Answers

Answer:

A. Indian men had hundreds of wives.

Explanation:

The book "A Visit to Europe" by T.N. Mukharji is a 'tourist's" take on how his nationality and race were perceived by the English people during his trip to England. The book details how the English people think of Indian society, women, and life in India in general.

And according to the narrator, the Britishers hold several misguided beliefs about Indian life. Not only did they believe that Indians are barbaric and that women are mistreated, and inferior to them, they also hold the belief that the Indian marriage system allows men to have multiple wives. Therefore, they believed that Indian men had hundreds of wives.

Thus, the correct answer is option A.

Read the following passage carefully before you choose your answer.

The following is an excerpt from an autobiography written in the third person by Henry Adams, a prominent Bostonian.

The chief charm of New England was harshness of contrasts and extremes of sensibilitya cold that froze the blood, and a heat that boiled itso that the pleasure of hatingone's self if no better victim offeredwas not its rarest amusement; but the charm was a true and natural child of the soil, not a cultivated weed of the ancients. The violence of the contrast was real and made the strongest motive of education. The double exterior nature gave life its relative values. Winter and summer, cold and heat, town and country, force and freedom, marked two modes of life and thought, balanced like lobes of the brain. (5)Town was winter confinement, school, rule, discipline; straight, gloomy streets, piled with six feet of snow in the middle; frosts that made the snow sing under wheels or runners; thaws when the streets became dangerous to cross; society of uncles, aunts, and cousins who expected children to behave themselves, and who were not always gratified; above all else, winter represented the desire to escape and go free. Town was restraint, law, unity. Country, only seven miles away, was liberty, diversity, outlawry, the endless delight of mere sense impressions given by nature for nothing, and breathed by boys without knowing it.

Boys are wild animals, rich in the treasures of sense, but the New England boy had a wider range of emotions than boys of more equable climates. He felt his nature crudely, as it was meant. (10)To the boy Henry Adams, summer was drunken. Among senses, smell was the strongestsmell of hot pine-woods and sweet-fern in the scorching summer noon; of new-mown hay; of ploughed earth; of box hedges; of peaches, lilacs, syringas1; of stables, barns, cow-yards; of salt water and low tide on the marshes; nothing came amiss. Next to smell came taste, and the children knew the taste of everything they saw or touched, from pennyroyal and flagroot2 to the shell of a pignut and the letters of a spelling-bookthe taste of A-B, AB, suddenly revived on the boy's tongue sixty years afterwards. Light, line, and color as sensual pleasures, came later and were as crude as the rest. The New England light is glare, and the atmosphere harshens color. (15)The boy was a full man before he ever knew what was meant by atmosphere; his idea of pleasure in light was the blaze of a New England sun. His idea of color was a peony, with the dew of early morning on its petals. The intense blue of the sea, as he saw it a mile or two away, from the Quincy hills; the cumuli3 in a June afternoon sky; the strong reds and greens and purples of colored prints and children's picture-books, as the American colors then ran; these were ideals. The opposites or antipathies, were the cold grays of November evenings, and the thick, muddy thaws of Boston winter. With such standards, the Bostonian could not but develop a double nature. (20)Life was a double thing. After a January blizzard, the boy who could look with pleasure into the violent snow-glare of the cold white sunshine, with its intense light and shade, scarcely knew what was meant by tone. He could reach it only by education.

Winter and summer, then, were two hostile lives, and bred two separate natures. Winter was always the effort to live; summer was tropical license.
(1918)

1Syringas are ornamental shrubs.
2Pennyroyal is a mint plant; flagroot is the root of a particular herb.
3Cumuli are thick clouds.

Prompt: Can robots can replace real animals for pets?

Intro: Have you ever thought about what it would be like if you had a robot dog or cat? Well I have. I honestly do not like the idea of having a robot for a pet, I mean even if I loved the pet it would never love me back. In the passage, Robotic Pets, the author explains what it would be like to have a robot pet. However the question still remains, whether or not we can replace real animals with robots pets.

