Main health issues

Injuries

Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death and disability among adolescents. In 2019, over 115 000 adolescents died as a result of road traffic accidents. Many of those who died were “vulnerable road users”, including pedestrians, cyclists or users of motorized two-wheelers. In many countries, road safety laws need to be made more comprehensive, and enforcement of such laws needs to be strengthened. Furthermore, young drivers need advice on driving safely, while laws that prohibit driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs need to be strictly enforced among all age groups. Blood alcohol levels should be set lower for young drivers than for adults. Graduated licenses for novice drivers with zero-tolerance for drink-driving are recommended.

Drowning is also among the top causes of death among adolescents – more than 30 000 adolescents, over three quarters of them boys, are estimated to have drowned in 2019. Teaching children and adolescents to swim is an essential intervention to prevent these deaths.

Violence

Interpersonal violence is the fourth leading cause of death in adolescents and young people globally. Its prominence varies substantially by world region. It causes nearly a third of all adolescent male deaths in low- and middle-income countries in the WHO Region of the Americas. According to the global school-based student health survey 42% of adolescent boys and 37% of adolescent girls were exposed to bullying. Sexual violence also affects a significant proportion of youth: 1 in 8 young people report sexual abuse.

Violence during adolescence also increases the risks of injury, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, mental health problems, poor school performance and dropout, early pregnancy, reproductive health problems, and communicable and noncommunicable diseases.

Part A: Which is the speaker's point of view in the poem?
A) He is angry that most people have already forgotten about Paul Revere's ride.

B) He is sad and shocked about the unnecessary bloodshed.

C) He has disdain for the enemy soldiers because they retreated.

D) He believes that Paul Revere inspired the nation to unite and fight the British.

Answers

Answer:

D.

Explanation:

'Paul Revere’s Ride' is a poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The poem is about the famous ride by Paul Revere on April 18, 1775.

The poem is written to inspire his readers rather than detailing out the historical event. Longfellow, through this poem, wants to convey to his readers that they should look at Paul Revere as a symbol of a national hero.

Therefore, the speaker's point of view in the poem is that he believed that Paul Revere was an inspiration who united the nation in the fight against the British. Thus option D is correct.

I really need help- I am really confused-

The year is 1816 and you are a teenager living in St. Martinville, Louisiana. Though you left school at the age of twelve, you are the first in your family to learn how to read and write.

Your mother has come to you with a task.

Your great-grandfather, Jacques DuBois, is in poor health. At 80, he does not have long to live. He is the oldest member of your farming community and is the last to remember the first arrival of the Acadians in Louisiana from Grand-Pré, Nova Scotia in 1765.

Your mother has asked you to write his story for the family records. He has been reluctant to tell of his hardships over the years, but he has agreed to speak with you over the next few weeks.

Your assignment has five parts. You will write all of it in first person in the voice of your character. Each entry will be about 150-200 words. journal from

Part I: Explain who you are, where you live and what you do. Although you live in a Cajun community and speak French at home, you are a third-generation American who has never left Louisiana. Explain briefly the task that you have agreed to and how you will carry it out.

Part II: Tell the story of your great-grandfather's life in Grand-Pré during the Acadian Golden Age.

Part III: Tell the story of why he left Nova Scotia and how he ended up in Louisiana.

Part IV: Explain what it was like for him to settle in St. Martinville and describe the difficulties he faced.

Part V: Reflect on how you have felt about the process of speaking to your great-grandfather and writing down his story. Has this experience changed how you feel about yourself as a Cajun? If so, how?

You may need to do some research here. You can start with this site, which gives the background on Grand-Pré. Keep track of any sources that you use and include them in your report.

Format

You have a few choices here. You can use any of the following:

hand-written journal (you may have to scan this)
typed document which should look like it came from 1815
audio recording
oral report - discuss with your teacher the possibility of reading the report aloud from a set of notecards
Marks

If you choose an oral report, you will be marked out of four for fluency, pronunciation and intonation, rather than mechanics and grammar.

The first postage stamp, the "Penny Black," was printed and used in England in 1840. The stamp was called the "Penny Black" because it was printed in black ink and was sold for a penny. Mail was sent and received long before the first stamp, but it was the receiver who had to pay for the mail, not the sender. Since some people were unable to pay to receive their mail, the idea of the postage stamp was born.In 1845, five years after England's "Penny Black," the first stamp was printed in the United States of America. Two years later, on July 1, 1847 the first official U.S. postage stamps were issued featuring the portraits of our first postmaster and our first President. The five cent value paid for postal service up to a distance of 300 miles. The stamp, printed in blue, has a catalog value of hundreds of dollars today. A used or canceled copy of this stamp is worth at least half as much as an unused stamp. This stamp was issued imperforate (unperforated) and had to be cut apart with scissors. The adoption of adhesive stamps opened up the development of today's extensive postal system.Since 1845, the United States has printed more than 3,000 different kinds of stamps. Gradually, all of the world's countries began to issue stamps.Several kinds of postage stamps are printed. Some of the most interesting are the commemoratives. A commemorative stamp honors anniversaries, important people, or special events. It is usually on sale at the post office only for a short time.A more common stamp is called a regular issue. Regular issue stamps are printed in greater numbers, and can be obtained for a longer period of time. They are sold in stamp machines as well as in the post office.Other less common stamps are airmail stamps, special delivery stamps, and envelope stamps. If you have ever seen a postage stamp album of the United States, you will know that it has spaces to put all of these stamps.Submit your persuasive writing about stamp collecting.
