Answer:
Complex Sentence
Explanation:
The sentence shown in the question above represents a complex sentence. Complex sentences are sentences that have an independent clause and one or more dependent clauses in the composition. In the sentence above, we can see that the clause "is an unusual holiday" is a dependent clause linked to the independent clause "February 2, the midpoint of winter."
Independent clauses are those that manage to emit a coherent meaning on their own, and can be a completely cohesive sentence. Dependent clauses, on the other hand, are clauses that cannot deliver meaning on their own, but need to be complemented by independent clauses in order to be coherent and to be able to convey a message.

Read The Water Cycle.
The water cycle is a natural phenomenon. It has implications for all of the living creatures it affects. Water is drawn up into the atmosphere as it evaporates from the ground, rivers, lakes, oceans, flora. and fauna. This water collects in our atmosphere. Then, it gathers together in concentrations that form clouds. Eventually, the clouds become too dense with water. This causes precipitation to begin and fall back down through our atmosphere. It lands on the Earth's surface as rain or snow. This precipitation then travels through the ground, plants, rivers, lakes and oceans. From there, it evaporates back up into the air to begin the cycle again.
Water is restorative in nature. A threat to the natural restorative nature of the water cycle is acid rain. Acid rain is caused by certain gas emissions in our atmosphere. Volcanoes release some of these gases naturally. However, the primary cause of these harmful emissions is human activity and industry. Large factories and gas-powered vehicles send harmful pollutants into the air. As these harmful gases are released into the atmosphere, they are caught in evaporated water molecules, causing acid clouds to form. The gases are also picked up by precipitation that falls from the clouds. The gases mix with the water molecules to form acids, which then fall from the sky as rain or snow. As air pollution continues, acid rain in the water cycle worsens.
Acid rain can poison plants and be harmful to animals. It is so strong that it slowly breaks down buildings and stone. The acids break down building materials. They can also burn the leaves of plants. Acid rain can even change the chemical make up of soil, making it toxic to plant life. It can also lower the productivity of farms and crop yields. As rivers and lakes become more acidic, acid rain destroys fish and aquatic life. Ocean creatures with exoskeletons are at risk of acidic waters. The acid weakens and dissolves their exoskeleton. There are many harmful effects on the water cycle caused by acid rain.

It started as a fluke, but ended as a success story. Ella Fitzgerald wanted to dance, but it seems she was born to sing. As a teenager, she entered a talent contest and planned to do a dance number. A pair of sisters took the stage right before Fitzgerald was to perform and did an amazing dance act. Intimidated by their phenomenal performance, Fitzgerald made a last-minute decision to sing instead of dance. Her performance won her first place in the contest and a warm reception from the audience. Fitzgerald had a hard decision to make. She sadly bid good-bye to her dancing career and began exploring the possibility of making her living as a singer. Despite being shy and often filled with self-doubt about her voice, Fitzgerald persisted and slowly began making a name for herself as a singer. She was to spend the next 58 years singing and would eventually sell over 40 million records.Fitzgerald's big break came when she started singing with Chick Webb's band in 1935. At first, Webb featured her in about half of the band's songs, paying her $12.50 per week to perform. After her success in 1938 with her recording of "A Tisket, A Tasket," Webb included Fitzgerald in every selection. Fitzgerald continued to perform with Webb's band and took over as bandleader for three years after Webb died in 1939.As a solo artist, Fitzgerald worked with most of the great jazz lyrists and composers of the 20th century, including Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and George Gershwin.

Rewrite the poem in your own words. What do you this the post is saying?
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore-
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat
Or crust and sugar over-
Like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
Like a heavy load
Or does it explode?
Answer: Hi there! I read "Harlem" last week in my English class and would love to help you out! Please see the "Explanation" section for a (hopefully) elaborate answer.
Explanation: I wrote a simple version of this poem in bullets.
If a dream would shrivel like a raisin in the sun, it would change into something so different that it wasn’t before. If a dream were to fester a sore, it would irritate and hurt someone badly. This could cause them to do something bad then run away. If a dream were to fail and crust over like sugar, that means that the diminished dream doesn't hurt you much.If someone would let their dream rot like meat, they’d have to lose all faith and hope, letting their dream go to waste like it was nothing. If a dream was to sag like a heavy load, it would slow the person down into thinking more about the dream, instead of working on trying to make the dream come true. When a dream doesn’t come true, one can become too stressed and mentally and emotionally explode, leading to an act of self-harm or something one would regret. What do you think this post (poet??) is saying?
I believe that Langston Hughes' poem best describes the many results of dreams (or ambitions) and how they can affect one's state of mind. Some effects of dreams can be benign while others reveal themselves to be detrimental.
This explanation is just my interpretation, and you are free to disagree with or change anything mentioned. Good luck with your assignment! :)
