Which statement is true about the sharecropping economic activity in the South?

Answers

Answer:

In sharecropping, both freed slaves and poor whites borrowed land, seeds, and tools from a landowner, in exchange for a share of the crop at harvest time. In tenant farming, those with more cash could rent the land, and thus keep all of their harvest. During Reconstruction, the Southern economy was still heavily dependent on agriculture.

How did the pursuit of Manifest Destiny
create tension in the country that
eventually led to Civil War?

Answers

TL;DR

Manifest Destiny encouraged American settlers to expand the frontier, which

1. displaced Native Americans, increasing racial tensions among whites and non-whites.

2. added new states to the Union that were known as "slave states," which complicated the issue of slavery.

Explanation:

First, we should ask what exactly is "Manifest Destiny"?

Manifest destiny was the cultural idea that the United States should expand towards the west - they were destined for bigger things, in this case, bigger territory.

So, why would Manifest Destiny eventually lead to the Civil War?

To oversimplify a bit here, the Civil War was the internal U.S. conflict between the northern states (the Union) and the southern states (the Confederacy). The North wanted to preserve the Union and end slavery. The South had slaves as plantation workers, so they wanted to separate from the Union and keep slavery. So how does manifest destiny fit into this?

The idea of Manifest Destiny encouraged settlers to move west. While doing so, they encountered Native American tribes who were already present on the continent. The U.S. government and the settlers decided to relocate these Native Americans away from settler lands. American settlers had this ingrained idea of "us" vs. "them" or "whites" vs. "non-whites," which is related to the issue of slavery.

On that note, as settlers and explorers claimed new lands, they eventually formed new states that would be part of the South. When tensions on the issue of slavery began to rise, people asked, "Should slavery be permitted?" which led to another important question, "Where should slavery be permitted?" Should slavery be permitted everywhere in the U.S? or just the South? Slave-owners had a larger "stage" to act on- more slave states mean more territory, resources, and, most importantly, people.

Manifest Destiny enabled the U.S. to acquire more territory, and people took the idea even further: that the U.S. was destined to be an all white-country, no matter the place.

How did Andrew Jackson treat the second national bank? Why?

Answers

Answer:

President Andrew Jackson announces that the government will no longer use the Second Bank of the United States, the country’s national bank, on September 10, 1833. He then used his executive power to remove all federal funds from the bank, in the final salvo of what is referred to as the “Bank War."

A national bank had first been created by George Washington and Alexander Hamilton in 1791 to serve as a central repository for federal funds. The Second Bank of the United States was founded in 1816; five years after this first bank’s charter had expired. Traditionally, the bank had been run by a board of directors with ties to industry and manufacturing, and therefore was biased toward the urban and industrial northern states. Jackson, the epitome of the frontiersman, resented the bank’s lack of funding for expansion into the unsettled Western territories. Jackson also objected to the bank’s unusual political and economic power and to the lack of congressional oversight over its business dealings.

Jackson, known as obstinate and brutish but a man of the common people, called for an investigation into the bank’s policies and political agenda as soon as he settled in to the White House in March 1829. To Jackson, the bank symbolized how a privileged class of businessmen oppressed the will of the common people of America. He made clear that he planned to challenge the constitutionality of the bank, much to the horror of its supporters. In response, the director of the bank, Nicholas Biddle, flexed his own political power, turning to members of Congress, including the powerful Kentucky Senator Henry Clay and leading businessmen sympathetic to the bank, to fight Jackson.

Later that year, Jackson presented his case against the bank in a speech to Congress; to his chagrin, its members generally agreed that the bank was indeed constitutional. Still, controversy over the bank lingered for the next three years. In 1832, the divisiveness led to a split in Jackson’s cabinet and, that same year, the obstinate president vetoed an attempt by Congress to draw up a new charter for the bank. All of this took place during Jackson’s bid for re-election; the bank’s future was the focal point of a bitter political campaign between the Democratic incumbent Jackson and his opponent Henry Clay. Jackson’s promises to empower the “common man” of America appealed to the voters and paved the way for his victory. He felt he had received a mandate from the public to close the bank once and for all, despite Congress’ objections. Biddle vowed to continue to fight the president, saying that “just because he has scalped Indians and imprisoned Judges [does not mean] he is to have his way with the bank.”

On September 10, 1833, Jackson removed all federal funds from the Second Bank of the U.S., redistributing them to various state banks, which were popularly known as “pet banks.” In addition, he announced that deposits to the bank would not be accepted after October 1. Finally, Jackson had succeeded in destroying the bank; its charter officially expired in 1836.

