Question 21 1 pts How many board foot will be needed to cover a 12x20 floor with 3/4" plywood? 15 bft 20 bft 12 bit 10 bit 2 pts D Question 22

Answers

Answer 1

To calculate the number of board feet needed to cover a 12x20 floor with 3/4" plywood, you can use the following formula: (Length * Width * Thickness) / 12.

To calculate the number of board feet needed to cover a floor, you need to consider the dimensions of the floor and the thickness of the plywood. In this case, the dimensions of the floor are 12 feet by 20 feet, and the thickness of the plywood is 3/4 inches.

To calculate the number of board feet, you can use the formula: (Length * Width * Thickness) / 12.

First, convert the dimensions to the same unit. Since the thickness is given in inches, we'll convert the length and width to inches as well. Multiplying the length (12 feet) by 12 gives us 144 inches, and multiplying the width (20 feet) by 12 gives us 240 inches.

Next, plug in the values into the formula:[tex](144 * 240 * 3/4) / 12[/tex].

Multiply the length, width, and thickness together: 103,680 cubic inches. Then divide by 12 to convert to board feet: 8,640 board feet.

Therefore, you will need 8,640 board feet of plywood to cover a 12x20 floor with 3/4" plywood.

Mediation processes in the standard form contracts, Advantages of
mediation over litigation

Answers

Mediation processes in standard form contracts offer effective dispute resolution methods, and mediation has advantages over litigation.

Mediation processes in standard form contracts provide a structured approach to resolving disputes outside of the courtroom. In mediation, a neutral third party facilitates communication and negotiation between the parties involved, helping them reach a mutually agreeable solution. Unlike litigation, which involves a formal legal process, mediation offers several advantages.

Firstly, mediation promotes a collaborative and cooperative atmosphere. It allows the parties to maintain control over the outcome and actively participate in the decision-making process. Mediation encourages open dialogue, helping to foster better understanding and communication between the parties involved.

Secondly, mediation is often faster and more cost-effective than litigation. Court proceedings can be lengthy and expensive, involving extensive paperwork, legal fees, and court appearances. Mediation, on the other hand, typically takes less time and requires fewer resources, reducing the financial and emotional burden on the parties.

Lastly, mediation can preserve relationships and promote future cooperation. Since mediation focuses on finding common ground and mutually satisfactory solutions, it can help repair and maintain relationships between the parties involved. This can be particularly valuable in ongoing business relationships or situations where preserving a positive rapport is important.

In summary, mediation processes in standard form contracts offer an alternative to litigation that is collaborative, efficient, and relationship-focused. By providing a structured approach to dispute resolution, mediation can yield beneficial outcomes for all parties involved.

It has been determined by scientists at FDEP that an excess of 500,000 pounds of Total Nitrogen discharged into this watershed each year is threatening fishing and recreation in the Caloosahatchee estuary. Although there are five treatment plants discharging effluent into the river, you have determined that pollution from these plants is minimal (represents less than 1 percent of total nitrogen pollutant load) and that most of the pollution is coming from local jurisdictions or upstream in the agricultural areas. The FDEP will not require the treatment plants to reduce their loads to the river because they already have the highest level of wastewater treatment. You are, therefore, going to require a reduction of nonpoint source pollution (generally from stormwater system) from the jurisdictions and from the agriculture. 1. The problem of religious diversity: Since there are different religions, there will be different conceptions of God, and consequently, different moral systems. It would be unreasonable to assume that all these religions are correct, and therefore their different moral systems are also right. This means that the Divine Command Theory lacks the universality that a moral theory should possess.

2. The Euthyphro Dilemma: The Euthyphro dilemma is a philosophical problem that asks whether something is right because God commands it, or if God commands it because it is right. If the former is true, then morality is arbitrary since what is right is determined solely by the whims of God. If the latter is true, then morality is not dependent on God, and the Divine Command Theory is false.

I do not accept Divine Command Theory as the source of morality because it presents a problematic situation regarding the nature of morality and its universality. There is no proof that any God exists, and even if there is, there is no evidence that God's commands are always right. Furthermore, the problem of religious diversity makes it difficult to accept Divine Command Theory as a universally applicable moral theory since different religions have different views on what God commands. In conclusion, while Divine Command Theory may be appealing to those who believe in a deity, it is not a sound basis for universal moral theory.

f the water table within a soil column rises due to the rainfall, what will happen to the total stress, effective stress and pore-water pressure of a soil element at a depth of 2 m, respectively? (Short answer must include decrease/increase for each parameter and max 3 lines of explanations).

Answers

When the water table within a soil column rises due to rainfall, the following changes occur at a depth of 2 m:

stress: The total stress increases because the weight of the additional water above the soil element adds to the existing stress from the soil itself.

Effective stress: The effective stress decreases because the increase in pore-water pressure reduces the effective stress transmitted between soil grains. The increase in water pressure counteracts the intergranular forces, reducing the effective stress.

Pore-water pressure: The pore-water pressure increases due to the rise in the water table. The additional water exerts hydrostatic pressure on the soil element, leading to an increase in pore-water pressure.

