He believed he was above his fathers warning and so he flew closer and closer to the sun, leading to another them which is punishment. In the poem Icarus shows his pride by speaking about how he feels being above the people and yet better than the birds. Overall pride is the main theme in this poem, with punishment coming in for a close second
