What do you think happened to the Time Traveller? Give evidence from the text to back up your answer

Answers

Answer 1

Hello. You did not enter the text to which your question refers. However, when researching this question, I found that you are referring to "The Time Machine" a short story written by HG Wells.

In this story, the main character who is called the Time Traveler builds a time machine and decides to show it to his friends. At the time of the demonstration, the time machine disappears with him inside and reappears hours later, and when the time traveler leaves it, he is completely exhausted, dizzy, dirty and looking down. In that case, what happened to him?

Well, the time machine took him to 802.701 AD where he lived a dangerous and deadly adventure, having to fight to survive and recover the time machine, which had been hidden by some inhabitants of the place where he ended up. When he managed to recover the time machine, he tried to return home, but kept going to random places, where he was attacked many times, until he was able to get home.

Answer:

Countries have to have rules about artificial intelligence.

Explanation:

Science is often defined inadequately as “an organized body of knowledge.” This would make cookbooks, Sears, Roebuck catalogues, and telephone books science, which they are not. Sometimes science is defined simply as rationality, but that would make much of theology and metaphysics science, which they are not. Rationality is logical consistency, lack of contradiction. It is to be distinguished from reasonableness, the quality of a mind open to arguments and evidence opposed to its beliefs: a willingness to reconsider. Rationalists can be quite unreasonable or dogmatic. Rationalist metaphysicians and theologians are often certain about premises which come from intuition or revelation. Even paranoiacs may be thought of as rationalists, for they are commonly most rigorous in reasoning. But their premises, which they cling to in spite of all evidence, are absurd.

WHAT SCIENCE IS

Science is empirical, rational, general, and cumulative; and it is all four at once. Science is empirical in that all its conclusions are subject to test by sense experience. Observation is the base on which science rests, but scientific observation is more than keeping one’s eyes open. It is observation made by qualified observers under controlled conditions of those things which confirm or disconfirm, verify or refute a theory. Sherlock Holmes* could tell by the stains on a vest what a man had eaten for breakfast. From a number of such observations he arrived at a theory about why and how a particular crime was committed. This procedure is excellent for detection but insufficient for science, because it yields only knowledge of particular events. Science would go on to ask why and how crime, not a particular crime, is committed. Science uses facts to test general theories and general theories to make predictions about particular facts.

Scientific observations may be made of things as they exist, like the color of an apple or the temperature of the air, or it may be made of what results from an experiment. An experiment is the deliberate manipulation of conditions in order to bring about what we want to observe. If we want to test the hypothesis that a new plastic can withstand two hundred pounds of pressure without crumbling, we may have to create a situation in which such pressure is applied to a piece of the plastic, because it is unlikely that the situation already exists anywhere in the world, or if it does, that all other factors are kept constant. In some sciences, like astronomy, we do not sufficiently control the subject matter to experiment on it—although we do control the conditions of observation—and we distinguish those sciences from others, like chemistry, in which experiment is possible, by calling the latter “experimental sciences.”

Although all scientific thought ultimately rests on observation, there are vast portions of it which are entirely rational: analysis of the meaning of terms, deductions from existent theories, explorations of the logical relations among concepts and among theories. Logic is applied to science constantly because logic contains the rules of valid thinking. The application of mathematics is often thought, erroneously, to be an index of the status of any science. Of course, the more it can be applied usefully within a science, the more advanced the science. For mathematics functions both as a language in which scientific laws are stated, giving them the utmost precision, elegance, and economy, and as the basis of measurement. Many of the most significant advances in physics, astronomy, and chemistry have depended on advances in and application of mathematics. Without calculus the work of Isaac Newton would have been impossible. Yet great scientific work in other fields, performed by men like Pasteur, Darwin, and Pavlov (with whose names pasteurization, evolution, and conditioned response in psychology are associated), has used little or no mathematics. In the final sentence of the first paragraph, the authors choose to use the word “absurd” in order to demonstrate that even sound premises can lead to irrational conclusions demonstrate that even sound premises can lead to irrational conclusions A argue that evidence that seems illogical should not be considered by scientists argue that evidence that seems illogical should not be considered by scientists B emphasize a previous distinction between rationality and reasonableness emphasize a previous distinction between rationality and reasonableness C imply that too much rigor can lead to nonsensical inferences imply that too much rigor can lead to nonsensical inferences D convey disdain for those who display uncertainty about their premises

Los Angeles as a literary landscape has long been the territory of gritty detective stories and tragic or comedic tales of the glittering denizens of Hollywood. However, the area is also home to quite a few novelists who explore dilemmas of the human heart occurring in lesser-known parts of the region. Michelle Huneven’s novel Blame, which tells of the personal price extracted for a random event, plays out in three environments unfamiliar to most readers: a woman’s prison, the subculture of Alcoholics Anonymous, and the old-money enclaves of Altadena and Pasadena, which have changed very little during the decades of the metropolitan area’s explosive growth.