These changes in total stress, effective stress, and pore-water pressure are important considerations in soil mechanics and can have implications for soil stability and engineering design.

QUESTION 4 151 You have to design a one-way intercom system for an office. The system should have two 8051 micro-controllers connected to each other for full duplex serial communication. The two MCS 8051's are located at the entrance to the building and the office. Micro-controller 1 has a normally HIGH push button on INTO (P3.2), and an ADC0804 connected to the data bus on address 4000H. The ADC's INTR line is connected to P3.3. Connected to the ADC, is a microphone with amplifiers. The ADC is used to convert the microphone analogue sound signal into a discrete signal. As long as the button is pushed, micro-controller 1 should continuously read the ADC and serially transmit the sound samples to the other micro- controller. The Questions refer to micro-controller 1. Use edge triggered interrupts for the push button. Do not use interrupts for the serial port. The following specifications apply: Fosc (Crystal Oscillator frequency) = 11.0592MHz Baud rate 9600 Baud (bits/second) Baud rate generator : Timer 1 - Mode 2 (auto reload operation) PCON 0x80 thus K 2 THI 256-[(K x Fosc)/(384 x Baud rate)] UART operation - 8-bit operation with variable baud rate option 4.1 Draw a flow chart of the program that will implement the system.

Answers

To design a one-way intercom system using two 8051 micro-controllers, Micro-controller 1 continuously reads an ADC connected to a microphone and transmits sound samples to Micro-controller 2 when a push button is pressed.

In this one-way intercom system, Micro-controller 1 is equipped with a normally HIGH push button on INTO (P3.2) and an ADC0804 connected to the data bus on address 4000H. The ADC's INTR line is connected to P3.3. A microphone with amplifiers is connected to the ADC to convert the analog sound signal into a discrete signal. The objective is to continuously read the ADC and transmit the sound samples to Micro-controller 2 as long as the push button is pressed.

The program flow chart can be divided into several key steps. Firstly, the program initializes the necessary variables, sets up the UART communication, and configures Timer 1 for generating the desired baud rate. Then, it enters the main loop where it waits for the push button interrupt to be triggered. Once the interrupt occurs, the program enters the interrupt service routine (ISR) where it reads the ADC value and transmits it serially to Micro-controller 2. After transmitting the sample, it goes back to the main loop and waits for the next button press interrupt.

The program flow ensures that the sound samples are continuously transmitted while the push button is pressed, providing a one-way intercom functionality between the entrance and the office.

Given the intersection of a N 450 E back tangent line and a S 850 E forward tangent line at point "PI," and the locations of BC and EC at stations 25+00 and 31+00, respectively, we can determine various measurements. The stationing of point PI, the deflection angle to station 26+00, the chord distance to station 26+00 from BC, the bearing from BC to the Radius Point, and the bearing of the long chord from BC to EC can all be calculated.

a) To determine the stationing of point PI, we subtract the station of BC (25+00) from the station of EC (31+00). The resulting difference gives us the stationing of point PI.

b) The deflection angle to station 26+00 can be calculated using the formula: deflection angle = (chord distance / radius) * (180 / π). By subtracting the station of BC from the given station (26+00), we obtain the chord distance. The radius can be determined based on the given tangents and the intersection angle.

c) The chord distance to station 26+00 from BC is obtained by subtracting the station of BC (25+00) from the given station (26+00).

d) The bearing from BC to the Radius Point can be determined by taking the bearing of the back tangent line (N 450 E) and adding the intersection angle at point PI.

e) The bearing of the long chord from BC to EC can be calculated by taking the bearing of the back tangent line (N 450 E) and adding 90 degrees.

This is an excerpt from- Sexual selection and special design authored by Steven W Gangestad, in the Annals New York academy of Science. Answer the questions based on the excerpt provided below. "…..Women claim men’s scent importantly affects their attraction to them. Moreover, evidence suggests that women’s olfaction changes across menstrual cycle. For instance, women tend to rate androstenone, a steroid found in men’s sweat, more positively near ovulation than during non-fertile phases.
In an initial study, we asked 41 men to wear T-shirt for two consecutive nights. During the two-day period, they were to wash only with unscented soap, not to wear any fragrances or colognes, not eat certain strong foods, and not to sleep with another person. They dropped shirts off at our lab on a designated morning. Later that same morning and throughout the next day, women came in, smelled each T-shirt and rated its attractiveness (a composite of two ratings: pleasantness and sexiness). For each woman, we regressed her rating on men’s symmetry to yield "a preference for symmetry" score (the regression slope, a measure of the change in rating as a function of a change in symmetry). We then examined the correlation of these preference scores with women’s estimated fertility based on their self-reported day of the cycle and actuarial data on probability of conception for each day. Across 28 normally ovulating women the correlation was 0.54, p<0.001. Examination of the bivariate plot revealed that when women’s fertility was near zero (very early and late in the cycle), they had no systematic preference for the scent of either symmetrical or asymmetrical men. As their fertility increased, however, they increasingly preferred the scent of symmetrical men.
A subsequent study replicated and extended that result in a larger sample of about 50 normally ovulating women and 80 men. Women’s preference for symmetry correlated 0.42 with their fertility based on the day of their cycle, p<0.001. We asked men how many times they showered and whether they wore any fragrances. The number of times men showered predicted the attractiveness of their scent. When this variable was partialled out and all men who wore fragrances were eliminated from the analysis, the correlation between women’s symmetry and their fertility actually increased, r=0.48, p<0.001. In a third study in our lab, this result was once again replicated, r=0.26, p<0.05. When data from all three studies were pooled, the correlation between women’s preference for symmetry and the fertile phase of their cycle was r=0.40, p<0.0001." [Note: p values reported here means that correlation r is statistically significant]
From this scenario, the immune systems of humans should be exceptionally high. Yet, there is a rising incidence of autoimmune diseases and lack thereof immunity. What form of selection do you think is at play here? Explain.

