These Democrat-Republicans believed that having a strong central government would lead to tyranny and too much authoritarian power from the federal government and believed laws, regulations, and freedoms should best be left alone at the state level.

Meanwhile on the other hand the Democratic-Republican party eventually grew weaker in influence as time when on.
