How do text features and structures aid our understanding of central idea and supporting details? What role does inference and text evidence play in this process?

15 pts because i need this urgently :,)

Answers

Answer:

Text features and structures help you locate important information in a text. Knowing the purpose of the text feature helps you decide at which text feature to look when you want to understand your text better. Organized by purpose, the chart identifies text features and how they help the reader. Text features and structures also help readers determine what is important to the text and to them. Without a table of contents or an index, readers can spend wasted time flipping through the book to find the information they need. Special print helps draw the attention of the reader to important or key words and phrases. An inference is an idea the reader can draw while you're reading the text using existing data, which includes text and structural features. So it's good for readers to use the text features to strengthen their inference.

The formatting of this title is acceptable: I visited the "The Empire State Building" when I went to New York City this past summer!

True OR False

Answers

Answer:

It is false..

Explanation:

The title will need to be like: Visiting the "The Empire State Building", but the part on I visited the "The Empire State Building" when I went to New York City this past summer! , will be the first part of the sentence after the title.

hope this help!^^

if it wrong, i am sorry about that))

Answer: False

Explanation:

Well, just talking about one part of New York City doesn't sum up the entirety of your trip. Think about it. You're trying to talk about what you did during the summer. If you put one thing about it, that doesn't give the readers an insight on what you really did. A title is supposed to encapsulate the general idea.

Which of the following is an opinion?

A.
The Statue of Liberty cost a tremendous amount of money to build.

B.
The Statue of Liberty was sculpted by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi.

C.
The Statue of Liberty is over 151 feet tall.

D.
The Statue of Liberty may sway 3 inches on a windy day.

1] More than a million people immigrate to the United States to start new lives every year, and if they are arriving in New York, one of the first sights that they will see is the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty stands on Liberty Island, near Manhattan in New York. Though she is often thought to be a resident of New York, Liberty Island is actually federal property, which means that the Statue of Liberty belongs to the whole country. The Statue of Liberty is not only the tallest statue in America; it is also one of the most recognizable American symbols.

[2] The Statue of Liberty is huge. From the tip of the torch to the pedestal on which she stands, she is just over 151 feet tall. If you include the pedestal in your measurement, she stands more than 305 feet off of the ground. That’s more than 30 basketball hoops or an entire football field. Her waist size is 35 feet, which would make it awfully tough to find pants, and the tablet she holds is 23 feet long. Don’t worry though; she hasn’t had any trouble holding that tablet yet with her 8 foot index finger. Talk about heavy handed…

[3] Though America financed and built the pedestal on which the Statue of Liberty stands, the statue itself was a gift from France. In this way the complete work, much like the United States, is a product of both American and French contributions. At one time America was ruled by the British. The founding fathers of America chose to fight against Great Britain for the independence of their country. France supported America by providing money, men, and weapons of war. Had it not been for French contributions during the Revolutionary War, America would not exist in the way that it does today; therefore, it is quite fitting that the Statue of Liberty, which represents freedom, came to being by a joint American and French effort. On October 28th, 1886, just over one-hundred years after America declared its independence from Great Britain, the Statue of Liberty was completed and dedicated by its designer, Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi.

[4] Perhaps no one person did more to bring the statue into being than Bartholdi. Not only did Bartholdi gain both French and American approval for the project, he led the French fundraising efforts and designed the appearance of the statue. The appearance of the Statue of Liberty is somewhat derived from Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom. The torch represents how liberty enlightens the world. The seven points or rays coming from the top of the crown represent the sun, the seven seas, the seven continents, and (as with the torch) how liberty enlightens the world. Though much of the statue was modeled after depictions of goddesses, Bartholdi modeled the face after his mother. Now that’s a Mother’s Day gift that’s hard to top.

[5] Though Bartholdi was responsible for the external appearance of the statue, the internal design can be largely credited to innovative designer, Gustave Eiffel. Though Mr. Eiffel is best known for his contributions to a tower in Paris that is named after him, he also engineered the internal structure that holds up the Statue of Liberty. Eiffel chose to use a flexible structure, so that changes in the temperature and strong winds from the ocean would not cause the statue to crack. Because of Eiffel’s crafty design, the Statue of Liberty may sway as much as three inches on a windy day. If the winds exceed 50 miles per hour, the torch may sway five inches. Eiffel is also responsible for including two spiraling staircases on the interior of the statue to help visitors reach the observation point in the crown.

[6] While most people appreciate the Statue of Liberty today, during its construction in the 1870s, many Americans were critical of the project. Some took issue with the fact that Bartholdi was French. They believed that American monuments should be designed and constructed by Americans. Others felt that the statue wasn’t much of a gift since it required Americans to foot the bill for the pedestal. After the Panic of 1873, America fell into a deep economic depression that lasted through much of the 1870s. (During an economic depression people spend less money and it is harder to find jobs.) Because the nation was going through a depression, many Americans thought that money should not be spent to support a giant French statue. I think most Americans would now agree that it was a good investment.

its the only explanation compared to the other, its not a fact because you dont know exactly if it will sway or not.

Although it probably did cost a lot of money to build, that is an opinion. let’s say i have 1 million dollars and you have 100. $50 to me is nothing, but that’s half of your money. therefore, saying that it costed a tremendous amount of money is an opinion

The Etching on this page is of Overhead Telephone and Telegraph Wires in Broadway, 1890. "Wires snapped on a regular basis as a result of over tension, wind, or ice weighing them down. The electrical wires carried a significant charge, but the other wires carried electricity as well. As wires snapped and lashed across streets, smashing against buildings, thrashing about, spraying sparks in all directions, blocks were rendered impassable until power to the downed lines could be cut." From "Book of Old New York." Henry Collins Brown. 1913.

If you were in charge of designing a wire to carry electricity across your city, state or province, which of the following properties would be most important for your wire to have?

(MAKE IT A PARAGRAPH) Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not?

Answers

I believe in love at first sight because even when people don’t believe in it, there’s actually science behind the feeling of falling in love at first sight. True deep love may not exist when you first meet someone but you may create the memory of falling in love later on in your relationship.
I do not believe in love at first sight for this reason. For starters, love is not a thing that occurs instantly. It takes time and getting to know a person to truly love them. Attraction on the other hand does usually occur at first sight.

Caleb is prepared to share ideas on a topic he and his group have been assigned, but during the discussion the conversation takes an unexpected turn. What is the best way for Caleb to adjust to this sudden change of ideas? He should take notes, listen carefully, and wait to share his ideas at the next meeting. He should listen for a connection he can make, collect his thoughts, and speak clearly when he is ready. He should raise his hand, wait to be called on, and inform the moderator that the group is no longer on topic. He should politely interrupt one of the speakers and get the discussion back on track.

Who were the Drummer Boys? Provide a summary in your own words

Answer:

They were younger boys who would serve as drummers for western armies in the second half of the 19th century.

Answer:

During the second half of the 19th century, it was accepted in many western armies that under aged boys served as drummers. Although there were usually official age limits, these were often ignored; the youngest boys were sometimes treated as mascots by the adult soldiers.

Explanation:

A drummer was responsible for the army drums for use on the battlefield. Drums were part of the field music for hundreds of years, being introduced by the Ottomans to Europe. Chinese armies however had used drums even before that. With the professionalization of armies, military music was developed as well.
