Answers

Answer 1

Dan Cody was a self-made man who made a fortune in mining and had moored his yacht near where Gatsby was working. Gatsby noticed a storm brewing and rowed out to warn Cody of the storm. In gratitude, Cody offered Gatsby a job, and Gatsby became a general assistant to Cody.

Dan Cody is a millionaire who is sailing in his boat and meets up with James Gatz. He takes on the charming young and allows him to travel about with him and learn about the life of a wealthy man.

Cody was a heavy drinker, and one of Gatsby's jobs was to look after him during his drunken binges. This gave Gatsby a healthy respect for the dangers of alcohol and convinced him not to become a drinker himself. When Cody died, he left Gatsby $25,000, but Cody's mistress prevented him from claiming his inheritance.

Gatsby's response tells the reader that he lacks a certain amount of social sensibility and is unable to recognize social cues. Gatsby misinterprets Mrs. Sloane's invitation and accepts the offer without realizing that she is simply being polite. Gatsby enthusiastically accepts the offer in hopes that he will see Daisy at the dinner and prove that he is worthy of being in her social circle.

“I feel far away from her,” he said. “It's hard to make her understand.” Daisy tries very hard to appear to be impressed by Gatsby's guests and by his party. The atmosphere at the party is subdued compared to the usual frivolity at Gatsby's parties however.

One autumn night, five years before, they had been walking down the street

Explanation:

It would take a while to research all the different types of communication - and is it narrowed down to technology or can it go back even to the stone age and how people drew pictures to communicate???

Which of the following is one way in which Francis Scott Key develops the "glory" of the American flag?
O He builds tension before revealing that the flag is still standing.
O He speaks explicitly of his own fears about dying.
O He describes the flag itself using dark, foreboding imagery.
O He lists several ways the flag has been used in recent history.

Answers

Answer:

A. He builds tension before revealing that the flag is still standing

Explanation:

When he wrote his poem, "Defence of Fort M'Henry," in which he described the events of the bombardment of Fort McHenry, Francis Scott Key had just witnessed the attack on Fort McHenry. In his poem, Key described the dreary and exciting atmosphere of the attack first before he revealed to the reader that despite it all, the flag was still standing. This developed the glory of the American flag in his poem because he was kind of saying that despite all the British's best attempts, the Americans' glorious flag was still there.

Then something resembling a little grey snake, about the thickness of a walking stick, coiled up out of the writhing middle, and wriggled in the air towards me—and then another.

Conciseness

The audience becomes impatient with a long speech. Hence, speech should be as concise as possible. However, it should not incomplete.

A famous singer recently came to give a talk to the students at your school about her life and work. Your head teacher has asked you to write a report about the talk and make suggestions for a future talk.

Answers

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Although there are no further specific references, we can comment on the following.

This is my report.

It is always interesting to know more details about the life of famous people. In this case, this female singer that gave a lecture about the life of a musician was interesting, although she talked in general terms. I think it would have been more interesting if she could have talked about the details of the music business for new musicians or the way she had to overcome adversities to become a popular artist.

I say this because there are many texts and references on the internet about the music business. However, there is such little information about the specifics, the details. And popular artists like her could be able to share good information with students about the details of the music business.

My suggestion is that we could invite these famous people but we should ask them to center their speech on specific issues so the talk could be useful. If they talk about general issues or about their lives, many books and pages already include their bios and general information.

We, as students, need more focused topics, that only listen to general information or the artist's public life that is already known.

The report should indicate how famous people can motivate students.

The report about the visit of the famous singer and his talk goes thus:

It was a privilege having a famous singer come to our school. He's a role model to some of us and someone that we look up to.

We're glad that he came and spoke to us about various issues and how we can be better in society. I believe more celebrities should be brought to the school. This will help the students to work harder as they'll want to become as famous as the person.

This motivation is vital for the growth and the development of the students.