Answers

Autoimmune diseases are rising despite the fact that humans should have exceptionally high immune systems. This can be explained by the fact that sexual selection is at play, leading to a reduction in immune function.

The excerpt explains the correlation between women's preference for symmetry and their fertile phase of their cycle. It is observed that women tend to prefer the scent of symmetrical men as their fertility increases. This indicates that women use scent as a factor in determining mating partners, which is an example of sexual selection.Sexual selection is a special type of natural selection in which individuals with certain traits are more likely than others to obtain mates.

This leads to traits that improve an individual's ability to secure a mate being favored, while traits that do not aid in mate selection are not favored. As a result, it is suggested that sexual selection may have favored traits that lower immune function in order to signal traits related to mate quality. This could explain the rising incidence of autoimmune diseases despite the fact that humans should have exceptionally high immune systems.

Answers

When the measured elevation of Point A is 255.48 ft and the error of closure is -0.05 ft,then The corrected elevation of Point A is 255.51 ft.

To determine the corrected elevation of Point A, we need to consider the error of closure and the cumulative distance to Point A within the loop.

Calculate the correction factor

First, we calculate the correction factor by dividing the error of closure by the total loop distance:

Correction factor = (error of closure) / (total loop distance)

Correction factor = -0.05 ft / 1250.97 ft

Correction factor ≈ -0.00004

Apply the correction factor

Next, we apply the correction factor to the measured elevation of Point A. We multiply the correction factor by the cumulative distance to Point A:

Correction = (correction factor) * (cumulative distance to Point A)

Correction = -0.00004 * 785.55 ft

Correction = -0.03142 ft

Calculate the corrected elevation

Finally, we add the correction to the measured elevation of Point A to obtain the corrected elevation:

Corrected elevation of Point A = (measured elevation of Point A) + (correction)

Corrected elevation of Point A = 255.48 ft + (-0.03142 ft)

Corrected elevation of Point A = 255.44858 ft

Rounded to two decimal places, the corrected elevation of Point A is 255.45 ft.

A gaseous fuel with a volumetric analysis of 60% C2H6 and 40% H2 is burned to completion. i) Determine the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, on a molar basis of the combustion.
ii) Perform a wet analysis of the products if the gas is burned with 120 percent theoretical air.

Answers

Step 1:

The stoichiometric air-fuel ratio for the combustion of the gaseous fuel is 14.4 on a molar basis.

Step 2:

When determining the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, we need to consider the balanced chemical equation for the combustion of the gaseous fuel. In this case, the volumetric analysis tells us that the fuel consists of 60% C2H6 (ethane) and 40% H2 (hydrogen gas). To calculate the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, we need to find the molar ratio of the fuel components in the balanced equation.

For ethane (C2H6):

C2H6 + 7.5(O2 + 3.76N2) → 2CO2 + 3H2O + 7.5(3.76N2)

For hydrogen (H2):

2H2 + 7.5(O2 + 3.76N2) → 2H2O + 7.5(3.76N2)

From the equations, we can see that for every 1 mol of C2H6 or 1 mol of H2, we need 7.5 mol of O2 and 28.2 mol of N2 (since air contains approximately 79% nitrogen, 21% oxygen). Therefore, the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio is given by:

Stoichiometric air-fuel ratio = (7.5 mol O2 + 28.2 mol N2) / (1 mol C2H6 + 1 mol H2) = 14.4

Step 3:

To ensure complete combustion of the gaseous fuel, a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio of 14.4 is required. This means that for every mole of ethane or hydrogen in the fuel mixture, we need 14.4 moles of air containing the necessary oxygen and nitrogen. This ratio ensures that all the carbon and hydrogen in the fuel react fully with the available oxygen, resulting in the complete conversion of the fuel to carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O).

Using 120% of the theoretical air (which means 20% excess air), we can perform a wet analysis of the products. Excess air helps ensure complete combustion by providing additional oxygen. The wet analysis involves determining the composition of the exhaust gases, particularly the levels of carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapor (H2O), and any remaining unreacted oxygen (O2). These measurements are important in assessing the efficiency and environmental impact of the combustion process.
