Recordemos que los Aztecas eran excelentes agricultores, quienes cultivaban en sus "chinampas." Esas chinampas era pequeñas porciones de tierra junto o sobre los canales de agua que conectaban a la gran Tenochtitlán con otras ciudades cercanas como Tlatelolco, Mixcoatl, Coyoacán o Tlalpan.
