Answers

Answer 1

To select the best investment proposal, you can use three criteria: the payback period, the accounting rate of return on initial investment, and the net present value. Let's go through each criterion and explain how to use them. Payback Period The payback period measures the time it takes to recover the initial investment.

In this example, the payback period is 4 years. If there are multiple investment proposals, compare their payback periods and select the one with the shortest period. Accounting Rate of Return on Initial Investment: The accounting rate of return measures the profitability of an investment. It is calculated by dividing the average annual profit by the initial investment. The higher the accounting rate of return, the better. Here's an example: Average Annual Profit: $3,000 Initial Investment: $15,000

In this example, the accounting rate of return is 20%. Compare the accounting rates of return for different proposals and select the one with the highest rate. Net Present Value (NPV) The net present value takes into account the time value of money and measures the profitability of an investment in today's dollars. A positive NPV indicates that the investment is profitable, while a negative NPV suggests that the investment may not be worthwhile. To calculate the NPV, subtract the initial investment from the present value of the cash inflows. Remember to consider all three criteria when selecting the best investment proposal.

a developer owned a 30-acre tract of farmland. as required by law, the developer filed a plat with the county planning board, but did not record it.

Answers

Filing a plat with the county planning board, as required by law, is an important step for a developer when it comes to documenting and obtaining approval for the subdivision of land. However, it's worth noting that failing to record the plat could have certain implications.

Recording a plat refers to the act of officially documenting the plat with the appropriate government office, typically the county recorder's office or registrar of deeds. The purpose of recording is to establish a public record of the plat, providing notice to interested parties and ensuring the legal validity and enforceability of the subdivision.

By not recording the plat, the developer may encounter several potential issues:

Lack of Legal Recognition: Without recording the plat, the subdivision of the farmland may not be legally recognized. This means that the developer's intended division of the 30-acre tract into smaller lots or parcels may not have legal standing or be considered valid.

Inability to Transfer Titles: Failure to record the plat may hinder the developer's ability to transfer titles or ownership of the subdivided lots. When a property is not recorded, it may create difficulties in establishing clear ownership rights and transferring those rights to subsequent buyers or owners.

Lack of Notice to Third Parties: Recording the plat serves as public notice of the subdivision. It allows interested parties, such as potential buyers, lenders, or neighboring property owners, to be aware of the division of the land. Not recording the plat could result in limited or no notice to these parties, potentially leading to disputes, confusion, or challenges related to the subdivision.

Legal and Financial Consequences: The failure to record the plat may have legal and financial consequences for the developer. It could result in violations of local regulations or laws, which may lead to penalties, fines, or legal actions. Additionally, it may impact the marketability and value of the subdivided lots, as potential buyers or investors may be hesitant to engage in transactions involving unrecorded properties.

It's important for developers to understand and comply with the legal requirements for subdividing land, which typically include both filing the plat with the planning board and recording it with the appropriate government office. By following the necessary steps, developers can ensure the legal validity, enforceability, and marketability of the subdivided properties.

The break-even point in number of customers required to ensure that the total costs equal the total revenue is 20,917.87.

What is the break-even point?

The break-even point is the sales level (in units or dollars) that ensure that the total revenue equals the total costs (fixed and variable).

The break-even point can be computed by dividing the fixed costs by the contribution margin per unit or ratio.

Average sales price per unit = $17.24

Variable cost per unit = $6.96

Contribution margin per unit = $10.28 ($17.24 - $6.96)

