Three decades later I was asked to write a creative piece about Automatic for the People, one of my favorite albums, by R.E.M., my favorite band. It was exciting. This particular project--one that commissioned a piece of creative writing for each of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time--had almost no constraints other than a word limit, so I decided to write a story.
