Narrator

Scene 1

Princess is swimming in the ocean, singing.

Narrator: Once, long ago, there lived a beautiful princess on the island of Hawai'i. She loved the ocean, and every morning, she swam in the warm water. While she swam, she sang songs about her love for the deep, blue water and her gratitude for the gentle waves.

Princess: Oh, how I love the ocean. I never want to live anywhere else. If I could not see the beauty of the blue water or hear the sound of the waves, my heart would break.

Princess sees a huge shark fin approaching. Frightened, she swims for shore.

Narrator: One day, the king of the sharks heard the princess's song. Enchanted by her voice and her love for the ocean, he decided that he must meet her. Seeing how frightened she was of his true form, the shark king transformed himself into a human, with a magical cloak of scales in all the colors of the sea.

Princess watches in amazement as a prince in a cloak of many-colored scales steps out of the water and offers her his hand.

Shark King: Dearest Princess, I am so pleased to finally meet you. I have heard your songs many times, and I, too, love the ocean. It is my home.

Princess: Please, come with me to meet my family. They will be amazed to see you.

Exit princess and shark king.

Scene 2

Princess sits by a deep pool on the beach. A large home built into a cliff face is behind her. She holds a baby on her lap. In the pool, a large shark circles.

Narrator: After some time, the shark king and the princess were married. They lived together happily, and they had a son. Sadly, the enchantment that made the shark king human could not last forever.

Shark king emerges from the pool in human form. He removes his cloak and lays it at the princess's feet.

Shark King: My dearest one, I must return home to the ocean now. I will leave this magical cloak for our son. Whenever he wears it, he will be safe from all harm. One day, he will come to find me in his true home, under the waves.

Shark king jumps back into the pool and disappears down into its depths. The princess wraps the baby in the cloak.

Scene 3

Young man with a birthmark in the shape of shark teeth on his back is hiding behind some trees, listening to fishermen talk.

Narrator: The shark prince grew up. He became a strong young man who looked just like the other young men of the village, except for the strange birthmark on his back.

Fisherman 1: I hear there is good fishing out at the cove. I will head there tomorrow morning at first light.

Fisherman 2: I will join you! Be sure you don't mention where you are going to anyone else. It will mean more fish for us!

Fisherman 1: I won't tell a soul. You must have said something last time. There were hardly any fish left.

Narrator: The prince often listened to where the village fishermen planned to go, and he would always get there first to eat his fill of the delicious fish. With his father's cloak around his shoulders, the prince could transform into a shark whenever he chose. The fishermen were becoming suspicious.

Exit fishermen. Prince creeps down to the water's edge and wraps the cloak around his shoulders before jumping into the sea. A shark fin can be seen heading out into the water. Enter fishermen.

Fisherman 1: I knew it! That trickster boy has been stealing our fish.

Fisherman 2: It's not right, using magic to rob honest people of food and a living.

Fisherman 1: He must go.

Scene 4

Fishermen and other villagers are crowded around the pool outside the princess's house. The princess and her son stand in front of them.

Princess: It is time for my son to join his father in the ocean.

Prince: I'm very sorry for all the trouble I've caused.

Villagers: Back to the ocean with you!

Prince: I promise to never take more than my share of the fish again.

Prince hugs his mother goodbye and wraps the cloak around his shoulders. He jumps into the pool and swims down so deep that no one can see him. Far off, out in the ocean, a huge shark fin can be seen bobbing above the water. Soon, a smaller fin joins it.

Narrator: The shark prince joined his father in the ocean, and to this day, the sharks never take more than their share of the fish.

What is Ocean ?

The body of salt water known as the ocean, sometimes known as the sea or the world ocean, is what covers around 70.8% of the planet's surface and holds 97% of its water. Any of the large bodies of water that the world ocean is typically divided into can also be referred to as an ocean. Five distinct oceanic regions are given distinct names: the Pacific (biggest), the Atlantic, the Indian, the Southern, and the Arctic (smallest). Approximately 361,000,000 km2 (139,000,000 sq mi) of the planet is covered in water. Since the ocean is the main part of the hydrosphere, it is essential to life as we know it. The ocean affects climate and weather patterns, the carbon cycle, and the water cycle by serving as a significant heat reservoir.

Read this excerpt from "The Past" by Ellen Glasgow.

When I gave my name and explained that I was the new secretary, I was delivered into the charge of an elderly lady's maid, who looked as if she had been crying. Without speaking a word, though she nodded kindly enough, she led me down the hall, and then up a flight of stairs at the back of the house to a pleasant bedroom in the third story. There was a great deal of sunshine, and the walls, which were painted a soft yellow, made the room very cheerful. It would be a comfortable place to sit in when I was not working, I thought, while the sad-faced maid stood watching me remove my wraps and hat.