Prejudice causes people to do bad things; Yolen shows this through the experiences of her characters who were mistreated for what they believed in and for being Jewish.

Answers

Answer:

True

Explanation:

I believe you are referring to the book "The Devil's Arithmetic" written by Jane Yolen. In this book, we can, in fact, recognize the harmful effects of prejudice, where prejudice against Jews causes concentration camps to be created, where Jews suffer the greatest ill-treatment just because they do not abandon their beliefs.

In this book we got to know a girl named Hanna who belongs to a Jewish family that lives in New York. Hanna does not understand the impotence that the family gives to the experiences they have had in the past and is bored when they start talking about holocaust, Nazism and anti-Semitism. However, she is transported to the past and goes to Poland dominated by Nazi Germany. Hanna is captured, taken to a concentration camp where she suffers everything that the Jews suffered. This makes her understand the importance of these stories, especially of the survivors.

Answers

Answer:

I have no clue. I have never in my life watched Twilight Zone.

Answer:

True

Explanation:

In reality, Monsters on Maple Street is simply another name for Monsters are Due on Maple Street. That was Episode 22 of Season One of the Twilight Zone, which aired on March 4, 1960.

Here is the opening narration from the episode:

Maple Street, U.S.A., late summer. A tree-lined little world of front porch gliders, barbecues, the laughter of children, and the bell of an ice cream vendor. At the sound of the roar and the flash of light, it will be precisely 6:43 P.M. on Maple Street...This is Maple Street on a late Saturday afternoon. Maple Street in the last calm and reflective moment—before the monsters came.

And here is the closing narration from the episode:

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices...to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill...and suspicion can destroy...and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own—for the children and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

The Power of 'Like' PART B: Which detail from the text best supports the answer to Part A?

Answers

I have found this question online. The answer options are the following:

A. "What's more, viewing posts with a lot of likes activates the reward system in our brain. It also can lower the viewer's self control. And posts related to alcohol may encourage teens to drink." (Paragraph 3)

B. "Positive responses to a teen's own photos... tell teens that their friends appreciate the material they's posting." (Paragraph 12)

C. "Teens should keep in mind, Glenski cautions, that just because a post is popular doesn't mean it is a quality post." (Paragraph 21)

D. "More posts about alcohol appeared on Ins.tagr.am and Sn.apch.at than on F.aceb.ook. Boyle suspects that this is because fewer parents, professors and other older adults use Ins.tagr.am and Sn.apch.at." ( Paragraph 28)

Answer:

The detail from the text which best supports the answer to Part A is:

A. "What's more, viewing posts with a lot of likes activates the reward system in our brain. It also can lower the viewer's self control. And posts related to alcohol may encourage teens to drink." (Paragraph 3)

Explanation:

This question concerns the article "The Power of Like" by Alison Pearce Stevens. Part A asks us what the central idea of the article is. Stevens discusses as the central idea how receiving likes on social media has the power to impact the behavior of teenagers.

According to the article, a popular post, for instance, creates this ideal of what is cool, of what should be done. If posts with alcohol are popular, they may influence teens to drink. However, the most direct impact comes from the likes teens receive in their own posts. It is a simple action that ends up activating the reward system in their brains.

Answers

Answer:

The answer is correct.

La cena estaba preparada. The past participle used as an adjective is preparada.

Explanation:

Verbs in past participle working as adjectives end with ado or ido, like preparada, and they usually have before them the verb to be (estar).

The past participle used as an adjective modifies the noun dinner (cena). Notice that we can replace this adjective with another to alter the state of dinner. For example, we can say, la cena estaba congelada (dinner was frozen).

Also, preparada coincides in number and person with the noun that it is modifying. La cena is a singular feminine noun, and the correct adjective form for it is the one ending in ada, which in this case is preparada.
