The adoption of adhesive stamps opened up the development of today's extensive postal system.

Since 1845, the United States has printed more than 3,000 different kinds of stamps. Gradually, all of the world's countries began to issue stamps.

Several kinds of postage stamps are printed. Some of the most interesting are the commemoratives. A commemorative stamp honors anniversaries, important people, or special events. It is usually on sale at the post office only for a short time.

A more common stamp is called a regular issue. Regular issue stamps are printed in greater numbers, and can be obtained for a longer period of time. They are sold in stamp machines as well as in the post office.

Blueberries

The blueberry is one of North America's native fruits. The continent produces 90 percent of the world's blueberries. Harvest time runs from mid-April to the beginning of October. July is the height of the season. In the United States, it is known as National Blueberry Month.

Many tasty dishes can be made from blueberries, including pies, breads, jellies, and jams. Top your morning cereal with some fresh blueberries. Or serve them by themselves or mixed with other fruit and pour on cream, milk, or yogurt. They are wonderful to eat fresh off the stem too.

History of the Blueberry
