Answer: A descriptive analysis examining the effect of geography on art

Explanation:

The passage provided is from a book published in the 1980s, and it presents a descriptive analysis of the effect of geography on art. The article doesn´t depict the triumph of local arts over colonialism, but how local art survived through the vestiges of the native pictorial tradition in the maps created by local communities for the colonizers. Although ideas about the ethical issues surrounding colonization can arise from the article, that´s not its main idea. Art history is the theme of the article, but it doesn´t promote it as a field of study. Although the historical developments in indigenous arts are part of the article, it´s not its main topic.

Answer: Humdrum doesn't belong here because it is a word that is used to show lack of motivation or variety.

Sonorous: Word that is used to describe something loud or thundering(?) you obviously can notice that the other words are used to describe something that is physical/ material as the body of a person.

Posh: A fancy word for elegant, elegant doesn't fit when you are trying to salute someone, you can't said "Posh! the day is beautiful".

Careen: Word used to tell that a car is out of the street, the others words are used to describe an object, like cups or boats, big containers.

Forage:   Is something related to animals/ people, search widely for food or provisions, the other words are synonyms of persuade( convince others to do something for you).

This one is hard ! I will said that is "Shamble" because this one need to be next to a pronoun to point that this character is moving in a slow, heavy way when the others doesn't need it.

Serif: Word use it to describe the slight projection finishing off a stroke of a letter in certain typefaces.

Lately, there does not seem to be a clear line determining what we can and cannot joke about. For example, there is a lot of humor out there that expresses hatred of women. This kind of humor has frightening impacts. Dr. Thomas Ford, a psychologist from Western Carolina University, ran a study of such humor. He found a direct link between the enjoyment of these jokes and related behavior. People who enjoy humor that is hateful to women, the study reports, also show a greater willingness to discriminate against women. It's not honest to say it's "just a joke." The impacts are very real.

Which sentence BEST summarizes the paragraph?

A. Dr. Ford's study showed that people who enjoy hateful jokes about women are more likely to treat women badly.

B. Dr. Ford's study showed that there is a lot of humor on the internet right now that shows a hatred of women.

C. People who say they are just making some jokes are not telling the truth.

It is great being a teenager in South Africal

Answers

Answer:

this is solely coming from a south african teenager who's no longer living in south africa. i will write this from my own perspective just so you know.

Explanation:

PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTINUING:

This is coming solely from my own perspective of south Africa and I how ultimately imagine teenagers to behave like/what they would typically do!!!

Being a teenager in South Africa is quite stressful but exciting. You have got so much ahead of you, really. From all the countless possibilities of hanging out with friends, all the way to pursuing your dream career. South Africa is undeniably a beautiful diverse place to thrive. Diversity is everywhere, with millions of people from all ethnicities. In all honesty, it is one of the best places for teenagers of all ages to grow and become their best selves.

Firstly, starting with its precious traditions and cultures, teenagers are able to understand the rich backgrounds of which people from all over come from. It truly helps teenagers understand how multicultural the country is, which would aid them for the real world. Already having this prior experience will make sure that the teenagers are prepped for when they become adults, going into the big world. Secondly, teenagers are practically somewhat free when it comes to living in south Africa. They have got the youthful freedom of doing what they want to before they soon grow old. However, despite the abundant freedom given, crime will always be prevalent in the country, so no matter where you go there will always be something. It is never nothing. When I was growing up in south Africa, I was not allowed to go anywhere, especially at night alone or more specifically walk anywhere without parental or guardian supervision. Someone always had to be there, or else the next minute I could be kidnapped, drugged, raped, or any foreseeable offenses. It is utterly destressing to think that it could easily happen to anyone if not cautious. I cannot fathom how important it is to perpetually stay wary of your whereabouts.

