argumentative about why foot ball players should be paid less

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

one thing professional athletes are known for is a large amount of money they get for playing a sport. While most players do not get paid nearly $350,000 for each basketball game they play, like basketball player Al Horford, a significant amount of athletes from a variety of sports have an annual salary of over million dollars. Although they put in countless hours of work over the years to get to where they are, they do not deserve to be paid millions of dollars to play a sport.

When asked to think of an occupation that deserves to have a high annual salary, firefighters might ring a bell. According to Anastasia, firefighters, while saving people’s lives on a daily basis only have an average wage of $48,000, a fraction of what athletes make. The individuals who have the biggest effect on society in a positive way, such as police officer and teachers, are known to be underpaid, while some athletes who make millions are also said to be "underpaid” because they are compared to athletes who make even more than them. According to Figueroa, most people do whatever they can to stay healthy because an injury can mean losing their job. Athletes, however, still get paid while being injured, and in the case of minor injuries, don’t need to stress about recovery. In some sports, such as the NFL, a team cannot release a player until he is cleared from injury and during that time the team has to pay the player his full salary. Lower salaries could result in more people who work hard for the sport and not for the money to play professional sports. Some players will change teams for an extra million dollars, leaving behind their communities and loyal fans in the process. Lower pay could minimize this issue and make players more loyal to their teams.

According to Anastasia, people may argue that professional sports are a billion dollar industry and that when teams are raking in hundreds of millions of dollars, the players, who are the faces of these teams, deserve a significant portion of this. However, these high salaries also come with a cost. The average ticket price for a football game is over $80, and the average price for an MLB ticket is around $28. To get season tickets for a baseball team, a person would have to pay an average $2,270. These high ticket prices also do not account for the even higher priced concessions. Bottled water costs over $4 at some stadiums and the average price for 16-ounce beer at NFL stadiums is an expensive $7.36. Lowering players salaries could help with these high prices. Even if the lower wages don’t result in lower prices, team owners could use the extra money to give back to the communities that used their own to pay for the stadiums and arenas that teams play out of.

Even though athletes put in a lot of work to get to a professional level, they should not be making millions of dollars. Police officers and firefighters affect society in a positive way and make low wages compared to athletes, who play a game and in some cases have a negative influence on people. Lowering athlete’s salaries could also reduce the cost of going to see them play and buying concessions at games and if the prices don’t change, the money could go to charities. An extra million is enough for some players to switch teams, so lower salaries could make players more loyal to their team and community. Sports should be about the game, not the money.

The facts are these: about four o’clock on Christmas morning, Peterson, a very honest fellow, was coming home from a holiday party. In front of him, he saw a tall man, carrying a white goose over his shoulder. As the man reached the corner of Goodge Street, a group of roughs attacked him. One knocked off his hat. So the man raised his stick to defend himself. But when he swung the stick over his head, he accidentally smashed the shop window behind him."

“Peterson had rushed forward to protect the stranger from his attackers. Do you think the way the book plays out is realistic? Why or why not? Give two specific examples from the book to support your answer. in the lord of the flies chapter 12

Answers

Answer:

Summary

Ralph hides in the jungle and thinks miserably about the chaos that has overrun the island. He thinks about the deaths of Simon and Piggy and realizes that all vestiges of civilization have been stripped from the island. He stumbles across the sow’s head, the Lord of the Flies, now merely a gleaming white skull—as white as the conch shell, he notes. Angry and disgusted, Ralph knocks the skull to the ground and takes the stake it was impaled on to use as a weapon against Jack.