Fixed costs = $215,035.70

Where do the 24,000,000 and 25,800,000 come from in part B?
Saint Leo University (SLU), a British company, is considering establishing an operation in the United States to assemble and distribute smart speakers. The initial investment is estimated to be 25,000,000 British pounds (GBP), which is equivalent to 30,000,000 U.S. dollars (USD) at the current exchange rate. Given the current corporate income tax rate in the United States, SLU estimates that the total after-tax annual cash flow in each of the three years of the investment’s life would be US$10,000,000, US$12,000,000, and US$15,000,000, respectively. However, the U.S. national legislature is considering a reduction in the corporate income tax rate that would go into effect in the second year of the investment’s life and would result in the following total annual cash flows: US$10,000,000 in year 1, US$14,000,000 in year 2, and US$18,000,000 in year 3. SLU estimates the probability of the tax rate reduction occurring at 50 percent. SLU uses a discount rate of 12 percent in evaluating potential capital investments. Present value factors at 12 percent are as follows: period PV factor 1 .893 2 .797 3 .712 The U.S. operation will distribute 100 percent of its after-tax annual cash flow to SLU as a dividend at the end of each year. The terminal value of the investment at the end of three years is estimated to be US$25,000,000. The U.S. withholding tax on dividends is 5 percent; repatriation of the investment’s terminal value will not be subject to U.S. withholding tax. Neither the dividends nor the terminal value received from the U.S. investment will be subject to British income tax. Exchange rates between the GBP and USD are forecasted as follows: Year 1 GBP .74 = USD 1.00 Year 2 GBP .70 = USD 1.00 Year 3 GBP .60= USD 1.00 Question 1. Determine the expected net present value of the potential U.S. investment from a project perspective. 2. Determine the expected net present value of the potential U.S. investment from a parent company perspective. Where do the 24,000,000 and 25,800,000 come from in part B? Please provide the details of the work. Thank you in advance!

Answers

In the parent company perspective, the expected net present value of the potential US investment is $2,538,160 and the terminal value at the end of three years is $27,025,530.

Therefore, the 24,000,000 and 25,800,000 are the present values of the after-tax annual cash flows of the project and terminal value, respectively.

The annual cash flows are discounted at a rate of 12 percent, and the present value factors are as follows:

Period 1 PV factor 0.893Period 2 PV factor 0.797Period 3 PV factor 0.712NPV of Year 1 = $10,000,000 x .893 = $8,930,000NPV of Year 2 = $14,000,000 x .797 = $11,158,000NPV of Year 3 = $18,000,000 x .712 = $12,816,000

NPV of Terminal Value = $25,000,000 x .712 = $17,800,000

Therefore, the expected net present value of the potential U.S. investment from a project perspective is $50,704,000.

NPV = -$25,000,000 + $8,930,000 + $11,158,000 + $12,816,000 + $17,800,000NPV = $25,704,000

The expected net present value of the potential U.S. investment from a parent company perspective is determined by adding the expected net present value of the project and the expected net present value of the terminal value minus the taxes paid on the dividends.

This is expressed as:

NPV = -$30,000,000 + $2,538,160 + $27,025,530 x (1 - 0.05)

NPV = $2,538,160 + $25,674,253NPV = $28,212,413

This is where the 24,000,000 and 25,800,000 come from in part B.

Vesting usually occurs over a period of time, with employees receiving an agreed-upon number of shares at defined intervals. Once the stock is vested, it becomes unrestricted, and the employee is free to sell or transfer the shares as they wish. The stock never becomes completely worthless because, even if the stock price falls, the employee still owns the shares and can choose to hold onto them or sell them if the price recovers.Restricted stock plans can be beneficial to employees because they provide a form of compensation that can increase in value over time. It can take the shape of short-term and long-term borrowings, credit cards, corporate bonds, and other debt-related forms. Therefore, they are not required to be paid to creditors and are not classified as debt. Borrowing from creditors (borrowing in any form) results in a contractual obligation that must be repaid with a specified interest rate, whereas deferred tax liabilities are tax expenses that arise due to differences between tax and accounting rules in the company's financial statements. However, the brand name does not show up in any recall checks when the marketers ask consumers to come up with urban-themed apparel brand names. Rebecca, the Brand manager, is very surprised by this finding and thinks that the research is flawed. "How can a consumer express satisfaction with a brand, and yet not recall the brand name when asked?" she asks. You, the Consumer Insights manager, is nonplussed. You suggest that it is not at all surprising and the research is not flawed. This is because you know that consumers do not store brand information in long-term memory, unless spreading activation takes place. Which of the following are not factors that can drive spreading activation to strengthen long-term memory?

Answers

Spreading activation is the process that takes place in the brain when the recall of information occurs. It is not at all surprising that consumers might express satisfaction with a brand, and yet not recall the brand name when asked.

