Annabelle is curently 27 years old and lives in the Seattle area. When she was young her mother left to take a temporary job opportunity in India and never returned. Her father left her family when she was two years old and has not been a part of her life. She was raised by her grandmother and her community of Indian-American relatives. Annabelle has said that she has always felt different being raised in an Indian American community and understanding her peers at school and work. She has also explained that she does not feel like she is part of her family community either. She has tried to explain that she is a lesbian and her extended family insists that it is a “phase” that she is going through and she has said that she almost never feels “understood.”

Annabelle still lives with her grandmother and is unemployed. She took a few classes in college but cannot seem to attend more than 30% of classes, mostly because she is too anxious. She is too afraid to go to a job interview and tends to sabotage any opportunity that comes her way.

Annabelle drinks alcohol alone after her grandmother goes to sleep and chain smokes cigarettes, often until 4AM. She communicates with individuals online, many of which she has created false aliases for and that she lies to. Her cousins recently have organized an intervention because they believe that Annabelle’s last few conversations have hinted at suicidal ideation and being “hopeless” and they are very worried about her. They are worried about her physical health.
