Panchito es el narrador de la historia. La trama trata sobre un joven mexicano que creció como trabajador migrante y que contó historias sobre su infancia. Al joven le gustaba coleccionar centavos de Estados Unidos de diferentes años. El circuito se refiere al viaje que Panchito y su familia hicieron desde Santa Marta a Fresco a Corcoran en diferentes épocas del año para recolectar cosechas. Luego viajaron por California como trabajadores migrantes recogiendo algodón, lechuga, fresas y uvas. Panchito dice que su mejor amigo en la escuela es el Sr. Lema porque lo está ayudando a aprender inglés.