Consumers do not store brand information in long-term memory unless the activation process takes place.

Factors that can drive spreading activation to strengthen long-term memory are as follows:

Enhanced emotion: This is the most important factor that can drive spreading activation to strengthen long-term memory. The enhanced emotion can be positive or negative depending on the situation.

Importance: The information that is considered important is easily remembered by the brain. Therefore, the importance of the brand can also drive the activation process to strengthen long-term memory.

Emphasis: This refers to the repetition of the information. The more information is repeated, the more the brain is inclined to remember it.

Significance: This refers to the information that is of great interest to the individual. The brain is more likely to remember information that is of great significance.

At least two ways in which Americans can become involved
At least two reasons why voters must be educated on the issues and candidates

Answers

Finally, an educated voter is less likely to be swayed by misinformation or propaganda, which can have dangerous consequences for society.

1. As one of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention, standing before Congress in the 21st century, I would explain that the issue of slavery was incredibly divisive and polarizing. The South was heavily invested in the institution of slavery, and any attempt to abolish it would lead to their opposition and the ultimate failure of the document's passage. Additionally, the framers of the Constitution wanted to ensure that the document would last and provide a framework for government for centuries to come. If they had included a stance on slavery, it would have alienated the southern states and created a rift that could not be reconciled. By remaining neutral on the issue, the framers were able to secure passage of the Constitution and the establishment of a new government.
One concession that we did achieve was the creation of a government that would be capable of making changes and adaptations as society changed. The framers of the Constitution created a document that could be amended over time, ensuring that it could keep pace with societal changes and allow for the growth of democracy in America.
2. In a democratic society, it is of crucial importance for voters to make informed decisions and stay involved because they are the ones who ultimately have the power to shape the government and society. There are several ways in which Americans can become involved, including voting in elections, contacting elected officials, participating in protests and demonstrations, and joining political organizations. It is essential that voters be educated on the issues and candidates for several reasons. First, an educated voter is better equipped to make decisions that align with their values and interests. Second, an informed electorate creates a more robust and vibrant democracy. When voters are engaged and informed, they can hold their elected officials accountable and ensure that the government is working for the people.

Life and time of an 18th-century orchestra musician explain how
and why these components were used -500 words summary

Answers

Life and time of an 18th-century orchestra musician was very different from the life of a musician of today.

This is mainly because the music industry was quite different from what it is today.

The life of an orchestra musician was quite different from that of a modern musician.

Here's an explanation of how and why these components were used:

Music was mainly composed in the 18th century for a small ensemble that was meant to be performed in small halls and homes.

Orchestra musicians were not like modern musicians who had to learn several types of music, the orchestral music was composed to be performed in one type of instrument.

This means that most orchestral musicians had to learn only one instrument.

The instruments that were mainly used included violins, cellos, basses, horns, and flutes.

They were also required to master sight-reading, which was the ability to read music quickly.

This was quite important since orchestral musicians could be given any piece of music to play at a moment's notice.

They were also required to be in tune with the rest of the orchestra, meaning they had to be well-coordinated with the rest of the group.

Orchestral musicians were required to maintain an excellent sense of timing.

They had to be able to keep time with the rest of the group so that the music would not be ruined.

They were also required to be able to play music with a great degree of accuracy.

The orchestra musicians were also required to be able to read music quickly, which was a requirement for playing in an orchestra.

What is and why is historic capitalistic economic theory under
examination according to the authors and other economists? What is
the basis for such criticism?

Answers

Historic capitalistic economic theory is under examination by authors and other economists.

The basis for such criticism is rooted in a variety of economic, social, and political problems.

The historic capitalistic economic theory, also known as laissez-faire capitalism, suggests that free-market forces should be left alone to allocate resources and create an efficient economy.

It assumes that individuals are rational and will work for their own benefit,

resulting in a society that is prosperous and efficient.

However, there is a growing body of criticism of this theory.

The first critique of laissez-faire capitalism is that it does not take into account the externalities.

These are the unintended consequences that occur when an economic activity affects people who are not involved in the transaction.

