Graphic novels are not necessarily original pieces of work. Popular comic strips are usually redone as graphic novels.
Will Eisner is considered to be one of the first graphic novelists in America. Today, he is known as "the father of the graphic novel." He published his first graphic novel in 1978. The paper quality of the graphic novel is also different from that of comics. After Eisner published his books, the demand for better types of comics increased.
