy crawlies. ‘This is certainly worth a dollar,’ one man commented. ‘I am going domestic to tell my wife.’” The man’s responses to the horse insects appear that he is captivated and fascinated by the Kaan horse-spider since it is not at all like anything that he has ever seen on Soil some time recently. Within the brief story, “Zoo” and the sonnet “The Daze Men and the Elephant,” the creators illustrate.

Kate uses 8.1 pints of white paint and blue paint to paint her bedroom walls. 1 4 of this amount is white paint, and the rest is blue paint. How many pints of blue paint did she use to paint her bedroom walls?

Answers

Answer: 6.075 pints of blue paint

Explanation:

Amount of white paint and blue paint used by Late to paint her bedroom walls = 8.1 pints

Fraction of white paint = 1/4

Fraction of blue paint = 1 - 1/4 = 3/4

The amount of blue paint used = 3/4 × 8.1

= 0.75 × 8.16

= 6.075 pints of blue paint