That night, Ralph sneaks down to the camp at the Castle Rock and finds Sam and Eric guarding the entrance. The twins give him food but refuse to join him. They tell him that Jack plans to send the entire tribe after him the next day. Ralph hides in a thicket and falls asleep. In the morning, he hears Jack talking and torturing one of the twins to find out where Ralph is hiding. Several boys try to break into the thicket by rolling a boulder, but the thicket is too dense. A group of boys tries to fight their way into the thicket, but Ralph fends them off. Then Ralph smells smoke and realizes that Jack has set the jungle on fire in order to smoke him out. Ralph abandons his hiding place and fights his way past Jack and a group of his hunters. Chased by a group of body-painted warrior-boys wielding sharp wooden spears, Ralph plunges frantically through the undergrowth, looking for a place to hide. At last, he ends up on the beach, where he collapses in exhaustion, his pursuers close behind. Suddenly, Ralph looks up to see a naval officer standing over him. The officer tells the boy that his ship has come to the island after seeing the blazing fire in the jungle. Jack’s hunters reach the beach and stop in their tracks upon seeing the officer. The officer matter-of-factly assumes the boys are up to, as he puts it, “fun and games.” When he learns what has happened on the island, the officer is reproachful: how could this group of boys, he asks—and English boys at that—have lost all reverence for the rules of civilization in so short a time? For his part, Ralph is overwhelmed by the knowledge that he has been rescued, that he will escape the island after coming so close to a violent death. He begins to sob, as do the other boys. Moved and embarrassed, the naval officer turns his back so that the boys may regain their composure. Analysis After Ralph’s tense, exciting stand against the hunters, the ending of Lord of the Flies is rife with irony. Ralph had thought the signal fire—a symbol of civilization—was the only way to lure rescuers to the island. Ironically, although it is indeed a fire that lures a ship to the island, it is not an ordered, controlled signal fire but rather the haphazard forest fire Jack’s hunters set solely for the purpose of killing Ralph. As we have seen, Ralph has worked tirelessly to retain the structure of civilization and maximize the boys’ chances of being rescued. Now, when all he can do is struggle to stay alive as long as possible, a deus ex machina (an improbable or unexpected device or character that suddenly appears to resolve a situation) appears, at the last possible moment, in the form of the naval officer who brings the boys back to the world of law, order, and society. Golding’s use of irony in the last chapter blurs the boundary between civilization and savagery and implies that the two are more closely connected than the story has illustrated. Ultimately, the boys’ appalling savagery brings about the rescue that their coordinated and purposeful efforts were unable to achieve.Much of the irony at the end of the novel stems from Golding’s portrayal of the naval officer. Although the naval officer saves Ralph, the ending of Lord of the Flies still is not particularly happy, and the moment in which the officer encounters the boys is not one of untainted joy. The officer says that he is unable to understand how upstanding British lads could have acted with such poor form. Ironically, though, this “civilized” officer is himself part of an adult world in which violence and war go hand in hand with civilization and social order. He reacts to the savage children with disgust, yet this disgust is tinged with hypocrisy. Similarly, the children are so shocked by the officer’s presence, and are now psychologically so far removed from his world, that they do not instantly celebrate his arrival. Rather, they stand before him baffled and bewildered. Even Ralph, whose life has literally been saved by the presence of the ship, weeps tears of grief rather than joy. For Ralph, as for the other boys, nothing can ever be as it was before coming to the island of the Lord of the Flies.

Explanation: ''Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of a true, wise friend called Piggy.''

"but the foreman made fun of them." ( Paragraph 10)

Paragraph 13)
D "In 1980, after 15 years of working at PPG, Sherman was
summoned and found himself facing a seven-member termination
committee." ( Paragraph 21)

Answers

Answer:

C. "he was told to take on another ominous job. It was to be done  twice a day, usually after dusk, and always in secret." (  Paragraph 13)

Explanation:

The article "Lee Sherman and the Toxic Louisiana Bayou" tells the story of Lee Sherman and his work with PPG which turned him to be an ardent environmentalist. His work in that factory led him to advocate for safer working conditions and also for the environment as a whole.

The article narrates how Sherman was employed by Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) where he was to work with chemicals harmful not only for humans but also for the environment. But despite all the harmful things, the company knew its dangerous works but had concealed them to the general public. The detail about how he had to dump tar "done twice a day, usually after dusk, and always in secret" shows that PPG knew their chemical dumping could have a negative effect but had decided to do it in secret.

Thus, the correct answer is option C.

The statement that supports the idea of PPG knew their chemical dumping could have negative effects on enviorment is :

Option C :  "He was told to take on another ominous job. It was to be done

twice a day, usually after dusk, and always in secret." ( Paragraph 13)

The article "Lee Sherman and the Toxic Louisiana Bayou" recounts the tale of Lee Sherman and his work with PPG which went him to be an enthusiastic earthy person.

His work in that processing plant drove him to advocate for more secure working conditions and furthermore for the climate in general.   The article describes how Sherman was utilized by Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) where he was to work with synthetic compounds hurtful for people as well as for the climate. In any case, in spite of the multitude of destructive things, the organization realized its hazardous works yet had covered them to the overall population. The insight regarding how he needed to dump tar "done double a day, ordinarily after sunset, and consistently covertly" shows that PPG realized their substance unloading could have an adverse consequence yet had chosen to do it stealthily.

Along these lines, the right answer is choice C.
