to learning about the true nature of release if Gabriel had not been involved? (The Giver)

Answers

I do think that him leaving the community was a good idea because if he stayed gave would be released. I think that jonas may have reacted similarly if him finding out about what releasing really meant did not involve gabe because it would change his whole perspective and probably anger him still the same. although I do feel like gabe being involved hit a nerve.

I hope this was helpful:)

I think Jonas did the right thing fleeing the community. Throughout the novel he makes certain choices that distinguish himself as an individual in contrast to the community which acts the same. By leaving, he allows for the people in the community to have access to the memories while the Giver is able to help the people cope. Through his decision to leave, he also saves Gabe.

1. How did the Magna Carta influence the writing of the Constitution?

2. Do you think that the present government effectively fixed the problems of the Roman Republic? Explain.

Answers

Answer:

1. With his conquest of England in 1066, William I secured for himself and his immediate successors a position of unprecedented power. He was able to dominate not only the country but also the barons who had helped him win it and the ecclesiastics who served the English church. He forced Pope Alexander II to be content with indirect control over the church in a land that the papacy hitherto had regarded as bound by the closest ties to Rome. William’s son Henry I—whose accession (1100) was challenged by his eldest brother, Robert, duke of Normandy—was compelled to make concessions to the nobles and clergy in the Charter of Liberties, a royal edict issued upon his coronation. His successor, Stephen (1135), whose hold on the throne was threatened by Henry I’s daughter Matilda, again issued a solemn charter (1136) with even more generous promises of good government in church and state. Matilda’s son Henry II also began his reign (1154) by issuing a solemn charter promising to restore and confirm the liberties and free customs that King Henry, his grandfather, had granted “to God and holy church and all his earls, barons and all his men.” There developed, in fact, through the 12th century a continuous tradition that the king’s coronation oath should be strengthened by written promises stamped with the king’s seal.

2.

 Rome needed money to run.

The Republic needed money to pay the legions, to build roads, sewers, aqueducts, and arenas, and to pay for the welfare programs that fed the poor.  To get this money Rome created a system called tax farmers.

A tax farmer was a person who bought the right from the Senate to tax all the people and business in a certain area.  The biggest problem with this system is that the senate didn't set up any controls on the tax farmers.  They didn't say how much taxes were, or who got taxed.  They left all that up to the tax farmer.

Tax farming was a business, and the tax farmers were in it to make a profit.  While most Romans were willing to pay taxes, and even allow the tax farmer some profit, many of the tax farmers went way beyond what people expected.  Many of them saw this as a way to get rich.  Plus, since the tax farmer decided who got taxed and who didn't, you could bribe the tax farmer to make your taxes low or maybe tax your competitors out of business, or if you had enough bribe money, maybe both.  If a Roman citizen didn't pay their taxes at whatever amount the tax farmer set, you and your entire family could be sold into slavery.

Even with the tax farmer system, the Roman government wasn't getting enough money and Rome was going broke.

2.  Elected officials were corrupt.

Under Roman law you could pay someone to vote for you.  So rich people could actually buy their way into the senate.  Once in the Senate, there were many ways to get huge amounts of money.  Remember the tax farmer?  Since they bought the position from the Senate, the Senate set the amount it cost and decided who actually got the job.  Plus the Senate decided who got to build the roads, arenas etc.  So construction companies bribed the Senate to get the construction contracts.  Finally since the Senate made all the laws, people could bribe senators to make laws that they wanted.  The Government of the Republic was rife with corruption and graft.

3.  Rome was riddled with crime.  Criminals ran wild in Rome.  Since there was no police force, there was no one to stop them.  It was not safe to walk the streets without a guard.  Wealthy Romans hired guards and even built their own small armies to protect their homes and families.  This led to further problems when the guards of one wealthy family fought the guards of another family over insults or business territories.  The Senate couldn't do anything since there was no money to hire police or even create a militia.

There were other problems in Rome to add to these.  Senators didn't trust each other, and they really didn't trust the legions.  They even passed laws making it illegal for a legion to enter Rome.  Rome was a disaster.  The people of Rome were tired of the mess and wanted the problems solved and the corruption ended.  Julius Caesar told the people of Rome that he could solve all of Rome's problems.

Explanation:

Magna Carta exercised a strong influence both on the United States Constitution and on the constitutions of the various states. ... Magna Carta was widely held to be the people's reassertion of rights against an oppressive ruler, a legacy that captured American distrust of concentrated political power

Magna Carta, or “Great Charter,” signed by the King of England in 1215, was a turning point in human rights. ... It established the right of widows who owned property to choose not to remarry, and established principles of due process and equality before the law.

What is Washington's main agriculture?

With 70% of the nation's produce going to Washington's apple sector, the state's farms support a diversified agricultural economy. Apples, blueberries, hops, pears, spearmint oil, and sweet cherries are all produced in the most quantity in Washington. The state ranks second in the nation for the production of apricots, asparagus, grapes, potatoes, and raspberries.

With 1,000 wineries, Washington is the second-largest wine producer in the country. In 1766, Washington moved to farm cereals, notably wheat, as a cash crop after realizing that tobacco was not a viable crop. Despite being a desert, irrigation has made the state's central region of Washington the most productive agricultural region.

Answer:under the terms of the treaty Mexico ceded to the United States approximately 525,000 square

Explanation:

The main effect was what to do with Texas. It later became a slave state that shifted the balance of power in congress so a free state had to be added to the union. In one or two paragraphs, compare and contrast the fall of the Roman Empire with the fall of the Byzantine Empire. Describe at least one major similarity and one major difference. Make sure you focus on how the two empires fell rather than on general similarities and differences between the empires.

Answers

Answer:

When Rome declined, the western half of the empire formed the Byzantine Empire. The eastern half became the Holy Roman Empire. Because the Byzantine Empire came from the fall of the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire had many similarities with Rome. In addition to these similarities, there were also several differences between these two empires. This includes culture, religion, and location. These similarities and differences helped shape the Byzantine Empire into what it became.

One similarity between these two Empires was the form of entertainment that took place in these cultures. Both the Byzantine Empire and the Roman Empire enjoyed watching gladiator fights at a big stadium. (Rautman) The people of the Roman Empire held these events at the Coliseum. In the Byzantine Empire, there was the Circus Maximus, another stadium. The use of this arena was the same as the Coliseum in Rome. Gladiator fights and chariot races were held here. It is estimated that 50,000 to 350,000 people, or approximately a quarter of the population of the city could fit inside. It has also been calculated that the arena of the Coliseum would fit 12 times into the Circus Maximus. (Crowther)

A difference between the Byzantine and Roman Empire was their form of religion. (Salisbury)In Rome the people worshipped Jupiter as the father of all gods. Jupiter and his wife Juno had many children that were also gods. For example, Mars, the god of war was a child of Jupiter. Mercury, the messenger god was another son of Jupiter and his wife. This meant that Rome was a polytheistic society. They believed in more than one god. The Byzantine Empire, on the other hand, was a monotheistic society. This meant that they believed in only one god. They mainly followed the teachings of Christianity. (Ermatinger)

In conclusion, the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire were unique in their own was. Both civilizations rose out of fallen cultures. While the Roman Empire rose from the Roman Republic, the Byzantine Empire was established because of the fall of the Roman Empire. Despite these differences, the two cultures had similar aspects in culture, geography, science and technology. Some of these included government, religion, and location. These characteristics helped develop the two great civilizations and influence the world today.
