However, educators maintained that MS Skandera had shunned other valid ways to judge teachers. The New Mexico teachers resisted the new plan for evaluation. Educators suggested that MS. Skandera should have given more weight to classroom observations and to stop the idea of starting the assessments gradually. Furthermore, the state rolled out Principals Pursuing Excellence and Teachers Pursuing Excellence programs, with the aim to mentor educators to increase reading and math proficiency rates among the students.
