50 POINTS!!! HELP. The Iliad and The Odyssey can be said to be part history, part legend, and part myth. In just a few sentences, summarize the two epics, very briefly showing their connection with one another.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

read below

Explanation:

(I never read the Iliad but there's a summary of it at the beginning of most copies of the odyssey) The Iliad takes place over the course of a 10 year war between most of all of Greece, and the city of Troy. The war started because the prince of Troy married a Greek kings daughter who was already spoken for, she became known as Helen of Troy. One of the mighty Greek warriors is called Achilles, he is the protagonist. After a very long and pointless siege of the city, the Greeks destroy some of their own boats to make a large wooden horse. Some Greeks hide inside the horse, and the Trojans bring it inside the gate thinking the war is over, and it is a gift. At night the Greeks jump out and let all of the other Greeks into the city. During the intense fighting Achilles is shot in the heal and dies. The city falls and thousands die, then the Greeks leave. The Odyssey takes place over the next 10 years and follows a different king named Odysseus (or Ulysses depending on what version you read) What should've been a 6 week voyage home turned into a 10 year chaotic adventure bringing his three ships the many different islands, home to giant cyclops, evil witches, ship wrecking tides, etc. Upon Odysseus return home, he finds that his kingdom thinks he is long dead, and his wife is taking on new suitors, but is trying to hold off for as long as possible. She challenges all of the suitors to take her husbands bow and shoot an arrow through the rings of 12 axes. None of the other men were able to even string the Bow, however Odysseus did it with ease, and resumed his place on the throne.

Based on the arguments, scientists have proved this. D. Carrots, being wealthy in vitamin A, help people's eyesight to see in the dark. Scientists have been successful in proving this.

Answers

Answer: Answer choice A

Why: Process of elimination.

Not B, because that would be claiming that eating carrots THAT ARE rich in vitamin A, rather than saying carrots WHICH ARE rich in vitamin A.

Not C, As there is horrible flow in both of the sentences.

Lastly, not D, as the original text didn't day anything about how successful scientists have been in proving this, and to say that would be adding on extra information.

Answer:

B. Carrots are rich in vitamin A, and eating them improves eyesight. Scientists state that eating carrots helps people see clearly in the dark.

Answer:

Initially, the obstacles Gregor faces are largely physical. Your answer could include the following points:

Not used to his insect body, Gregor has a tough time trying to get up from his bed. He tries to go back to sleep and forget what has happened to him, but he can only rock from side to side because of the shape of his back.

He now has wiggly legs turned up toward the ceiling, which he can’t control.

He feels an itch on his stomach and reaches out with one of his legs to scratch the area, but his own belly, now full of white spots, repulses him.

When his mother asks him to open the door, he only manages to twist and rock his body.

When he tries to answer his mother, he realizes his voice has changed. Instead of talking, he can only squeak. Although he thinks he is speaking normally, others are unable to hear him.

He manages to turn sideways and dangle off his bed, but he hurts his back in the process.

When the chief clerk from Gregor’s office comes to ask why he’s late for work, everyone urges Gregor to open the door of his room. He manages to turn the lock with his mouth after a lot of difficulty.

He notices that his legs now ooze a sticky liquid.

Still not used to his new body, Gregor hurts himself while trying to scurry inside his bedroom and gets stuck in the doorway.

In 3–5 complete sentences, thoroughly explain Dr. King's main idea in this section and what specific details develop it. Provide at least two specific examples from the text to support your analysis of the main idea and how it's developed.

Answers

The correct answer to this incomplete question is the following.

The question is incomplete because it doesn't provide the text of reference.

However, we can research some ideas and conclude that the question is referring to the "Letter From Birmingham Jail," written by civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

The main idea of the message is that Luther King questions why the law applies to some and not to all. For instance, here is part of the letter: "I was arrested Friday on a charge of parading without a permit. Now there is nothing wrong with an ordinance which requires a permit for a parade, but when the ordinance is used to preserve segregation and to deny citizens the First Amendment privilege of peaceful assembly and peaceful protest, then it becomes unjust."

