Brian's favorite thing was his laptop. He spent most of his day glued to his laptop, playing games, updating his blog, or watching movies, and he rarely spent time outside home with his friends or family. Since he would always keep to himself, his parents were worried about his social life, and one evening during dinner, they decided that they had had enough.
While he was busy playing an online game, his mom said, "Brian, you need to pack a bag with clothes and toiletries for the weekend. We're going camping tomorrow, and we're leaving early."
"Yeah sure, Mom," Brian said, chuckling, but not taking his eyes off the screen.
When his mom didn't respond, he looked up and noticed her serious face. He shut his laptop and gave her a disbelieving look.
"Mom, you can't be serious! I don't want to go camping in some forest without electricity or a network," Brian declared stubbornly.
"We are tired of seeing you glued to your laptop. You need to go outdoors and spend some time with us," his mom said and walked out of the room before he could respond.
The next day, at 5:30 in the morning, in spite of Brian's sleepy protests, his mom woke him up and pushed him into the shower. By 6:30, the family was in the car and ready to head out for the camp. Initially, Brian kept himself busy on his phone, but as they reached the outskirts of their town, the roads became surrounded by thick forests, and he couldn't help but put his phone aside to observe the pleasing scenery outside.
"Is it always so quiet and green out here?" Brian asked in wonder.
"Yes, it is, and maybe if you start coming out with us more often, you would enjoy such things," his father replied. Soon, they finally stopped at their camping spot.
Brian realized he wasn't getting an Internet signal, and he dumped his phone into his bag. He helped his parents set up camp, and in the evening, he gathered firewood so that his mom could cook dinner. This strange routine fascinated him, and he laughed his heart out when, during dinner, his parents shared their funny childhood stories. He was surprised to realize how much he didn't know about his parents. He was awestruck by the dazzling night sky and the sounds of insects. This was a new experience for him, and he was glad that his parents had forced him to go camping.

Read this excerpt: "Actually, time itself is neutral; it can be used either destructively or constructively. More and more I feel that the people of ill will have used time much more effectively than have the people of good will. We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people. Human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability; it comes through the tireless efforts of men willing to be co-workers with God, and without this hard work, time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation. We must use time creatively, in the knowledge that time is always ripe to do right. Now is the time to make real the promise of democracy and transform our pending national elegy into a creative psalm of brotherhood. Now is the time to lift our national policy from the quicksand of racial injustice to the solid rock of human dignity."
What is the central idea of the text? *

Now is the time to stand up against racial inequality
Now is the time to change the world
Now is the time to be silent
Now is the time to rely on the government
Which line of text best supports the central idea? *

"More and more I feel that the people of ill will have used time much more effectively than have the people of good will."
"Now is the time to make real the promise of democracy and transform our pending national elegy into a creative psalm of brotherhood."
"Actually, time itself is neutral"
"We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people."
Which sentence below would NOT belong in an objective summary of this excerpt? *

King states that good people who remain silent when bad things happen are as guilty as the bad people.
King argues that the current time is the time to demand real social change.
King believes that only hard work and brotherhood will result in the necessary changes that need to be made.
King states the government will need to apologize for its past misgivings to the people.
Which sentence below would accurately summarize the text? *

Now is the time for "bad people" to become allies of the forces of social stagnation; time is our ally.
Social justice is inevitable; all we need to do is get out of its way.
Because progress is never inevitable, now is the time that we as a people must work to change the course of racial injustice.
America should wait patiently for social justice.

Answer:

As we strive to improve conversations about race, racism, and racial justice in this country, the environment in which we’re speaking seems to be constantly shifting, which shows that these conversations are more important than ever. We’ve put together some advice on finding entry points based on research, experience, and the input of partners from around the country. This is by no means a complete list, but it is a starting point for moving these discussions forward.

Please note that while there are many reasons to communicate with various audiences about racial justice issues, this memo focuses on messaging with the primary goal of persuading them toward action. There are many times when people need to communicate their anger, frustration, and pain to the world and to speak truth to power. Doing so may not always be persuasive, but that obviously doesn’t make it any less important. Since we’re considering persuasion a priority goal in this memo, please consider the following advice through that lens.

The author intended to draw the reader's attention away from the process of making chocolate to the nature involved in chocolate.

b?

Answers

Answer:

The author intended to create irony by emphasizing how such a simple tree produces such a popular product.

Explanation:

Yes, the above is the likely reason why the author included the cacao tree details in  his excerpt. To him, even though people tends to love the chocolate, they don't have an idea why the product is popular and from which tree is the raw material for its production is gotten. To him, putting those details helps his reader to know that, the popular product is actually produced by a simple tree which is unknown but called Cacao.

100 points and brainlist An author writes the following paragraph for an argumentative essay:

In 2012, parenting organization Children Matter Most questioned 200 adults about television's influence on their families. 76 percent of the respondents admitted they had witnessed their children demonstrating improper or embarrassing behavior they felt originated from television. Examples ranged from offensive language to aggressiveness to age-inappropriate actions. Parents fingered reality shows, daytime talk shows, and adult-themed cartoons as the worst influences.

For which of the following claims does the paragraph best provide support? (5 points)

Group of answer choices

Television has three types of shows that affect children negatively.

Television is a bad influence on children.

Television offers good and bad programming for families.

Television provides entertainment for people of all ages.

Answers

Answer:

The answer is B. "Television is a bad influence on children."

Explanation:

The excerpt mainly focuses on the general idea that television has a bad influence on children, so I would say the best answer choice is "television has a bad influence on children."

This excerpt doesn't really specify three types of show, nor does it discuss any of the "good" elements or benefits of children's television viewing, it does discuss explicit content, but not in the sense that it provides entertainment for all ages.

- What are your thoughts now that you have finished the novel, The Giver? What do you think happened to the Community after Jonas Left? What do you think happens to Jonas and Gabriel? Explain why you believe that. What might be a possible theme to this story?

Answers

Answer:

The Giver ends with Jonas’s rejection of his community’s ideal of Sameness. He decides to rescue Gabriel and escape the community, and they grow steadily weaker as they travel through an unfamiliar wintery landscape. At the top of a hill, Jonas finds a sled and rides it down toward a community with lit windows and music. Lowry does not confirm whether the two survive, because the reader can either interpret the sled as a hallucination of Jonas’s dying mind, or as a fortunate coincidence. Upon first seeing the top of the hill, Jonas believes that he remembers the place, and it is “a memory of his own,” as opposed to one from the Giver. Because Jonas doesn’t have his own memories of snow, the meaning of this sentence is not obvious. This confusion could signify Jonas’s deterioration.
