Part 2: Exposition (based on the fable "The Sheep and the Pig")
The sun was high in the sky, casting a warm glow over the green meadow. Among the grass, a fluffy white sheep named Bella was grazing contently. Bella had always been a curious creature, often venturing away from the safety of her flock.
One day, while exploring the meadow, Bella encountered a plump pink pig named Wilbur. Wilbur was snorting contently while he dug himself a hole in the mud. Bella was intrigued by the pig's carefree demeanor and decided to strike up a conversation.
To Bella's surprise, Wilbur turned out to be quite knowledgeable about the world beyond the meadow. The pig shared stories of his travels and adventures, sparking Bella's imagination. She began to question if there was more to life than just grazing in the meadow.
As the sun began to set, Bella reluctantly said goodbye to Wilbur, promising to meet him again soon. However, her flock looked at her with suspicion when she returned. They were wary of her newfound friendship with a pig and warned her of the dangers of straying too far from their herd.
Despite her flock's warnings, Bella couldn't help but feel drawn to Wilbur and his adventurous lifestyle. She yearned for more excitement in her life and wondered what it would be like to explore the world beyond the meadow.
Part 3: Reflection
In the exposition, I used the protagonist's thoughts and feelings to give insight into Bella's curious and adventurous nature. I also gave her a quirky personality by having her strike up a friendship with an unlikely character like Wilbur the Pig, which helps to drive the conflict of the story. Finally, I gave a detailed setting of the green meadow to help create a clear picture in the reader's mind.
I did not use any figurative language in the exposition.

A) Conclusion A is not effective because it lacks forcefulness and comes across as weak. While it acknowledges the importance of the rainforest and suggests campaigning to save it, the language used is hesitant and lacks conviction. It does not provide a strong call to action or convey a sense of urgency, making it less persuasive.
B) Conclusion B is a strong and effective conclusion. It emphasizes the value and significance of the rainforest by highlighting its benefits, such as providing oxygen and medicines, and its role as a habitat for diverse wildlife. The conclusion appeals to the reader's sense of responsibility by urging them to join the fight to protect the rainforest for future generations. The statement that once the rainforest is lost, it will be lost forever creates a sense of urgency and emphasizes the irreversible consequences of inaction.
C) Conclusion C is not a good conclusion because it is overly aggressive and disrespectful. It uses language that belittles those who hold different views, calling them misguided and lacking intelligence. Such an approach is likely to alienate readers and undermine the persuasive intent of the text. It is important to maintain a respectful tone in persuasive writing to engage readers and encourage them to consider the argument presented.

by ten friends. Eight friends each received equal amounts,
and two friends each received double that amount.
(Lessons 6-8 to 6-11)
a. What amount of money was each of the eight friends'
share of the payment?
Each of the eight friends received $9,000 as their share of the payment, while the two friends received double that amount, or $18,000 each.
To start, we know that the large corporation paid $90,000 for the rights to a software program. This payment was then shared by ten friends, with eight of them receiving equal amounts and two of them receiving double that amount.
Let's first figure out how much the two friends who received double the amount received.
We can start by dividing the $90,000 payment by 10, which gives us $9,000. If we add up the eight friends' equal shares, we get a total of $72,000 ($9,000 x 8). This means that the remaining $18,000 was split between the two friends who received double the amount.
To determine the amount each of the eight friends received, we simply divide $72,000 by 8. This gives us an answer of $9,000 for each of the eight friends.

Socrates was accused of "corrupting the young" because of his beliefs. He was a philosopher, believing in logic more than the gods or the rulers' word. It was contradictory because of the fact that he was believing in STRAIGHT FACTS my guy, or in logic. It was illogical because they thought his teachings would lead to the younger generations rebelling against the rulers, taking them out of power. This led them to be "afraid" for lack of better words, ultimately leading to the accusation.

Juror 8 discovers new evidence that leads to a retrial, which ultimately results in the true killer being brought to justice.
Sequel to Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose: "The Repercussions of Justice"
It had been years since Juror 8 had convinced the other jurors to acquit the defendant in the murder case.
The case had been closed and forgotten, but Juror 8 couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. He had always believed in the justice system, but now he wasn't so sure. He couldn't help but wonder if they had made the right decision.
Juror 8 had kept in touch with some of the jurors after the trial, and he knew that they were also struggling with their decision.
They had all believed that they had done the right thing at the time, but now they weren't so sure.
One day, Juror 8 received a letter from the defendant. He was now a free man, and he wanted to thank Juror 8 for fighting for his innocence. The letter was heartfelt, and it touched Juror 8 deeply.
He realized that their decision had changed someone's life, and he couldn't help but feel proud of what they had accomplished.
But as the years went by, Juror 8 couldn't escape the nagging feeling that justice had not been served.
He began to investigate the case further, trying to find any new evidence that might shed light on what had really happened.
Juror 8 soon discovered that there had been a witness who had not been called to testify during the trial.
The witness had seen the victim arguing with another man on the night of the murder, and the argument had turned violent. The witness had not come forward at the time, fearing for his safety.
Juror 8 tracked down the witness and convinced him to testify in a new trial. The witness's testimony was enough to overturn the previous verdict, and the real killer was finally brought to justice.
Juror 8 was relieved that justice had been served, but he couldn't help but feel guilty for not uncovering the truth sooner.
He had been so convinced of the defendant's innocence that he had overlooked crucial evidence that could have saved years of injustice.
In the end, Juror 8 realized that justice was not always black and white. It was messy and complicated, and sometimes it took years to uncover the truth.
But he was proud to have been a part of a system that could eventually set things right.
As he sat in his living room, Juror 8 thought back to that fateful day in the jury room. He had never imagined that it would lead him down this path, but he was grateful for the journey.
He knew that justice was not always perfect, but he also knew that it was worth fighting for.