Body 1: Here I will be explaining how in some ways we can actually replace real animals with robots for pets. In source one it says, "The researchers found that loneliness scores decreased in the Paro group, but increased in the activities group" and "Additionally, at the retirement home where the study was conducted, an activities coordinator frequently brought her real pet dog to the facilities to interact with the residents. The researchers noticed that the residents touched and interacted with Paro more than they touched the real dog." This shows how in an elderly home, people might be scared of real animals, and to support this it also says, "Often residents were unable to talk to or touch the dog because the dog could choose who it interacted with, whereas the robot could be put on the lap of all residents and would respond to them.” Another study at the University of Washington revealed that people in nursing homes preferred robotic pets because they would not have to worry about them if they had to be admitted to the hospital or that they couldn't take care of a living pet." So as it says in the text robot pets are more convenient to own. As to how they cant choose who they would rather interact with, instead they are put into the lap of the residents and would also respond to the elderly.

Body 2: Now for how in other ways robots can never replace real animals as pets. In source 2 it mentions, "It’s the knowledge of conscious two-way giving that makes the pet-owner relationship meaningful." This sentence means that, even if we love the robots there is really no way they can actually love us back. In source 2 it also says, "Unless we want to get into the question of whether a robot will ever be capable of a conscious experience, that kind of giving is something a robot can’t supply, no matter how well it imitates the outward appearance of life." This backs up my statement up above, how robots will never truly have a conscious experience and can never actually have feelings.

Conclusion: Robots may or may not actually replace real animals as pets. What do you think, now that you have read the good things and the bad things about replacing robots for pets, do you think you would be ok with replacing real animals with robots? Now next time your parents take you somewhere, ask them if you can get a pet. This may be your only chance too have a real animal as a pet!

Write a short summary of this story.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego

Proud King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold and set the huge idol in the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. He called many important people to come and help him dedicate the image.

When all had gathered before the image, the herald announced the royal decree. "It is commanded, O people, when you hear the music, you shall fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up, and whoever does not fall down to worship shall in the same hour be cast into a burning fiery furnace."

The musicians began to play. When the people heard the music, they fell down in fear to worship the image.

Soon it was discovered that certain Jews, whom the king had set in charge over the affairs of the province of Babylon, did not bow down and regard the king's wishes.

The king ordered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego to explain their actions. "Is it true that you do neither serve my gods nor worship the golden image I have set up?" the king questioned with indignant anger. "Now be ready when you hear the music to bow down and worship the image I have made. However, if you do not, you shall be cast the same hour into a burning fiery furnace. Who do you think will save you from certain death?"

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego courageously replied, "Our God is able to deliver us from the burning furnace, and He will deliver us out of your hand. If not, be it known to you, we will neither serve thy gods nor worship the golden image."

Full of fury, Nebuchadnezzar commanded the furnace heated seven times hotter than before. He called his mightiest men to bind and cast the three men into the furnace. Because the king's command was so urgent and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flames killed the men who threw the men into the furnace.

Astonished, the king suddenly rose up and said, "Did we not cast three bound men into the fire?"

"Yes, king," was the answer.

"Then why do I see four men loose, walking in the midst and they are not hurt? The fourth is like the Son of God."

Nebuchadnezzar came closer to the furnace to speak to the men. "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, servants of the most high God, come out!"

As the three men came out of the fire, the people could all see that no harm had become them. The hair was not even singed, their coats were not scorched, nor did they smell of fire.

Nebuchadnezzar humbly said, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, Who hath sent His angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him. He had changed the king's word and yielded their bodies that they might not serve or worship any god, except their own God."

He then made a new decree. "No one should speak against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. No other God can deliver us."

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were awarded a higher office in the province of Babylon.

Answers

Answer:

King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold of his god and set it in the plain of Dura. He stated that everyone has to fall and worship the god's golden image when the musicians started to play. If someone did not worship it, he or she would be burnt in a furnace.

The majority of the people obeyed, but there were three-man, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who the king set in charge over the affairs of the province of Babylon, which did not worship it because they believed in a different god. The king gave them the last opportunity to do as he told, but they refused and claimed that their god would protect them, sending them out of it. As a result, they were sent to the furnace, but they did not burn. They appeared walking amongst the people along with his god.

From that day on, the king stated that no one should speak against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Also,  the king awarded them with a higher office in the province of Babylon.

Explanation:

In this summary, the main points are the king's order to worship his god represented in a golden image and the outcome that the three-man disobeying him had. These three men refusing to worship the king's god show him that his punishment could do anything to them because they were protected by their god. As a result, the king changed his mind and stated that no one should speak against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego's god.