For example, pollution from factories could negatively impact public health and the environment,

which is not reflected in the cost of production.

The second criticism of capitalism is that it can lead to inequality.

The theory suggests that the market will naturally allocate resources efficiently, but this ignores the reality that some people are born into disadvantaged situations.

Without intervention, these people may never have the opportunity to climb the social ladder, leading to a widening gap between the rich and poor.

Identify and discuss how the financing of the goods and services become critical in the chain of distribution. How would effectiveness and efficiency be inculcated in the chain of distribution and what are the impediments in such a system?

Answers

Financing of goods and services is critical in the distribution chain as it allows the chain to function and brings it all together. When there is no money, goods and services cannot move. Financing also enables producers to supply goods and services to wholesalers and distributors, which then enables the goods and services to be moved from the producer to the end consumer.

Effectiveness and efficiency can be inculcated in the distribution chain through various ways such as;1. Proper planning - this involves ensuring that the required resources such as transportation, warehouses, and personnel are available.2. Effective communication - the distribution chain involves several players.

It is therefore crucial that they communicate with each other effectively.3. Monitoring and Evaluation - Monitoring and evaluating the performance of the distribution chain helps identify areas that need improvement and also prevents challenges before they happen.

However, there are several impediments to an effective and efficient distribution chain. Some of these challenges include;1. Financial constraints - Distributors may lack enough funds to finance the distribution process.

2. Poor infrastructure - Lack of proper infrastructure like poor roads, electricity, and warehouses can hinder the movement of goods and services.3. Political instability - Political instability may disrupt the chain of distribution.

False. In the context of his needs-hierarchy theory, Maslow did not propose a declining percentage of satisfaction for each need.

Maslow's hierarchy of needs suggests that individuals have a series of needs arranged in a hierarchical order, with basic physiological needs at the bottom and higher-level needs such as self-actualization at the top. According to Maslow, individuals must satisfy lower-level needs before they can progress to higher-level needs. Once a lower-level need is reasonably satisfied, it no longer serves as a primary motivator, and individuals can focus on pursuing higher-level needs. Decision Point: Choosing a Source for the New Organic Ingredient Now that you've settled on the preferred ingredient, the brand manager needs you to find a source for it. "We can buy organic quinoa from several sources. I would like you to evaluate these sources and make a recommendation on the best one that both fits with our LOHAS target market and will ensure our competitiveness in the marketplace." Which of the following options is the best choice for Healthy O's? Organic quinoa grown in Peru: This is a more established growing area with a steady and consistent supply. Organic quinoa grown in Bolivia: This is a more established growing area with a steady and consistent supply, and it offers an option to purchase from fair trade growers through a Bolivian co-op. Organic quinoa grown in the USA: This is a new growing area for organic quinoa, and supply can be sporadic. The growers assure you that they can also supply nonorganic quinoa if needed so that supply will not be interrupted.

Answers

The best choice for Healthy O's organic quinoa source would be organic quinoa grown in Peru due to its established growing area, steady and consistent supply, and its ability to meet the LOHAS target market's preferences.

In evaluating the options for sourcing organic quinoa, it is important to consider factors such as the growing area, supply consistency, and alignment with the LOHAS target market.

The first option, organic quinoa grown in Peru, stands out as a favorable choice. Peru is an established growing area for quinoa, indicating that the farmers have experience and expertise in cultivating this crop. This reliability translates into a steady and consistent supply, reducing the risk of shortages or disruptions in the production of Healthy O's.

Additionally, the brand's emphasis on the LOHAS target market can be met by sourcing from Peru, as the country is known for its commitment to organic farming practices.

While organic quinoa grown in Bolivia is also from an established growing area with a consistent supply, it offers an additional advantage of purchasing from fair trade growers through a Bolivian co-op.

This aligns with the LOHAS target market's preferences for ethical and sustainable sourcing. However, since the question specifically asks for the best choice, Peru's established reputation and consistent supply outweigh the fair trade aspect in this scenario.

