How has the geography of the United States influenced our history and culture?

Answers

Answer 1
Geography is the study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere, and the interaction and interrelationship between human beings and physical environment including the distribution of populations and resources and political and economic activities. History is the record of human activities in the bygone days comprising civilizational marches in different periods spent in the lap of time. Geography is primarily spatial and environmental and history is temporal.

A perusal into the world history squarely establishes the fact that history is mostly shaped and enriched by prevalent geographical settings. Geographical attributes such as river, mountains barriers, landforms, climate phenomena are natural foundations upon which the edifices of human history at any time or in any geographical regions are erected. Rivers, known as the cradle of human civilization, have played an enviable role in setting the civilizational wheel on move. The early civilizations that formed along the Nile River in Egypt, the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in the Middle East, the Yangtze River in China, or the Ganges River of India provide the rudimentary structure to human history. Each development had a lasting influence on history. Considering the impregnable nature in the early period, big rivers provided many advantages like constant supply of clean, fresh water for humans, their crops and animals, easy means of transportation and exploration, protection against invasion, food etc. Rivers allowed the Vikings to raid far into inland Europe, and the Mississippi River made it far easier for Europeans to explore North America.

Geographical features like mountains and plains have had equally profound impact on human history. Mountains invariably influence the history of many countries. In the past, these lofty physical features perennially guarded against foreign invasions and restricted movement of settlers, traders and travellers at various times. Mountains and mountain passes have had historic effects because of their military significance. The three hundred Spartan soldiers who held off Xerxes and his thousands of Persian warriors at the pass at Thermopylae saved ancient Greece from being conquered by the Persian Empire. The defense of the Iron Gap, a pass through the Carpathian Mountains, kept the nomadic hordes of Huns from capturing parts of Europe and the the Kesselring Line in Italy's northern Alps temporarily fended off Allied troops from entering Germany at the end of World War II. The invincible northern mountains mostly restricted the number of invaders from Central Asia and Europe though some dared to reach Indian subcontinent through dangerous passes. Even large flat plains have important impact on the lifestyle and history of their inhabitants as in case of the tribes of the Great Plains of North America, the Tartars of the Siberian Plain and the Tuaregs of the flat sandy plains of North Africa. The vast expanse and domestication of horses have greatly influenced the indigenous culture and history of these areas.

The climate aspect of geography also largely influences the history and its characteristics. The combination of weather and land features, in which civilization lives, is especially powerful catalyst of history of a region. The major cities of North Africa all lie to the north of the Atlas Mountains, an area of reliable rainfall. The area to the south of the mountains is home to the desert tribes and a completely different history and lifestyle.

The temperate climate, limited space, proximity to sea that made them sea-faring and lack of adequate natural resources perhaps made most of European nation states colonialise almost the whole of the world to satiate their economic and political passions. It redefined the human history and devoured a major chunk of medieval and modern history of mankind. Or else, history would have taken a different course. Geography, therefore, is the steering force that moves history rolling and history stands a mute traveller on the varied terrain of geography.

Answers

Answer:

Donkey

Explanation:

The origins of the Democratic donkey can be traced to the 1828 presidential campaign of Andrew Jackson. During that race, opponents of Jackson called him a jackbutt. However, rather than rejecting the label, Jackson, a hero of the War of 1812 who later served in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, was amused by it and included an image of the animal in his campaign posters. Jackson went on to defeat incumbent John Quincy Adams and serve as America’s first Democratic president. In the 1870s, influential political cartoonist Thomas Nast helped popularize the donkey as a symbol for the entire Democratic Party.

President Woodrow Wilson of the United States Prime Minister Orlando of Italy Prime Minister David Lloyd George of Britain Prime Minister Clemenceau of France money to rebuild his country arrowRight punishment for Germany arrowRight lasting peace and justice arrowRight territories promised earlier to his country

Answers

Answer:

The different leaders at the Paris Peace Conference after the first World War each had different goals based on how their countries fared in the war and their ideas for the future.

President Woodrow Wilson of the United States ⇒  lasting peace and justice

President Wilson wanted lasting peace and justice after the war which led him to propose his famous ''14 points''.

Prime Minister Orlando of Italy ⇒  territories promised earlier to his country.

Italy had already been on the side of Germany and Austria-Hungary but were tempted to the allied side by promises of land and so the Prime minister wanted that land.

Prime Minister David Lloyd George of Britain ⇒ punishment for Germany

The British did not suffer much territorial devastation during the war but did lose a lot of men. Prime minister George therefore wanted Germany punished for this.

Prime Minister Clemenceau of France ⇒ money to rebuild his country

Prime minister Clemenceau wanted to punish Germany as well but his immediate concern was to source money to rebuild France which had been devastated the most in the war as the entirety of it in the west had been fought on French soil.

The popular appeal of Buddhism today is one of “coolness”,”tolerance”, and non-buddhadissention. Some even say that Buddhist teachings and Christianity are compatible, and that one can be a Christian and at the same time adopt Buddhist teachings.

The truth is, although one can find many truths in Buddhist teachings,Buddhism is in many points incompatible with Christianity.  Upon examination of fundamental Buddhist and Christian beliefs, it quickly becomes obvious that there is a clear contrast between the teachings of Buddhism and those of Christianity. Although you may hear some Buddhists claim that “we believe the same things; there are many paths to God”, many fundamental Buddhist teachings are in fact diametrically opposed to those of the Biblical Christianity

Buddhist's argument about Continuous Cycle of death and rebirth could be explained by the context on which this philosophy stands.

Some parties aim to limit international commerce in order to shield specific jobs and industries from competition, just as they did during the mercantilist era.

Answers

Answer:

The Solidarity labor union was established in Poland in the 1980s, and it played a key role in the movement for political change in that country.

The union helped to organize protests and strikes that challenged the government's authority and demanded greater political freedom and economic opportunity for Polish workers.

Through these efforts, the Solidarity union gained significant political power and support, which eventually led to the downfall of the communist government in Poland and the establishment of a democratic, capitalist system in the country.

The reasons for the breakdown in détente efforts are:

⇒The US and the Soviet Union understood détente differently.

⇒The US and the Soviet Union had unrealistic expectations.

⇒The US and the Soviet Union returned to competition rather than cooperation.

What is Détente?

Détente is the verbal thawing out of tense relations, particularly ones that are political. Around 1912, when France and Germany attempted but failed to defuse tensions, the term "diplomacy" first appeared.

The phrase is frequently used to describe a time when Cold War geopolitical tensions between the USSR and the US generally eased.

It started in 1969 as a cornerstone of US President Richard Nixon's foreign policy in an effort to prevent nuclear escalation.

The Nixon administration encouraged more communication with the Soviet Union, including summit meetings on a regular basis, discussions about arms control, and other bilateral agreements.

The term "détente" roughly translates to "relaxation of tension" in Russian.

What is Cold War?

Following World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union, along with their respective allies, the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc, experienced a period of geopolitical tension known as the Cold War.

The Truman Doctrine's announcement on March 12, 1947, and the Soviet Union's dissolution on December 26, 1991, are generally regarded as the start and end points of the time period, though historians do not completely agree on these dates.

Although there was no significant direct warfare between the two superpowers during the period known as the cold war, both sponsored significant regional conflicts known as proxy wars.

Hence, option A, D and E are correct.
