what's a conflict that happened in your life?
Answer:
The most challenging conflict in my life was accepting that I was never cut out to be a boy/man and that in my heart of hearts since as young as I can remember I was supposed to be a girl/woman. I was always strange for a boy. I was too emotional and never very interested in macho guy things. When I was a child like most children I just naturally gravitated to my own peer groups where I fit in and where I was with like minded persons. The unusual thing was that these groups were almost always girls or mostly girls. It is not that I did not try to play with boys or that I did not have opportunity to play with them because I did, I just did not enjoy their company at all. Things got further confusing for me because although I liked playing the games the girls played like house and barbie rather then guy things even then I was often forced into certain gender roles. I would ask "why can't I be the mommy and you be the daddy today", even amongst the closest thing I had to peers at age 6-10 there was conflict. I always had to be daddy.

Read the excerpt from The War of the Worlds. A large portion of the cylinder had been uncovered, though its lower end was still embedded. As soon as Ogilvy saw me among the staring crowd on the edge of the pit he called to me to come down, and asked me if I would mind going over to see Lord Hilton, the lord of the manor. The growing crowd, he said, was becoming a serious impediment to their excavations, especially the boys. Which context clues effectively help indicate the meaning of the word excavations as it is used in the excerpt
This question is missing the answer choices. I have found them online; they are the following:
(Select all that apply)
edge of the pit
among the staring crowd
had been uncovered
was still embedded
Answer:
The context clues which effectively indicate the meaning of "excavations" are:
edge of the pit
had been uncovered
was still embedded
Explanation:
"War of the Worlds" is a science-fiction book by H. G. Wells. The plot concerns a Martian invasion of our planet.
The space ships sent to Earth by the Martians are shaped like cylinders. Instead of landing softly, they do it quite forcefully, so part of the cylinder ends up buried in the ground. In the excerpt we are analyzing here, the cylinder is being excavated, that is, dug up. Even if the reader does not know the meaning of the word "excavations" as it is used in the excerpt, he can infer it from the clues:
edge of the pit
had been uncovered
was still embedded
The clues above help readers visualize the half-buried space ship and understand that some of it has already been dug up.

Phelps provides sufficient evidence by explaining that books enable people to connect with the great thinkers.
Explanation:
In the topic sentence which highlights a major point the author wanted to stress about books, he stated that books are one of the greatest resources available to mankind today. To support this statement he explained that one of the benefits of books is their ability to connect us with great thinkers.
Coming to think of it we see that this is true. If I read a book written by an author in a far away country, I will be able to have a glimpse of his thought processes. Thus, I can learn a thing or two from the writer and connect to him even though I am not close to him physically.

How were the rights of Jews living in German-occupied countries limited by the Nazis?
Answer:
Between 1933 and 1939, Jews in Germany progressively were subjected to economic boycott; the loss of civil rights, citizenship, and jobs; incarceration in concentration camps; and random violence.
Forcibly segregated from German society, some Jews turned to and expanded their own institutions and social organizations, but many chose to flee Germany. At first, the German government encouraged Jews to emigrate and placed few restrictions on what possessions they could take. Gradually, however, the Nazis sought to deprive Jews fleeing Germany of their property by levying an increasingly heavy emigration tax and by restricting the amount of money that could be transferred abroad from German banks.
By March 1938, Germany had annexed Austria (Anschluss) incorporating it into the German Reich. Nazi treatment of Jews in Austria immediately following the Anschluss was particularly brutal, and an office soon was established to facilitate the swift emigration of Austria's Jews.
Following Kristallnacht ("Night of Broken Glass"), the state-organized pogrom of November 9-11, 1938, the German government confiscated most of the remaining Jewish-owned property and entirely excluded Jews from the German economy. Emigration increased dramatically as most Jews decided that there was no longer a future for them in Germany; thus, individuals and entire families became refugees.
In 1933, close to 600,000 Jews were living in Germany and 185,000 were in Austria. By 1940, close to half of these Jews had fled to other countries. More than 100,000 German-Jewish émigrés traveled to western European countries, especially France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Approximately 8,000 entered Switzerland and 48,000 went to Great Britain and other European countries.
About 90,000 German-Jewish refugees were able to immigrate to the United States and 60,000 to Palestine, which was then under British Mandate. An additional 84,000 German-Jewish refugees immigrated to Central and South America, and because the Japanese-controlled city of Shanghai in China did not require visas or certificates of good conduct from Jewish immigrants, 15,000-18,000 Jews found refuge there.
As the number of people fleeing Nazi persecution increased, more and more countries refused to accept refugees, and by 1939 the number of havens available to Jewish refugees dwindled. Switzerland feared that massive numbers of German Jews would cross their border, and the British government continued to restrict Jewish immigration to Palestine. Unfortunately, by 1940, emigration from Nazi Germany became virtually impossible, and in October 1941 it was officially forbidden by the German government.