Sales Revenue −$80 Dr. Net Investment in the Lease - 5 ales-Type - $80

Answers

The correct answer is: Dr. Lease receivable = $80 and Cr. Inventory = $8B

Explanation:

Given: Perquisites Inc leased two automobiles from Sublime Autos Corp.

The lease requires Perquisites Inc, to make 8 annual payments of $12.5 at the beginning of each year.

The lease does not have any prepayments, lease incentives, or initial direct costs.

The present value of the payments is $80 and the present value of the residual value is $14.

Perquisites Inc, has agreed to guarantee the residual value of the cars.

Sublime Autos Corp valued these cars at $8B in its inventory and it has recently sold similar cars for $92 each

The given lease contract is classified as operating lease because the lease does not transfer ownership to Perquisites Inc and the lease term is less than 75% of the useful life of the asset. Also, the present value of lease payments is less than 90% of the fair value of the leased asset.

Sublime Autos Corp should record the journal entry for initial measurement of the lease on Jan 1. 2020 as follows:

Dr. Lease receivable = $80 and Cr. Inventory = $8B

Reason: Sublime Autos Corp is a lessor and thus the lease receivable account should be debited.

The present value of lease payments is $80.Sublime Autos Corp has valued the cars at $8B in its inventory, and the inventory account should be credited.

Therefore, the journal entry is Dr. Lease receivable = $80 and Cr. Inventory = $8B.

If the reserve ratio is 5 percent, then $2,500 of additional reserves can create up to a. $62,500 of new money. b. $50,000 of new money. c. $45,600 of new money. d. $37,500 of new money.

Answers

To determine the amount of new money that can be created based on the given reserve ratio, we can use the money multiplier formula:

Money Multiplier = 1 / Reserve Ratio In this case, the reserve ratio is 5 percent, which is equivalent to 0.05. Plugging this value into the formula: Money Multiplier = 1 / 0.05 = 20 The money multiplier indicates the amount of new money that can be created with each dollar of additional reserves. Now, to find the amount of new money created with $2,500 of additional reserves, we can multiply the money multiplier by the additional reserves: New Money = Money Multiplier * Additional Reserves New Money = 20 * $2,500 = $50,000 Therefore, the correct answer is b. $50,000 of new money.

Part 1: Any firm’s production function consists of labor and capital inputs. Describe the labor and capital tradeoff in the case of robot workers in restaurants. In this case, how difficult is it to compare the wage rate and labor cost for hiring workers versus the rental rate and cost for hiring robots (units of capital)? Could the firm easily specify its production function in terms of labor and robots (capital)?

Part 2: Describe how customers would likely view a robot versus a worker. Would management view customers and robots the same way as customers view them? Does automating some jobs give workers more or less flexibility and incentives both at this firm and on the job market in general? Describe the cost of monitoring performance. Can positive or negative worker incentives improve worker productivity over technical improvements to robots? How does the mix between capital and labor impact the reliability of service? Is there a maximum, or fixed, level of robots that can be used, especially in the short-run?

Answers

The tradeoff between labor and capital in the case of robot workers in restaurants poses challenges when comparing wage rates and rental costs.

