Why is it important to analyze the information you are using for textual evidence? (using your own words)

Answers

Explanation:

It is important to analyze the information you are using for textual evidence because authors often use literary devices like imagery and similies to convey the bigger meaning of the text or, the theme. If textual evidence is not analyzed the possible real meaning will not be understood by the reader, unless the evidence is analyzed.

Answer:

As readers, writers and thinkers, it is natural for students to develop ideas, ask questions, and make claims regarding what they are reading. Citing textual evidence requires students to look back into the text for evidence to support an idea, answer a question or make a claim.

In Chapter 10 of The Hobbit, Bilbo saves the dwarves from captivity and hides them in barrels to float down an underground river.

How do the dwarves first react to reaching Lake-town safely?

A:They are cross and ungrateful toward Bilbo and his efforts.

B:They are highly confused and uncertain about where they are.

C:They are happy and thankful that they have made it to safety.

D:They are relieved but worried about the next leg of the trip.

Part B

Which excerpts best support the answer in Part A?

Select the two correct answers.

A:Thorin of course saw the sense of this, so after a few more groans he got up and helped the hobbit as well as he could. In the darkness floundering in the cold water they had a difficult and very nasty job finding which were the right barrels. Knocking outside and calling only discovered about six dwarves that could answer."

B:'I hope I never smell the smell of apples again!' said Fili. 'My tub was full of it. To smell apples everlastingly when you can scarcely move and are cold and sick with hunger is maddening. I could eat anything in the wide world now, for hours on end—but not an apple!'”

C:"With the willing help of Fili and Kili, Thorin and Bilbo at last discovered the remainder of the company and got them out. Poor fat Bombur was asleep or senseless; Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin and Gloin were waterlogged and seemed only half alive; they all had to be carried one by one and laid helpless on the shore.

D:He had a famished and a savage look like a dog that has been chained and forgotten in a kennel for a week. It was Thorin, but you could only have told it by his golden chain, and by the colour of his now dirty and tattered sky-blue hood with its tarnished silver tassel. It was some time before he would be even polite to the hobbit."

In Chapter 10 of "The Hobbit," Bilbo saves the dwarves from captivity and hides them in barrels. This is how the dwarves react when they reach Lake-town safely:

A. They are cross and ungrateful toward Bilbo and his efforts.

The two excerpts that best support the answer above are the following:

B. 'I hope I never smell the smell of apples again!' said Fili. 'My tub was full of it. To smell apples everlastingly when you can scarcely move and are cold and sick with hunger is maddening. I could eat anything in the wide world now, for hours on end - but not an apple!'

D. He had a famished and a savage look like a dog that has been chained and forgotten in a kennel for a week. It was Thorin, but you could only have told it by his golden chain, and by the colour of his now dirty and tattered sky-blue hood with its tarnished silver tassel. It was some time before he would even be polite to the hobbit.

In Chapter 10 of "The Hobbit," Bilbo and the dwarves reach Lake-town. However, the trip there was not pleasant for the dwarves. To help them escape from captivity, Bilbo hid the dwarves in barrels. They could not move or eat for many hours. So, it comes as no surprise that, when they finally are let out of the barrels, the dwarves are grumpy and impolite.Bilbo gets annoyed by this. He expected at least a little bit of gratefulness.

Imagery is the main element poets as well as writers in general use to appeal to our five sense. Imagery is the usage of descriptive detail to better explain what makes up a certain environment or feeling. Read the following excerpt from “The Gift of the Magi” and answer the question.

For there lay The Combs--the set of combs, side and back, that Della had worshipped long in a Broadway window. Beautiful combs, pure tortoise shell, with jewelled rims--just the shade to wear in the beautiful vanished hair. They were expensive combs, she knew, and her heart had simply craved and yearned over them without the least hope of possession. And now, they were hers, but the tresses that should have adorned the coveted adornments were gone.

But she hugged them to her bosom, and at length she was able to look up with dim eyes and a smile and say: "My hair grows so fast, Jim! And them Della leaped up like a little singed cat and cried, "Oh, oh!" Jim had not yet seen his beautiful present. She held it out to him eagerly upon her open palm. The dull precious metal seemed to flash with a reflection of her bright and ardent spirit."Isn't it a dandy, Jim? I hunted all over town to find it. You'll have to look at the time a hundred times a day now. Give me your watch. I want to see how it looks on it."

Instead of obeying, Jim tumbled down on the couch and put his hands under the back of his head and smiled."Della," said he, "let's put our Christmas presents away and keep 'em a while. They're too nice to use just at present. I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops on."

The magi, as you know, were wise men--wonderfully wise men--who brought gifts to the Babe in the manger. They invented the art of giving Christmas presents. Being wise, their gifts were no doubt wise ones, possibly bearing the privilege of exchange in case of duplication. And here I have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. But in a last word to the wise of these days let it be said that of all who give gifts these two were the wisest. O all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest. Everywhere they are wisest. They are the magi.

Which words in the passage above does the author use to suggest the theme of the story?

“lamely” and “uneventful”
“manger” and “flat”
“give” and “receive”
“sacrificed” and “giving

To Whom it may concern

My name is Jane Smith and I'm a movie enthusiast. I'm writing to offer my unbiased opinion and to convey my concerns about a movie to the board members of Motion Picture Association of America. I recently watched a suspenseful thriller at my local theater. I paid to see the movie "Unhinged" starring Russell Crowe with a group of friends. I was deeply concerned and believe the film showcases extreme bouts of violence and profanity.

Unhinged had a realistic undertone that someone my age can relate to. Russell Crowe spends the whole movie terrorizing a young woman and community after a road rage incident. I believe the scenario is realistic in nature and sends a poor message to our youth, specifically teenagers that road rage is entertaining. I was flabbergasted by some of the gory murderous scenes that I feel ill.

Although "Unhinged " is classified as a Restricted movie I believe this rating is not restrictive enough. The movie was intense, fast paced and keep me on the edge of my seat however as a society that molds our youth they should not be exposed to extremely violent movies that may glorify such acts. For example, there is a scene in a dinner where Russell Crowes character is calm and suddenly bursts into a raging fit killing at man with a coffee mug resulting in blood spraying everywhere while other patrons ran. It was very unexpected, gory and intense.

In conclusion, I encourage your organization to review the rating and take measures to advertise more family friendly content so families of all ages can enjoy movies together. I appreciate the opportunity to voice my concerns. I hope your organization take the appropriate steps before showcasing this film any further.

Sincerely,

Jane Smith

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

To see if the person who cut down all of the trees would change and grow more environment for the animals.

The message of The Lorax was that nothing will change until someone cares about the issue. As he cut down the Truffula trees, the Once-ler didn't give a curse whether he hurt the land, the birds, the water, and the creatures.

What is the irony of the story?

The irony of the tale is that after depriving the Lorax and his pals of their pleasant, clean surroundings, the Once-ler went out of business, the Lorax, and his family moved away, and he was left alone in a filthy environment.

The Lorax examines how nature is interrelated and what can happen if we don't act appropriately. This book shows the regrettable results of reckless consumerism and greed. The reader is urged to grow compassion for the creatures and plants that live in our world, and to speak out for the voiceless.