"If you are not tired, Mrs. Vanderbridge would like to dictate a few letters," she said presently, and they were the first words she had spoken.

"I am not a bit tired. Will you take me to her?" One of the reasons, I knew, which had decided Mrs. Vanderbridge to engage me was the remarkable similarity of our handwriting. We were both Southerners, and though she was now famous on two continents for her beauty, I couldn't forget that she had got her early education at the little academy for young ladies in Fredericksburg. This was a bond of sympathy in my thoughts at least, and, heaven knows, I needed to remember it while I followed the maid down the narrow stairs and along the wide hall to the front of the house.

Who is the story’s first-person narrator?

a woman hired to be a secretary
an older lady's maid

OR
(b) Write a story that starts with the opening of a door to a room that you are not supposed to

Answers

Answer:

The Figure in the Long, Black Coat :

I never really realized the figure was there. At least, at first. But now, as I lay peacefully on pristine white sheets that harshly contrasted against my tan skin and the tangy smell of disinfectant dancing merrily through the air, I realized that the figure had always been there. It had been a constant all throughout my life since I was a child. I just never really noticed.

I remember playing in a nearby playground as a young child. I remember the old, red swings that creaked every time someone sat on them. I used to go there with my friend Ernie to play till the sun had set and Mom would call us in for dinner. There was always a man wearing a long black coat sitting on a bench nearby eating cotton candy. Strawberry flavoured cotton candy, to be exact. He was lonely, I thought. Coming to the park everyday to see children play. That was the extent of it and sooner than later, I forgot about him.

There was also those times in the public library. I had been going through a bookworm phase then, reading through hundreds of books in order to distract myself from the fact that I had no friends. It worked, sometimes. Other times, my concentration would be broken when I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. I saw a woman with a long black coat, idly browsing through the romance novels section. Sometimes she would select a book and read the summary only to frown delicately at it and put it back. I suspected it was more due to the predictable and boring story line than the overly dramatized and unrealistic cover that almost without fail, would have gorgeous men with bulging muscles and flawless hair. At least, I would like to have hope so. I never paid much attention after that. Maybe she was lonely too.

Other times, I saw the figure at night. He was sitting on the bench opposite of my house and he gently placed what looked to be a sketchbook on his lap. He was always drawing. His hand would run across the page with slow but expressive strokes that seemed to caress the paper and I would be hypnotized, at least for that moment in time by this strange, lonely man, creating art. I would wonder sometimes what he could’ve been drawing, what piece of art took up so much of his concentration, so much of his effort, his care and his love. But after, I always seem to remember that going up and making small talk with a stranger that sketches outside of your house at night isn’t normal, and so I would close the curtains and sleep. I never gave him a second thought the day after.

But now, as I lay dying from this disease, I see the figure again. Only this time it’s Ernie. Ernie, with his sweet, soft smile and carefree heart now stood before me when in reality, he had died years ago. Car crash, they had said. Some drunk driver had crashed into them and Ernie was gone. Just like that. But that had been 40 years ago. Now, he stood before me in a long black coat and offered me his hand. Slowly, I took it and smiled.

how do social media platforms affect the social skills of the learners at school?

Answers

social media can improve a student’s ability to communicate with other people by exposing them to new people every single day. with each one of these new exposures, there comes a possibility for the student to have a conversation, really about anything and everything. as the student gets more comfortable with talking to others, their social skills will improve at school. this could mean a more outgoing personality, more visibly engaged in the lesson (asking more questions/ answering more questions) and talking to their peers rather than sitting alone. of course, social media has many bad qualities, but it really does have some good qualities as well.
In my opinion, social media can improve social skills of students. Social media helps students communicate with each other, share their information (educational) and knowledge with each other, and connect with educational/ learning groups. Some students who are more of a introvert have a hard time talking face to face with someone, or calling but are more comfortable texting.

How was Miller able to convey his point of view about the political atmosphere of his time in The Crucible?
by comparing Joseph McCarthy to a witch
by creating mass hysteria to avoid punishment for his controversial views
O by creating a parallel between the accused witches and the accused communists
O by writing about women who were punished for crimes their husbands committed

Answers

Answer:

C. by creating a parallel between the accused witches and the accused communists.

Explanation:

The Crucible is one of the masterpieces written by Arthur Miller. The play not only reflects the incidents of the Salem witch trials but also the trials under John McCarthy. When Miller wrote this play, America was going through its modern-day witch trials, in which American citizens were put on trial for their involvement in Communism.

Therefore, Miller was able to convey his point of view about McCarthyism by creating a parallel between accused witches and accused communists.

Thus, option C is correct.