Part 1: When considering the labor and capital tradeoff in the case of robot workers in restaurants, it becomes challenging to compare the wage rate and labor cost for hiring human workers with the rental rate and cost for hiring robots. This is because the wage rate for human workers is typically based on hours worked, while the rental rate for robots is usually based on the time the robots are used.
To specify the production function in terms of labor and robots, the firm would need to determine the appropriate weights for each input. For example, they would need to determine how many hours of labor are equivalent to the use of one robot. This can be a complex task as it requires considering factors such as productivity levels, cost efficiencies, and the specific requirements of the restaurant's operations.
Part 2: Customers are likely to view a robot and a human worker differently. Some customers may appreciate the efficiency and consistency of service provided by robots, while others may prefer the personal interaction and human touch offered by human workers.
Management may view customers and robots differently as well. They may see robots as a cost-effective solution that can increase productivity and reduce labor costs. However, they may also recognize the importance of customer satisfaction and the need to balance automation with human interaction.
Automating some jobs can give workers more flexibility and incentives, as it may free them up to focus on more complex tasks that require human skills. However, it can also lead to job loss and less job security for some workers, especially if their skills become obsolete due to automation.
The cost of monitoring performance can vary depending on the type of work being performed. Monitoring performance for human workers may involve direct supervision and periodic evaluations, while monitoring performance for robots may involve regular maintenance and quality control checks.
Positive or negative worker incentives can improve worker productivity, but the impact may be limited compared to technical improvements to robots. The mix between capital and labor can impact the reliability of service, as too much reliance on robots without human oversight may lead to reduced flexibility in handling unexpected situations.
There is no fixed or maximum level of robots that can be used, especially in the short-run. The optimal mix of labor and capital inputs depends on various factors, including the specific requirements of the restaurant, cost considerations, and customer preferences. It's important for firms to carefully evaluate and adjust the balance between labor and robots based on these factors.
In conclusion, the tradeoff between labor and capital in the case of robot workers in restaurants poses challenges when comparing wage rates and rental costs. Customers and management may have different perspectives on robots versus human workers, and automation can impact worker flexibility and incentives. The cost of monitoring performance can vary, and worker incentives may have limited impact compared to technical improvements to robots. The mix between capital and labor can affect the reliability of service, and there is no fixed maximum level of robot usage.

There is always a desire to have a schedule that is robust. (a) Define a measure for the robustness of a schedule. (b) Motivate your definition with a numerical example.

Answers

(a) Measure for the robustness of a schedule:The schedule's robustness can be measured by the amount of slack included in it. If there is a random perturbation, the schedule's slack allows for minor changes to be made while still being able to adhere to the deadline.

(b) Motivation for definition: Consider the example of a doctor's office, where appointments are scheduled in 15-minute intervals.

The doctor's work is expected to take 10-12 minutes, with the remaining 3-5 minutes serving as a buffer time. This buffer time ensures that if the previous appointment goes over or a patient arrives late, the doctor can still complete the appointment on time without delaying the rest of the day's appointments.

This increases the schedule's robustness, allowing for small random perturbations without disrupting the entire schedule. This will not only help in reducing stress levels but also makes the process more efficient.

In conclusion, the more slack that is included in a schedule, the more robust it is against random perturbations.

The net cash flow will decrease by $70. Thus, the correct option is (a) decrease by 70.

The changes in current assets and current liabilities will result in a change in cash flows. Here, the change in current assets is given as $500 and the change in current liabilities is given as $570.

Now, let us discuss the implications of these changes on cash flows. When the current assets increase, the cash outflow also increases, and vice versa. Similarly, when the current liabilities increase, the cash inflow increases, and vice versa. Hence, to find the net cash flow, we need to determine the difference between the changes in current assets and current liabilities.

We have,Change in CA = $500

Change in Cl = $570

To find the implication on cash flows, we will use the following formula:

Net cash flow = Change in CA - Change in Cl

Substituting the given values in the above formula, we get,

Ramsey (2017) who authors chapter 10 offers several strategies that may be helpful with these presentations including that of using personalized language. With personalized language you kind of artificially create this bond between yourself and the audience by using terms that convey being on the same team or as Ramsey states "using words like "us," "you," and "we" can be a subtle means of getting your audience to pay attention to your speech" (p.6). Ramsey (2017) also asserts that to increase the probability that an audience will listen to you, let alone be persuaded by you, you need to use this personalized language to connect the topic of your presentation directly back to the audience (p.6). In other words, if you can make your topic relevant to your audience, where they have a stake in say a decision or outcome by this presentation or knowledge obtained from this presentation, this is more effective to get the audience to pay attention. You also ask a very important question in saying "am I not using the right words?" You may be but Ramsey seems to get at how we all can benefit from evaluating and reevaluating word choice. Ramsey (2017) explains how important word choice is because it impacts a speech in three ways: 1)whether or not a speech is deemed remarkable or forgettable 2)the audience may not share the same language or definitions/realities 3)this wording impacts communication in that we can be defined by the words we use or don't use (Ramsey 2017, pp.2-3).IN FIVE LINES, I WOULD YOU COMMENT ON THIS? the overall goal of chemotherapy with antimicrobial drugs is to ______.
