Answers

Answer:

When students write, there are several different types of structure they might follow. This lesson explores the classification-division text structure and also provides an example of how it works.

Writing With Structure

Let's say that your friend Calvin has just been asked to write a brief essay on different types of animals. He has decided that the best way to format his piece will be to divide the topic of animals into three subtopics that include mammals, reptiles, and birds. From there, Calvin plans to further divide each subtopic into categories that highlight attributes and examples of each type of animal. With this type of plan in place, Calvin prepares to write his essay using classification-division text structure.

Text Structure

Text structure refers to the way an author arranges information in his writing. Text structure enables authors to organize their thoughts as they write. It also helps the reader in that it provides a structure in which information can be found and understood while it's being read. There are several different types of text structure, including:

Chronological: discussing things in order

Cause and effect: explaining a cause and its results

Problem and solution: presenting a problem and offering a solution

Compare and contrast: discussing similarities and differences

Classification-division: sorting information into topics and categories

WILMA: (Politely) Good evening, Dennis and Sandra. I'm so glad you asked to speak with me about my work at the library. I am partially blind, so I volunteer to help children with visual disabilities learn to enjoy books, whether they are large print books, audiobooks, or books written in Braille. Many stay right until the library closes. Since many of my students cannot see the call numbers on the books, I put them away myself. Besides, I've read so many of these books myself that the library feels like a second home. Sometimes the library helpers forget about me, but I don't blame them. They want to go home after a long day, and the doors don't lock from the inside. The only problem I had was a couple of nights ago. I heard shoes squeaking and banging noises. When the noises stopped, I ran out the door. I'm sure it was just my imagination running wild.

Read this excerpt from the story The Mystery of the Missing Library Books:

"I am partially blind," Wilma explained. "I can only read books with large print or in Braille. I stay late on weeknights to run the Experience Reading Club. I help children with visual disabilities learn to enjoy books, whether they are large print books, audiobooks, or books written in Braille. Many of my students cannot see the call numbers on the books, so I put them away myself. Sometimes the librarian or library helper forgets about me, but that's not an issue because the doors don't lock from the inside. The only problem I had was a couple of nights ago. I heard shoes squeaking and banging noises. When the noises stopped, I ran out the door. The next morning, all of the recent releases were gone."

Bullies dont care what teachers say, You can Reprimand, Punish, Give Detention, Suspend. But they wont stop! No matter what you do, Bullies will always exist, Whether it's a 10 star school or a 3 star. Bullying is in many forms, Ranging from Physical assault and even sexual. There's actually no laws against bullying but it would be really helpful if it was illegal. An example was that of a man who harassed a young girl of African descent but was given only six months of jail time, received protection from the white liners and later became a detective himself. Wells encouraged African Americans to protect themselves.

From the text "The Death Penalty is a Step Back"
by Coretta Scott King
Which quote from the essay serves as the thesis/controlling idea statement?
Select one:

Morality apart, there are a number of practical reasons which form a powerful argument against capital punishment.

"Time and again we have witnessed the specter of mistakenly convicted people being put to death in the name of American criminal justice."

"The death penalty reflects an unwarranted assumption that the wrongdoer is beyond rehabilitation."

"An evil deed is not redeemed by an evil deed of retaliation."
The Death Penalty is a Step Back
by Coretta Scott King

1 Although I have suffered the loss of two family members by assassination, I remain firmly and unequivocally opposed to the death penalty for those convicted of capital offenses. An evil deed is not redeemed by an evil deed of retaliation. Justice is never advanced in the taking of a human life. Morality is never upheld by legalized murder. Morality apart, there are a number of practical reasons which form a powerful argument against capital punishment.
2 First, capital punishment makes irrevocable any possible miscarriage of justice. Time and again we have witnessed the specter of mistakenly convicted people being put to death in the name of American criminal justice. To those who say that, after all, this doesn’t occur too often, I can only reply that if it happens just once, that is too often. And it has occurred many times.
3 Second, the death penalty reflects an unwarranted assumption that the wrongdoer is beyond rehabilitation. Perhaps some individuals cannot be rehabilitated; but who shall make that determination? Is any amount of academic training sufficient to entitle one person to judge another incapable of rehabilitation?
4 Third, the death penalty is inequitable. Approximately half of the 711 persons now on death row are black. From 1930 through 1968, 53.5% of those executed were black Americans, all too many of whom were represented by court-appointed attorneys and convicted after hasty trials. The argument that this may be an accurate reflection of guilt and homicide trends instead of racist application of laws lacks credibility in light of a recent Florida survey which showed that persons convicted of killing whites were four times more likely to receive a death sentence than those convicted of killing blacks.
5 Proponents of capital punishment often cite a “deterrent effect” as the main benefit of the death penalty. Not only is there no hard evidence that murdering murderers will deter other potential killers, but even the “logic” of this argument defies comprehension. Numerous studies show that the majority of homicides committed in this country are acts of victim’s relatives, friends, and acquaintances in the “heat of passion.” What this strongly suggests is that rational consideration of future consequences is seldom a part of the killer’s attitude at the time he commits a crime.
6 The only way to break the chain of violent reaction is to practice nonviolence as individuals and collectively stop the death penalty through our laws and institutions.

Answers

I think it's C. "Long ago in London during a discussion with Mr. Vyshinsky, he told me there was no such thing as freedom for the individual in the world." Hope this helps!!

The sentence which is the example of anecdotal evidence is, “Long ago in London during a discussion with Mr. Vyshinsky, he told me there was no such things as freedom for the individual in the world.”

What is anecdotal evidence?

anecdotal evidence means the evidence which is based on personal observations, and doesn't required data to support the evidence.

Because Mr. Vyshinsky, tells about hos own personal observation about London, that there was no such things as freedom for the individual. So, anecdotal evidence does not required any other data to support the evidence it just stand independent to what the person tells about what happened, its their conclusion.

Hence the correct option is, “Long ago in London during a discussion with Mr. Vyshinsky, he told me there was no such things as freedom for the individual in the world.”

(1) The female mosquito is the one that bites (males feed on flower nectar). (2) She requires blood to produce eggs. (3) Her mouthparts are constructed so that they pierce the skin, literally sucking the blood out, and her saliva lubricates the opening. (4) It’s the saliva plus the injury to the skin that creates the stinging and irritation we associate with mosquito bites.

These types of feelings may typically include sadness, happiness, fear, anger, surprise, and disgust. According to the context of this question, the feeling of the person governs the perception of events and numerous mechanisms within the body, closely related to emotion.

I was getting my daughter ready for school. She can't tie knots but she loves her shoelaces to make extravagant bows. What is the theme?

Answers

Answer:

The theme is "It is possible to have great admiration for something that we do not know how to do."

Explanation:

According to the sentence shown above, we can see that the narrator states that her daughter loves her shoelaces, but they do not know how to tie a knot. This prevents her daughter from participating in what she loves, but that is not enough to diminish her admiration for the shoelaces. In this case, we can say that the theme of this sentence refers to the ability to maintain admiration for something that you do not know how to do and cannot participate.