Dear Editor,
I want to address the new peanut-free school policy that the school board passed at the last meeting. Parents at the PTA meeting were fired up. You could see groups of parents huddled together like angry wasps while angry phrases stung the air. The school board had implemented a peanut-free school zone to protect students with allergies.
One side felt like the school shouldn't be controlling what is brought to school for lunch. A peanut-free table in the lunchroom should be enough. Another side felt like they were fighting for their children's lives. A peanut allergy can be deadly; it is not something to be ignored because some children and parents felt it was unfair.
Life and death hang in the balance for some of these children; schools should be a safe place for ALL students. My little brother quit breathing after he had shared crayons with a child who had peanut butter at lunch. How would you feel if it was your little brother?
Is the speaker biased? Why or why not? Write your response in 2-3 sentences and use evidence from the text to support your answer.
Yes, the speaker is biased. They are sharing their own feelings towards this argument, and bringing in a personal expierence to the message. There are undertones of passive-aggressiveness, too. When they ask "How would you feel if it was your little brother?" they are siding with the parents who want everything to be peanut-free.

Piggy suggests on page 84 of "Lord of the Flies" that the absence of fear on the island is due to the lack of people to be frightened of. This inference reflects his understanding that fear is primarily a result of human actions and interactions.
1. The boys' fear of the beast: Throughout the novel, the boys' fear of the unknown beast grows, leading to chaos and paranoia among them. However, it becomes clear that the beast is actually a projection of their own fears and the darkness within themselves. The absence of people on the island allows their inner fears to manifest and amplify without any external threats.
2. The absence of fear in peaceful moments: When the boys engage in activities such as swimming or playing, they experience moments of relative calm and lack of fear. These moments demonstrate that in the absence of people and external influences, their fear diminishes. It highlights the idea that fear is a product of human society and interactions, rather than an inherent aspect of their surroundings.
In conclusion, Piggy's suggestion implies that fear arises from human actions and interactions, and the absence of people on the island diminishes the presence of fear. The examples of the boys' fear of the beast and the absence of fear in peaceful moments support this inference.

PLEASE HELP ME ASAP(70 POINTS!) SCARLET LETTER
Read the first three chapters and complete the following during reading strategies (copy those marks here):
1.) Make at least two inferences about plot, character, or setting.
2.) Provide at least two annotations you made and explain why you made them.
3.) Identify at least three unfamiliar words and list what you think the word means and its dictionary definition.
After reading the first three chapters of the Scarlet letter these are my evaluations,
1) Since he refuses to confess his sin or share in Hester's punishment, it can be assumed that Hester Prynne's lover is someone who enjoys respect and influence in Puritan society. This raises questions about his identity and motivations and fosters a sense of mystery.
Another implication is that Hester Chillingworth's husband Roger Chillingworth, is a vengeful and cunning man because he poses as a doctor and pretends to be friends with Arthur Dimmesdale, the minister who is actually Hester's secret lover. This foreshadows and ironically sets up his plan to humiliate and torture Dimmesdale.
2) The passage from chapter one had the following annotation "The founders of a new colony, whatever Utopia.........site of a prison." I took note of how this sentence introduces the novel's theme of sin and punishment as well as the contrast between the puritan society's ideal and reality. It should be noted that the cemetery and the prison are both images of death and suffering that portend what will happen to some of the characters.
Another note I made read, "On the breast of her................ letter A" in the second chapter. I took note of how this phrase refers to Hester having to wear a scarlet letter as a symbol of her adultery. It should be noted that the letter A represents a variety of concepts throughout the book including sin, guilt, shame, grace and redemption. Even the letter A stands in stark contrast to the ornate embroidery and gold thread suggesting Hester's artistic talent and rebellious demeanor.
3) "Ignominy" which appears in chapter two is one unfamiliar word It probably refers to shame or dishonor. It is "public shame or disgrace" according to the dictionary definition. "Physiognomy" is another unfamiliar word that is used in chapter two. I believe it refers to a person's facial expression or appearance. It is described as "a person's facial features or expression especially when regarded as indicative of character or ethnic origin" by the dictionary.
