Which of the following is a difference in the way of life between someone in a rural area and someone in an urban area?
A. Rural areas have a lot of industry, and urban areas have very little industry.
B. People in rural areas probably take a bus or subway to work, and people in urban areas generally drive to work.
C. People in urban areas like trees and grass, and people in rural areas do not.
D. People in an urban area might take a bus or subway to and from work, and people in a rural area probably drive to and from work.

Answers

D. People in an urban area might take a bus or subway to and from work, and people in a rural area probably drive to and from work.

D.) People in an urban area might take a bus or subway to and from work, and people in a rural area probably drive to and from work.

The reasoning behind my answer is simple. One representation of the word urban would be a city, and a rural area is quieter like out in the country. In rural areas you don't see subways or busses whereas there isn't that large of a space to require busses because rural areas are like small towns or just off in the country. Also if urban is represented by a city then it would make sense that the answer would be D because there are busses in large cities. Also rural areas usually are small meaning it would not only be easy to walk to a destination in a rural area, but it would would also be even easier to drive. After all, why would you need to wait for a bus or a train when you could just drive a short distance to the destination.

Hope this helps.

In the late 1700s, many pioneers started moving into the Ohio Valley. The impact this white movement had on the Native American that already lived in the Ohio valley was that "The Native Americans were forced to move west of the Mississippi River."

At the end of the 18th. century, white people started to move west and settled in the territories that formerly belonged to many Native American Indian tribes. Tribes in the Ohio River Valley were displaced due to the establishing of white Americans that had a different culture and tradition. These Native American Indians were displaced to other land and had to move further west to keep their own rituals, customs, and traditions.

Why does the narrator say, ''the Emancipation Proclamation is the second Declaration of Independence

Answers

Answer:

Because the proclamation of emancipation freed a portion of the population that was being oppressed, just as the declaration of independence sought to free the people from oppression.

Explanation:

The emancipation proclamation was issued after the civil war, abolishing slavery across the country and freeing African Americans from the oppression they suffered when they were slaves.

In this case, the emancipation proclamation can be compared to the declaration of independence because it stands against a tyrannical system that made blacks submissive to whites, similarly, the declaration of independence tried to prevent an oppressive system between the Americans and the English.

meaning of Abraham Lincoln definition on democracy

Answers

Answer:

Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the USA and has his own definition on democracy that is "Government of the people, by the people, for the people".

According to Abraham Lincoln, people of the country comes first before any government officials and they are superior as well as most important pillars of the democracy. So he said "Government of the people" means government is made of people which come from the common people without any biasness; "by the people" means to choose a government will be the decision of people of the country and no one else; and "for the people" means government will always take decisions in the favor of its people.

Write an argumentative essay on the topic below:
Should America be a melting pot or a salad bowl?
Your essay should include an introduction, at least three body paragraphs ( two paragraphs supporting your position and one that presents a counter-claim and refutation), and a conclusion.

Answers

Answer:

As children in elementary school, we were told that America is one big “melting pot.” The “melting pot” metaphor is used to describe how immigrants who come to America eventually become assimilated into American culture, thus creating multiple cultures that have blended into one.

Then, as we got older, we entered the debate of determining if America is a “melting pot” or a “salad bowl.” The “salad bowl” metaphor is a different view describing that immigrants who come to America combine their cultures with others, but still retain their own cultural identity. Basically, America is one big integration of unique, distinct cultures.

So which is it? The debate between these two metaphors is constant and depends on how someone views the world and the United States.

These two metaphors are used to describe America’s multiculturalism. The United States is home to immigrants from all over the world, which has resulted in such a high amount of multiculturalism. Immigrants are constantly coming to America and bringing their unique cultures with them.

In reality, the metaphor of a “melting pot” is no longer useful. Instead, America is more closely a “salad bowl.” We are all together, as one, but we also all have distinct cultures. Chinese-American citizens still celebrate the Chinese New Year. Indian-Americans still celebrate Diwali. And Mexican-Americans still celebrate The Day of the Dead. The list could go on and on. So, yes, they are American, but they still celebrate and practice their own culture.

On the other hand, America has become a “melting pot” in some aspects. Many cultures celebrate American holidays, even if it is not part of their own culture. For example, many non-Christian families who do not celebrate Christmas still partake in the exchange of gifts on this holiday. This could be termed as some cultures becoming “Americanized,” that is beginning to act as “Americans” do.

On top of that, the majority of immigrants from other countries that come to the United States do assimilate in the language area. Although there is no official language declared by the federal government, English is the most spoken language in the United States, as well as the official language in 31 states. Therefore, most immigrants either come to the United States knowing English, or learn it once they settle down. There has been heavy controversy over speaking different languages in the United States. You may be familiar with the saying: “You’re in America so you should speak English.” Many videos have surfaced on the Internet of Americans criticizing people from other countries for not speaking English in the United States. This shows that there is somewhat of an “expectation” for other cultures to learn English if they chose to live in the United States. This isn’t necessarily correct, but it is a popular viewpoint in the states.

Read the entry on Jonas Salk from Compton's Encyclopedia/The Britannica School Edition, and answer the question beneath the text.Compton's EncyclopediaJonas Salk (1914-1995). For the first half of the 20th century, poliomyelitis, also known as infantile paralysis, was one of the most dreaded diseases to attack young people. By 1955 American physician and researcher Jonas Salk had developed a vaccine that almost eradicated the disease in the United States and other developed countries.Jonas Edward Salk was born in New York City on October 28, 1914. He graduated from the City College of New York in 1934 and earned his doctorate in medicine from New York University's College of Medicine in 1939. While in medical school he had worked with Thomas Francis Jr. on killed-virus immunology studies. In 1942 he joined a group at the University of Michigan working on a vaccine against influenza. The vaccine was perfected in 1953.In 1947 Salk became associate professor of bacteriology and head of the Virus Research Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. There he began working on the polio vaccine. Three viruses caused polio, and a vaccine had to be effective against all of them. By 1952 Salk had developed such a vaccine and conducted field tests on children. His findings were published in 1953, and a mass field test was done the next year.On April 12, 1955, the vaccine was released for use in the United States. In 1957 Salk was named professor of experimental medicine at Pittsburgh, and in 1963 he went to San Diego as head of the Institute (later named the Salk Institute) for Biological Studies. In 1977 Salk was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He died on June 23, 1995, in La Jolla, California.Answer the following question based on the Compton's Encyclopedia reading:What was one of the challenges Dr. Salk faced in his attempt to create a polio vaccine? Dr. Salk did not have enough money to pay for his research and supplies. Dr. Salk had to create one vaccine that was effective against three different viruses. Dr. Salk had to convince government officials to allow him to test the vaccine. Dr. Salk's idea for a vaccine was not supported by other scientists and physicians. Can you help me please!