Although there are a handful of demeaning exceptions, south Africa is just such a wonderful nation to call home. For example, the plentiful of attractions is one big driver of the country’s economy. In cape town, you have got Table Mountain, which is essentially as it is in its name; a flat mountain that looks like a table when covered with small tips of snow or clouds. Many teenagers, including myself have found this site to be one of a kind with its spontaneous views. Nearby is the Victoria and Alfred waterfront, most commonly known as the V&A waterfront. The huge waterfront attracts bustling crowds including those of teens. You would expect to see teenagers of all different ages hanging out with their friends or simply going to visit the area. Moving on, Johannesburg holds one of the UNESCO world heritage sites, The Cradle of Humankind. This perplexing heritage site holds presumably one of south Africa’s greatest features of evolution and its natural history. Teens can visit the site to learn about their evolution. When I first walked in, I found the whole structure unnerving, but I faced what I feared and continued on the journey. In the end, I found it insightful and a good way to spend your holidays to the neighbouring cities.

Overall, teenagers have a lot ahead of them in south Africa but given the amount of crime and danger within the community, it is safe to assume that teenagers might not be able to live out their full lives as they would have hoped to. Gathering all my evidence, I cannot admit that being a teenager in south Africa is great however there are quite a few exceptions. Teens will just need to make sure to stray away from anything uncanny and most importantly try and live their youthful lives before it is too late when south Africa is practically on the verge of collapsing.

Explanation:

In the 50 years following the end of Reconstruction, African Americans transformed American life once more: They moved. Driven in part by economic concerns, and in part by frustration with the straitened social conditions of the South, in the 1870s African Americans began moving North and West in great numbers. In the 1890s, the number of African Americans moving to the Northeast and the Midwest was double that of the previous decade. In 1910, it doubled again, then again in 1920. In the 1920s, more than 750,000 African Americans left the South--a greater movement of people than had occurred in the Irish potato famine of the 1840s.

The large-scale relocation to the Northeast and West brought many other changes with it, as many largely rural people moved into cities for the first time. Housing was difficult to come by, and in many cities the non-African American residents demanded strict segregation, relegating the new arrivals to self-contained neighborhoods in undesirable parts of town. In addition, most of the available work in the cities was industrial, and many migrating African Americans faced the prospect of learning new trades, generally at lower rates of pay than European Americans received. Tensions between longtime residents and new migrants frequently flared, and during the first decades of the century race riots struck many of the nation's cities and towns, from Springfield, Illinois, and Rosewood, Florida, to New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Tulsa.

The coming of the First World War drew still more African Americans to the nation's cities, both in the North and the South, as workers were attracted by new factory jobs. A university education came within reach for more and more African Americans, and considerable debate emerged about the role of the growing African American professional class. As African American officers such as Colonel Charles Young attained higher command rank, a career in the military became more appealing.

The new century also saw the birth of a new generation of activist organizations dedicated to advancing the cause of equal rights for African Americans, as well as to improving their social and economic conditions. The two most notable of these were the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which was founded in 1910, and the National Urban League, which followed the next year. Both groups were racially integrated, and both were seen by some as too radical in their goals and methods, but they soon emerged as central forces in the struggles of the mid-century.

Perhaps the most profound result of the move to the Northeast and West, however, was the shift in electoral power that it brought with it. For the first time since Reconstruction, a substantial number of African Americans were able to freely exercise their right to vote. This access to the tools of democracy soon resulted in the election of African American political leaders, and it also made the African American electorate a force to be reckoned with on the national political scene-a force whose concerns could not easily be ignored.

Which sentence in the paragraph should be revised to reflect a formal style and objective tone?
In William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, the characters Brutus and Cassius express concerns about Caesar’s rule over Rome and eventually rebel against him. In fact, Cassius describes Caesar “Like a Colossus” and the people of Rome as “petty men” walking beneath him. In my opinion, this metaphor emphasizes Cassius’s obvious problem with Caesar. After the conspiracy against Caesar takes place, Brutus appeals to the Roman people by asking them “Had you rather Caesar were living and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live all free men?” This question supports the idea that if they had not rebelled against Caesar, the Roman people would have lost their freedom.
