what is the main idea of The Lottery by sherliey jackson ?

Answers

Answer 1

Hey Mate!!

Well, Sherliey Jackson issues a warning to be an independent thinker in her story “The Lottery.” Everyone goes along with the lottery merely because it is a tradition. No one ever thinks about what is really happening, each year they are killing one of their loved ones. People gather on what seems to be an ordinary sunny day: the men discuss crops and taxes, the women gossip, and the children “broke into boisterous play.” There is no indication that anything terrible is about to happen. The lottery is an annual tradition, with specific rituals observed. It happens on "June 27", Mr. Summers oversees it, a specific box is used to hold the slips of paper. The box is falling apart, but although people talk about replacing it, “no one liked to upset even as much tradition as was represented by the black box.” The town is heavily influenced by custom. No one evaluates the true purpose and the effect of the lottery.

Hope this helps <3!!

Answer 2

Explanation:

Okay so i just recently read this.

So the main idea of The Lottery is that you cant trust anyone. In the village or town, they all have a celebration(event) Each year or so. Only about 100 or so people live in that town. If you read the story there are hints they are preparing for something big, children gathering rocks, adults having big meals and talking to one another who they with to win the lottery. At first you would think the children are just playing with rocks, but theyre preparing for more. Families hold dearly to theyre beloved ones. Everyone puts theyre man into the lottery box for who they want most to win. 5 go up on stage and the decide who is the winner by further reading. It comes down to a important man in the town. Everyone grabs a rock and chucks it at him and he dies.

In my opinion, In conclusion the story talks about not trusting people and to be careful with who you are with, even family can take you out.

(its a very sad and odd story but meaningful in its own way if you really read the short story. I had to read it in class)

Suppose an author fails to develop a character fully within a story. What
is the most likely outcome?
A.Readers won't care about what happens the character,
B.Readers will assume that the undeveloped character is really important.
C.Readers will develop strong negative feelings about the character,
D.Readers will keep reading to find out what happens to the character

Answers

Answer:

D

Explanation:

The unknow will make the reader feel a great deal of suspense and will most likely be eager to know what comes next

(btw if that was the wrong answer, I am terribly sorry)

Answer: A

Explanation:

The most likely outcome if an author fails to fully develop a character within a story is that readers won't care about what happens to the character (option A). When a character is not fully developed, readers may find it difficult to connect with or have any emotional investment in the character. This lack of connection can result in readers not caring about the character's outcome or what happens to them in the story. It's important for authors to create well-rounded and relatable characters to keep readers engaged and interested in their story.

Read the story summary.
What kind of nonfiction source did the author most
likely use to help make the elements in the story
realistic?
While visiting a meteor crater, a teenager comes across
a meteorite that inspires him to become an astronaut.
O an animated film about a group's voyage through
the galaxy
O a blog where people speculate about the existence
of aliens
O a popular television series set in the far reaches of
space
O a government website on space exploration

Answers

The correct answer is D. A government website on space exploration

Explanation:

Non-fictional sources are completely based on facts and objective evidence, this means, they accurately describe reality and natural phenomena. This occurs websites and other sources created by the government because these are based on scientific evidence. According to this, the non-fictional source the author more likely use is "A government website on space exploration" because this is the only non-fictional source from the options, and it is adequate to integrate realistic elements about space as this is the main point in the story.

Excerpt from Dombey and Son
Charles Dickens

Dombey sat in the corner of the darkened room in the great arm-chair by the bedside, and Son lay tucked up warm in a little basket bedstead, carefully disposed on a low settee immediately in front of the fire and close to it, as if his constitution were analogous to that of a muffin, and it was essential to toast him brown while he was very new. Dombey was about eight-and-forty years of age. Son about eight-and-forty minutes. Dombey was rather bald, rather red, and though a handsome well-made man, too stern and pompous in appearance, to be prepossessing. Son was very bald, and very red, and though (of course) an undeniably fine infant, somewhat crushed and spotty in his general effect, as yet. On the brow of Dombey, Time and his brother Care had set some marks, as on a tree that was to come down in good time-remorseless twins they are for striding through their human forests, notching as they go-while the countenance of Son was crossed with a thousand little creases, which the same deceitful Time would take delight in smoothing out and wearing away with the flat part of his scythe, as a preparation of the surface for his deeper operations.
