Political turmoil in Africa has existed for centuries since after the Scramble, attempting to develop a better political system is a good idea but usually falls apart because of ethnic or economic reasons.

Ethnic issues in Africa have also been around but are more prominent now than ever, with multiple genocides occuring within the past couple of decades. Wars have also started over ethnicity in Africa such as I believe in the Congo, do not take my word for it on the region but it is an issue across most of Africa. This is most likely the one needing to be addressed in order to move forward in my own opinion.

Economic is always a problem but if you are not a land-locked African nation, the sea trade and tourism are very wealthy ways to boost your country's economy, though this has not worked for countries like Somalia because of political turmoil.