Explanation:
Science has revolutionized the human existence. Much of the progress that mankind has made in different fields right from the stone age to the modern age is due to the progress made in the field of science. Not only material progress but also the mental outlook of man has been influenced by it. It has made man’s life more comfortable. Agriculture, business, transport, communication and medicine to name a few are all highly indebted to the wonders science has produced.
Electricity is one of the greatest wonders of modern science. It is a source of energy. It can run any type of machinery. With the help of electricity, we can light our rooms run buses and trains, and lift water for irrigation.
The discovery and development of a large number of powerful energy sources coal, petroleum, natural gas, electricity, etc. have facilitated the growth of fast modes of transport an communication, which in turn have changed the world into a global village. Science has given man the means of travelling cars, trains, ships, etc. Man has even travelled to the moon. Faster means of transport can be utilized for sending food grains to victims of famine or epidemics across the globe, for transporting armed men for fighting in distant places.
Science has benefited agriculture too. The food production levels and quality have improved. Soil analysis, hybrid verities of crops, fertilizers, pesticides, advanced tools and machinery, improved irrigation methods, etc. have all contributed to the increase of the production of crops.
Today we have metrological satellites in outer space sending data and pictures to earth stations helping agriculture scientists find and analyses soil patterns. They also help them trace the progress of rains winds and even locusts that endanger crops. Satellites can even forewarn about natural calamities like hurricanes which cause mass destruction.
Man with the help of science, has been able to increase longevity, arrest the gradual decay of human body and control the spread of lethal diseases by making extraordinary life prolonging drugs and medicines. Diseases like tuberculosis and many kinds of cancer which were considered fatal a few decades ago are no longer incurable.
One of the biggest achievements of science is in the field of entertainment. Leisure management industry, with television shows, music concerts and films, is emerging as emerging as the largest and the most important industry in the twenty first century satellite television has made it possible for millions of people to watch sporting and entertainment events taking place in different parts of the world simultaneously.
Information technology and computer have revolutionized our lifestyle. Automation in banks and railways stations has provided relief to the public and staff alike. Ticketing and reservation have become more efficient and convenient. In medical diagnosis, computers are used to locate and investigate accurately and reservation have become more efficient convenient. In medical diagnosis, computers are used to locate and investigate accurately and precisely any abnormalities or diseases. The internet has some very useful applications in our day to day life. Mobile phones are the outcome of information technology. But at the same time it cannot be denied that the boon in many cases has turned out to be the bane. There are innumerable examples which prove that science a blessing has been turned into a curse.
Sir Alfred Nobel experience with dynamite to clear huge mountains to turn it into productive lands. But modern man uses it to kill his fellow human beings and destroy nature. It is a fact that much of the national income of a developing country is spent on acquiring latest weapons, bombs and missiles. Guns, revolvers, tanks and fighter planners’ explosives nuclear bombs, etc were invented to develop a strong security system to protect the innocent masses, but their misuse is now crushing humanity. Apart from atomic weapons man has also started stockpiling biological and chemical weapons. These weapons are equally dangerous.
Biotechnology is a great boon for fighting disease. But along with medicines lethal biological weapons have also been developed. Germs are deliberately released into the air to spread diseases. Anthrax envelopes are used for spreading terrorism.
Science has two faces good and bad. It depends on us which face we want to see. If we use the gifts of science in a positive manner with positive intention and in positive direction it will benefit the mankind, but if we misuse it, it will prove harmful to all. To save ourselves and the world as a whole from destruction, we should use the gifts of science properly.

What is the Friar pondering at the beginning of scene 3 and how does it contribute to the overall themes/ideas of the play?
Hello. You did not enter the text to which this question is related, which prevents it from being answered. However, I will try to help you in the best possible way.
It is only possible to answer your question by reading the play completely. By doing the reading you will be able to identify the themes that the play presents. These themes are the main subjects covered, that is, they are the subjects that the author wanted to expose during the exhibition of the play. "Romeo and Juliet," for example, portrays themes such as the inevitability of fate and the violence of forbidden love.
In this case, by recognizing the themes presented in the play, you will be able to identify how Friar's behavior, in the play that your question refers to, manages to address these themes. Using "Romeo and Juliet" as another example, we can see that when helping Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence addresses the theme of the inevitability of destiny, as he believes that it is the destiny of young people to be together and that is why he decides to help them.

Teenager's Parent: "I'm so proud of my son!" she said in tears or joy. "Good luck!"
1. Discuss the conflict experienced between Shylock and Antonio. How did this conflict impact the text?
Answer and Explanation:
The conflict between Shylock and Antonio in the Merchant of the Venice(by William Shakespeare) emanates from Antonio's anti-semitic disposition towards Shylock and Shylock's equal hatred for Christians. Shylock is a Jewish money lender(usances as it is called in the text) while Antonio is a Christian. Antonio curses Shylock for being an unbeliever and also a money lender while he also needs to borrow money from him. Shylock, amid a conflict and in his hatred for Antonio's belief, grants Antonio the loan on the condition that a failure to repay would be paid with Antonio's pound of flesh. Shylock berates him for anti-Semitism where he says:
"Signior Antonio, many a time and oft
In the Rialto you have rated me About my moneys and my usances
Still have I borne it with a patient shrug, For sufferance is the badge of all our tribe.
You call me misbeliever, cut-throat dog,
And spit upon my Jewish gaberdine, And all for use of that which is mine own."
The resultant effect of Antonio and Shylock's conflict is a much larger conflict between the Jews and Christians
