If you pick up a metal ruler, it usually feels cold to your hand. A wood or plastic ruler will feel warmer. But if these rulers were all sitting on your desk, then they are all room temperature. So why does one feel colder than the others? It all comes down to a property of matter called conduction. Conduction  measures how well a material (such as metal, wood, or plastic) transfers energy. The more conductive a material is, the better it transfers energy. For example, good electrical conductors transfer electricity well. Good thermal conductors transfer thermal energy well. In class, you learned about thermal conduction. When two substances with different thermal energies touch, thermal energy is always transferred from the substance with more thermal energy to the substance with less thermal energy until the thermal energy in the two substances is equal. It’s kind of like the metal, glass, and plastic are soaking up as much thermal energy as they can from the water. Metal heats more quickly because it is a better conductor than plastic or glass: it can How will you do this? How will you keep thermal energy from transferring out  of your cooker? Images, right to left:  / Public Domain - publicdomainvectors soak up thermal energy more quickly than the others. But it only does this until it is the same temperature as the water. Let's consider the rulers again. How does conduction help explain why the metal feels colder? Well, your hands are at body temperature, about 37°C (98.6°F). They are kept warm by the blood in your veins and have more thermal energy than the rulers. The rulers are at room temperature, which is probably between 20 and 30°C. When you touch each ruler, they begin absorbing thermal energy from your hand. Since the metal is a better conductor, it will take your thermal energy more quickly than the plastic or wood. The experience of losing thermal energy makes your hand feel “cold”. What if instead of a metal ruler, you were touching a big metal table? It would feel cold for much longer because there is so much more metal. It would take much more thermal energy to warm up to the same temperature as your body, meaning it would transfer a lot more thermal energy from your hand. This would make your hand feel quite chilly! How long it takes an object to change temperature depends on both the number of molecules in a substance and the thermal conductivity of the material it is made of.In your solar cooker, you will want to transfer as much thermal energy as possible to the food.

Answers

Answer:

Metal conducts heat faster than wood. Thus, the metal conducted heat away from your hand (or whatever) faster than wood.

Explanation:

The key word here is "feel". Just because they feel warm/cold, doesn't always mean that it is "warm/cold".

If they were both sitting at room temperature for a long time, then both will eventually reach the temperature of the room.

Even though they are the same temperature, the metal will feel colder than the wood because of the thermal conductivity of the metal, compared to the wood.

Metal will conduct the heat to your hand (or whatever you touched the metal with) faster.

On the other hand, wood is a poor conductor of heat and will slowly conduct the heat away from your hand (or whatever) much more slowly. It's so slow that it is noticeable (compared to the metal).

It is because the metal conducted heat faster that it feels colder than the wood, which conducted heat slower. They feel different temperatures, but they are actually the same.

Another example for the real world, is when you get out of the shower and step on the carpet - feels warmer. If you stepped on the tiles, it would feel colder because they conduct heat faster.

In general, metals feel colder or hotter to the touch than other materials at the same temperature because they're good thermal conductors. This means they easily transfer heat to colder objects or absorb heat from warmer objects. Metal feels cold because it conducts heat extremely well. Since room temperature is lower than your body temperature, metal will quickly absorb the heat from your skin, making it feel cold. This is also why hot metal can burn you so easily; it will quickly transfer its own heat into your skin.

Varun said to Ayaan,'' you should take care of your old parent .'' (reported speech direct to indirect)

Answers

Answer:

Varun told Ayaan that he should take care of his old parent.

Explanation:

In reporting or writing speeches, the direct form is when the exact words of the speaker are used along with the speech marks/ inverted commas. But in the indirect speech form, the inverted commas will be removed and the verbs in the direct speech are to be changed according to their tenses. This means that if the verb is in the present tense in the direct speech, then the indirect speech will use the corresponding past tense of that verb.

In the given example, Varun is talking to Ayaan about his (Ayaan's) old parent. Thus, the "you" and "your" in the speech refers to Ayaan. So, we take out the commas and the inverted commas and change the pronouns accordingly. And the modal verb "should" remains unchanged in a reporting speech.

Thus, the indirect speech of the given speech becomes-

Varun told Ayaan that he should take care of his old parent.

Write a letter to your friend in another school telling him or her about your school and why you left your formal school

Answers

Dear Bff or best friends.

When I was in year 10 I made the worst decision of my life. I left school never to return again. I was a good student; I never caused trouble and always did what I was told during lessons. But things weren’t great, and mostly I loathed the prospect of attending.

I often refused to get up and constantly argued with my parents about playing truant – the majority of the time I won; my attendance was shocking.

The reason? I was a fat loser. I was constantly being picked on because I was overweight. I was quiet and shy and I never defended myself. I couldn’t concentrate in class for all the abuse: once I was shot in the back.

The bullying was a day-to-day occurrence. I never told the teachers; people always say tell someone, but in reality, when you’re at school no one believes that it will help. A couple of months into the beginning of year 10 I’d had enough.

One day I was a pupil at the school, the next I wasn’t. I didn’t even tell anyone I was leaving; I just knew I wasn’t going back. A lot of people ask me why I didn’t change school: I just didn’t want to be the new kid at another school after everything I had experienced.

A year passed before a youth careers organisation contacted me. I was sent to a place called Springboard, for young people who’ve left school early. It was the worst place for me, there were lots of kids there who were disruptive and would smoke, scream and shout during lessons.

I left after three weeks, I was knocked back even further. The careers organisation arranged interviews for colleges, but I didn’t turn up. A part of me couldn’t be bothered, but mostly I wanted to avoid situations where I had to meet new people my own age.

Obviously my education suffered by leaving school. I’ve got no GCSEs. My development as a person also suffered – I struggled with confidence and I have found it difficult to communicate with other young people. Getting back into education is helping me develop areas of my life that I should have sorted years ago. I blame myself as much as the bullies at school. Maybe I should have ignored their jibes and got on with it.

The brick house on the hill is my favorite in the neighborhood. What is underlined in this sentence? Question 6 options: 1 ) adjective phrase 2)adverb phrase 3)pronoun 4)subject (BTW on the hill is underlined)

Answers

Answer: 2.) Adverb Phrase

Explanation:

The brick house on the hill is my favorite in the neighborhood.

The underlined word "on the hill" is an adverb phrase.

An adverb phrase is a phrase in a sentence that functions as an adverb. An adverb in a sentence modifies a verb or an adjective by adding more meaning and telling where, how or when an action is performed.

Just like an adverb has different types (adverb of manner, time, place, frequency and degree), so does an adverb phrase.

The adverb phrase "on the hill" is an adverb phrase of place because it describes the position of the brick house.
