Explanation:

The History went a little like this. According to legend, Romulus killed Remus -- both descendants of Aeneas, and founded Rome in 753 BC. After a bunch of kings, the Etruscans took over in the 600s BC, who were overthrown by the Romans in 509 BC. This resulted in the ROMAN REPUBLIC.

The Roman Republic is an indirect democracy in which citizens get to choose their leader to make the decisions for them. Furthermore, the republic is a tripartite, including the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the Judicial branch, just like the US nowadays.

The executive brach consists of 2 consuls, basically presidents, who can veto each other in case of corruption. During emergencies, a dictator out of the two consuls is appointed; the dictator has temporary supreme power, until the crisis is over. For example, Cincinnatus was a famous dictator who also inspired George Washington when setting up the US government.

The legislative branch is basically the Senate, with 300 upper class members, primarily for proposing laws and voting. I believe they also have a plebeian assembly, which can veto the laws to make sure it doesn't oppress the plebeians too much. The judicial branch has 8 judges, who can supervise the overall running of the country and check for corruption.

That's basically it. Hope you find this helpful.

Who was Aristotle? Why is he referred to in a discussion about democracy in America?

Answers

Ans: who was Aristotle? Aristotle was a Greek philosopher and polymath during the Classical period in Ancient Greece. Taught by Plato, he was the founder of the Lyceum, the Peripatetic school of philosophy, and the Aristotelian tradition.
Why is Aristotle referred to in discussions of democracy?

The debate on forms of government has interested man since the times of ancient Greece. It is there, between the fifth and fourth centuries BC, that the first philosophers began to reflect on the subject, effectively creating the foundations of Western political thought. The classifications of the forms of government that have most survived the centuries are those of Plato and Aristotle. Both understood that the government could be of one, of a few or of many, and both theorized that, for each of these possibilities, there was a good and a corrupt form.

Aristotle, a pupil of Plato, will perfect the classification of constitutions made by his teacher by creating the most important work of antiquity on the subject: "Politica".
He studied in detail the different forms of government of the different polis and divided them on the basis of the number of rulers: monarchy, aristocracy and polythéia.
The degenerate forms are tyranny, oligarchy and democracy.

But what is the criterion you used to classify good and corrupt forms?
The former are those in which the rulers act for the common good, the latter those in which they are moved only by personal ends.

For example, it is when the sovereign no longer feels bound by the laws and breaks them for his convenience that the monarchy becomes tyranny.
Oligarchy means precisely "government of the rich", which is very different from the aristocracy, that is, the "government of the best". In the first case, the few rule to increase their wealth, in the second they make their wisdom available to the polis. Similarly, while politéia means "government of the many", democracy here means "government of the people", that is, of the poor, who for Aristotle would use power only for their own interest.

However, we must consider that the democracy that the ancient Greeks had in mind was not the one we are used to, but the one in which citizens, gathered in assembly, concretely took decisions. It was a direct democracy, while ours is representative: we do not take decisions directly, but we elect representatives who do it for us.

Why was Calhoun against the tariff of 1828?

Answers

Calhoun, who opposed the federal imposition of the tariffs of 1828 and 1832 and argued that the U.S. Constitution gave states the right to block the enforcement of a federal law. In November 1832 South Carolina adopted the Ordinance of Nullification, declaring the tariffs null, void, and nonbinding in the state.
Calhoun argued that the US Constitution was based on a pact by 13 sovereign states. He thought that if the Constitution was established by 13 sovereign states then each state had the right to nullify or reject a federal law that it considered unconstitutional

Explain the difference between the prosecutor in a criminal case and the prosecutor in a civil case. (Site 1)

Answers

There are two different bodies of law that create our justice system: civil cases and criminal cases. Criminal cases happen when someone breaks a law, or commits a criminal offense, which typically results in jail time. Civil cases handle almost all other disputes, and typically aim for some sort of recovery.

A criminal case is filed by the government and is led by a prosecuting attorney. A civil case is filed by a private party, typically an individual or corporation, against another individual or corporation. As a rule, but not exclusively, there are attorneys who practice criminal law and others who practice civil litigation.

Do you think that the Internet and computers are having as big an impact on society as the invention of printing? Why or why not?

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

A few years ago there was a series on who or what had the most influence on the depelement of mankind. I was pulling for Einstein as the program slowly made it to the top ten and then the top 5. There were lots of names to consider from 5 to 1. Newton came in 3 or 4 which is an understatement. Einstein came in at number 2, which really  surprised me. When it was all over, the Printing Press was number one.

Consider what it did. It made knowledge that much easier to spread to the lower classes. That made the upper classes very nervous because their power was seeping away. So the printing press affected politics and political organization.

It took the power away from the clergy for up until then, they held the power to tell if you belonged in Heaven or Hell. That gave religion a run for its money.

It made commerce a whole lot different, because how accounting was done changed.

You could make statements about family life, child birth, medicine, physics, chemistry that was helped by the printing press.

Have computers done the same thing? They certainly changed the face of commerce. They've changed education immensely. Most people don't write anymore. They type or even say things.

They mechanized our life (no one stands on a corner to direct traffic, for example). They've made transportation better and safer. They've made medicine less monotonous by doing the work for us.

But I'm not certain they're had the same effect as the printing press.

So my vote is for the printing press, but then I'm old.
