What impression of the Byzantine court do you receive from Liudprand of Cremona’s account? What is the modern meaning of the word Byzantine? How does this account help explain the modern meaning of the word?

Answers

Answer: Liutprand, also Liudprand, Liuprand, Lioutio, Liucius, Liuzo, and Lioutsios (c. 920 – 972),[1] was a historian, diplomat, and Bishop of Cremona born in what is now northern Italy, whose works are an important source for the politics of the 10th century Byzantine court.

Liutprand was born into a prominent family from Pavia, of Lombard origins, around 920. In 931 he entered service as page to Hugh of Arles, who kept court at Pavia as King of Italy and who married the notorious and powerful Marozia of Rome. Liutprand was educated at the court and became a Deacon at the Cathedral of Pavia. After Hugh died in 947, leaving his son and co-ruler Lothair on the throne as King of Italy, Liutprand became confidential secretary to the actual ruler of Italy, Berengar II, marchese d'Ivrea, for whom he became chancellorOn his return, however, he fell out with Berengar, for which Liutprand avenged himself in his Antapodosis ("retribution"), and attached himself to Berengar's rival, the emperor Otto I, who became King of Italy upon the death of Lothair in 950. With Otto I he returned to Italy in 961 and was invested as Bishop of Cremona the following year. At Otto's court, he met Recemund, a Córdoban ambassador, who convinced him to write a history of his days (the later Antapodosis, which was dedicated to Recemund). Liutprand was often entrusted with important diplomacy, and, in 963, he was sent to Pope John XII at the beginning of the quarrel between the Pope and the Emperor over papal allegiance to Berengar's son, Adelbert. Liutprand attended the Roman conclave of bishops that deposed John XII in 963, and wrote the only connected narrative of the events

Which statement is true about Venetian trade routes?

Venetian trade routes were mostly overland routes through Western Europe.
Venetian trade routes connected the Atlantic Ocean and the Caspian Sea.
Venetian trade routes connected the Atlantic Ocean and the Black Sea.
Venetian trade routes were mostly in the Mediterranean Sea.

Answers

Answer:

Option: Venetian trade routes were mostly in the Mediterranean Sea.

Explanation:

It was during the 9th century when Venice started to become a maritime power by profiting from trading rights. Venice became known for its flourishing trade centres and later with the textile industry as the spice trade prospered. Venice location gave an advantage over other Italian cities to connect with other trading ports. Venice, over the period, developed its trading connection with Southeast Asia, Egypt, Syria, Iran and China for its spices, silk, gems, tea, cotton textiles, grain, sharbat, exotic fruits, etc.

describe the signs to look for if you suspect a friend may be self-harming

Answers

May be acting different more depressed, hiding their arms or legs.

Answer:

Gonna answer this from the perspective of someone who is a former self harmer.

1. Withdrawl from social settings. (I stopped talking to friends / family around the time that my self harm was the worst because I felt like if I did that my secret wouldn't be exposed)

2. Long Pants / Sleeves when its hot out - maybe along with the claim that "Oh I'm always cold." (No. We aren't cold. We're burning up. But we can't risk someone seeing our arms / legs when we've been self harming)

3. More anxiety / depression / anger issues. (These are all heightened while self harming, and sometimes even for awhile after we've stopped.)

4. A change in sleeping / eating habits (I started to sleep and eat less, while also having days where all I did was eat because for the past week I only really had one meal)

This isn't a full list and obviously different signs present in different people. If you suspect a friend is self harming do NOT be confrontational about it. You can bring up the topic in a friendly way and if they deny it to you then don't press on. You can bring it up again, just try to keep it at least a week apart.

It's frustrating to deal with someone who is going through this, I know, but remember that they have feelings as well.

It's best to deal with them as you would a child. Take things slowly and don't get upset or yell when it comes to these topics.

But also - If they do open up to you about their self harm, do as they wish for you to. Don't tell a parent or a counselor even if that seems best because it can also make it worse for them. Respect your friends wishes and don't treat them any different. Just be there for them and support them.

That book was made by Mr. Mark Twain, and he told the truth, mainly. There was things which he stretched, but mainly he told the truth. That is nothing. I never seen anybody but lied one time or another, without it was Aunt Polly, or the widow, or maybe Mary. Aunt Polly--Tom's Aunt Polly, she is--and Mary, and the Widow Douglas is all told about in that book, which is mostly a true book, with some stretchers, as I said before. 2 Now the way that the book winds up is this: Tom and me found the money that the robbers hid in the cave, and it made us rich. We got six thousand dollars apiece--all gold. It was an awful sight of money when it was piled up. Well, Judge Thatcher he took it and put it out at interest, and it fetched us a dollar a day apiece all the year round --more than a body could tell what to do with. The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she would sivilize me; but it was rough living in the house all the time, considering how dismal regular and decent the widow was in all her ways; and so when I couldn't stand it no longer I lit out. I got into my old rags and my sugar-hogshead again, and was free and satisfied. But Tom Sawyer he hunted me up and said he was going to start a band of robbers, and I might join if I would go back to the widow and be respectable. So I went back.