We can see how Reverend Luther King questions why the law continues to support segregation acts against African Americans and other minorities.

Furthermore, King continues saying: "I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and willingly accepts the penalty by staying in jail to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is, in reality, expressing the very highest respect for the law."

In this excerpt from his letter, Martin Luther King Jr. affirms that his willingness to stay in jail with no protest at all is a clear sign that he and his movement respect the law.

Answer:

The central idea in this section is to question why the law supports segregation. Dr. King states, " I was arrested Friday on a charge of parading without a permit.". Meanwhile, he also says, "If I lived in a communist country today where certain principles dear to the Christian faith are suppressed, I believe I would openly advocate disobeying these anti-religious laws.".

This was my answer, but please paraphrase and write it in your own words :)

Explanation:

Here is the text for anyone who needs it...

[4] I was arrested Friday on a charge of parading without a permit. Now there is nothing wrong with an ordinance which requires a permit for a parade, but when the ordinance is used to preserve segregation and to deny citizens the First Amendment privilege of peaceful assembly and peaceful protest, then it becomes unjust.

[5] I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and willingly accepts the penalty by staying in jail to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the very highest respect for law.

[6] We can never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was "legal" and everything the Hungarian freedom fighters did in Hungary was "illegal." It was "illegal" to aid and comfort a Jew in Hitler's Germany. But I am sure that, if I had lived in Germany during that time, I would have aided and comforted my Jewish brothers even though it was illegal. If I lived in a communist country today where certain principles dear to the Christian faith are suppressed, I believe I would openly advocate disobeying these anti-religious laws.

By straightening the knees and using the ankle movement freely, the rise of the knees may be lessened several inches. When the pedal is at the highest point, the toe should be raised and the heel lowered. . . . although the right pedal is at the highest point, the knee has made very little impression on the front skirt. The feet should be in line with the machine, turning neither in nor out. The knees must be kept pretty close to the machine and should not move laterally at any part of the circle. Read the following passage from Muir's "Calypso Borealis" and respond to the prompt. [2] The rarest and most beautiful of the flowering plants I discovered on this first grand excursion was Calypso borealis (the Hider of the North). I had been fording streams more and more difficult to cross and wading bogs and swamps that seemed more and more extensive and more difficult to force one's way through. Entering one of these great tamarac and arbor-vitae swamps one morning, holding a general though very crooked course by compass, struggling through tangled drooping branches and over and under broad heaps of fallen trees, I began to fear that I would not be able to reach dry ground before dark, and therefore would have to pass the night in the swamp and began, faint and hungry, to plan a nest of branches on one of the largest trees or windfalls like a monkey's nest, or eagle's, or Indian's in the flooded forests of the Orinoco described by Humboldt. [3] But when the sun was getting low and everything seemed most bewildering and discouraging, I found beautiful Calypso on the mossy bank of a stream, growing not in the ground but on a bed of yellow mosses in which its small white bulb had found a soft nest and from which its one leaf and one flower sprung. The flower was white and made the impression of the utmost simple purity like a snowflower. No other bloom was near it, for the bog a short distance below the surface was still frozen, and the water was ice cold. It seemed the most spiritual of all the flower people I had ever met. I sat down beside it and fairly cried for joy. How do authors communicate their tone in a piece of writing? Identify the tone (or tones) of this passage. Explain how the tone(s) is created, providing at least two examples from the passage and explaining how each contributes specifically to the tone(s) you identified. Your response should be a paragraph of 5–7 sentences.

Answers

Answer:

The tone of this passage is that the author was solemn and distant. Wandering in the forest to find this mysterious flower, and then finally finding it must have been amazing because he states at the end of paragraph 3," It seemed the most spiritual of all the flower people I had ever met. I sat down beside it and fairly cried for joy." He created the feeling of finally finding what you lost by saying that he cried for joy. Wanting to find something that seemed impossible, then finding it must have been a truly joyous feeling. He described the forest by having dropping vines and branches, having the feeling that you might get lost since the sun is going down, and describing finding the flower in all of its glory.