Jackson did not emerge unscathed from the scandal. In 1834, Congress censured Jackson for what they viewed as his abuse of presidential power during the Bank War.

What was the "Wild Mary Sudik"?

Answers

The Wild Mary Sudik gusher was an oil well blowout that took place on March 26, 1930 in what is now Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. The gusher from Mary Sudik No. 1 well received extensive media coverage and was the subject of daily radio reports by NBC's Floyd Gibbons and newsreels that were shown in movie theaters. The gusher flowed for eleven days before it was capped on the third try.[1][2]

Mary Sudik No. 1 well was developed by the Indian Territory Illuminating Oil Company on the property of Vincent and Mary Sudik.[3] The well, located about 2,000 feet (610 m) to the southeast of the present intersection of Interstate 240 and Bryant Avenue, to the south of the Oklahoma City center, blew out when the drilling crew underestimated well pressures in the newly developed Wilcox formation, producing 20,000 barrels of oil and 200,000,000 cubic feet (5,700,000 m3) of gas per day from the 6,471-foot (1,972 m) well.[1][2] According to the well completion report, it produced 15,441 barrels of oil in a test run for 13 hours and 15 minutes.[4] The crew had neglected to keep sufficient drilling mud in the well, and did not use a safety head, contrary to the accepted practice of the time, running the well "wild."[5] The initial flow of gas from the well changed to oil after about a day, with oil fountaining up to 400 feet (120 m) into the air. Oil vapor blew in the wind as far as Norman, 11 miles (18 km) to the south. A safety zone was established around the well to prevent fire. The American Iron and Machine Company was engaged to cap the well, led by superintendent H. M. Myracle.[6] The first attempt failed after twelve hours, but a second attempt restricted the flow, and oil was diverted into a pit until a final seal could be effected. A total of 211,600 barrels of oil was recovered from the vicinity of the well,[7] and as many as 800,000 barrels were believed to have been wasted. Once controlled, Mary Sudik No. 1 was the most productive well in the world in 1930.[5]

The blowout, and a similar gas well blowout in Oklahoma City the day after the Mary Sudik well was brought under control, stimulated the development and use of blowout preventers as standard equipment in petroleum well drilling, and resulted in greater regulation of well drilling in Oklahoma City.[1][2][5]

The Sudiks were Czech immigrants[5] who moved to Oklahoma from Nebraska in 1904 to buy their 160-acre (65 ha) dairy farm. They expanded the farm to two additional quarter sections, one of which, bought in 1924, was the site of the wild well. Mary had been the first to sign the well lease, so the wells on the property were named after her. Mary Valish Sudik, a modest woman, was offered roles in a vaudeville tour and a movie. She and her husband instead moved into town and lived quietly on the royalties from the thirteen wells on their property.[3][8] Mary died in 1942, her obituary appearing on the front page of the Daily Oklahoman.[9] Vincent died in 1940.[10][9] Their son Orie was killed while working on a well in the Moore oil field of Oklahoma in 1945.[11][9]

The Mary Sudik No. 1 well was finally plugged on June 22, 1974 by the operator, Cities Service Oil Company.[12]

What were three proposed policies of Nazi party ?

Answers

Answer:

See below.

Explanation:

Firstly there was the elimination of all political opposition. Hitler saw democracy as a weak and ineffective system as evidenced by the failures associated by the Weimar Republic.

Secondly total control and full exploitation of the mass media. Hitler was one of the first politicians to fully appreciate and exploit the mass media. He used an aeroplane to criss-cross Germany addressing crowds in several cities in a day. The Volkesmpfanger, a very cheap radio, was mass produced so everyone could afford one.

There was finally his policy on race aimed primarily at the Jews in Europe which would lead finally to 6 million deaths. Half baked philosophies such as aryanism and eugenics argued that the Germans and other aryan races were superior and had to eliminate sub-human races such as Jews, Romas, Slavs, etc in order to preserve their dominance and purity.

The former Confederate Army officers in Tennessee 1866 founded the Ku Klux Klan membership. Thus the correct option is B.

What was Confederate Army?

During the American Civil War, the Confederate States of America's army was known as the Confederate Army. Southern states started breaking away from the union in 1860, just after Abraham Lincoln won the presidency.

In the winter of 1865–1866, a group of Confederate Army soldiers met in Pulaski, Tennessee, and founded the Ku Klux Klan as a community center. The name Ku Klux Klan was given from the Greek word "kyklos," which means circle.

By the middle of the 1920s, the Ku Klux Klan had expanded quickly to include more than two million people nationwide. A recruiting weapon for the Klan was Griffith's movie THE BIRTH OF A NATION, which praised the Klan and demeaned black people.

Therefore, option B is appropriate.
